Sure, there is a huge extended QA and testing processes that should in theory catch any possible bug in the software, not to mention tests done by surgeons and all that, but as I work I keep having this these thoughts inside the back of my mind of "what if a bug gets through and the robot tears someone apart from the inside, killing them horrifically" I wrote a significant part of the software for a major diabetes pump that's currently on the market that has had several recalls over the past few years. I no longer work at this company but since my departure the company's stock has multiplied by around 300%. That's all well and good, but that just supports "I'm not really interested in this anymore," not a situation where you need to formally decide to quit. Why I enjoyed Pokemon originally has deviated significantly. The last year of the anime is the one exception because it has heavily (and I mean heavily) relied on nostalgia and hype building as a source of its quality. Aim to be a Pokemon Master is in the style of the "old" Pokemon anime (If you don't know, the companions for this series are ~~Brock and Misty~~, and Ash uses a very diverse distribution of his Pokemon). I played SwSh for around 4 months and then it sunk into that cycle of "Bank/Home/whatever gets unlocked and all of the "super fans" go rabid and it's not fun anymore" that has been happening for the past decade. PLA was a direction that I was not at all interested in, and Gen 9 furthered that direction. TPCI's current product lineup and their desire to create and push outright dystopian spyware like Pokemon Sleep just further pushes me away. 2020 was a huge year for Pokemon for me because of all of the old beta / source code leaks that happened. It made me realize what I liked about old Pokemon and new Pokemon does not have it. And then with respect to Game Freak, with Masuda close to retirement and Ohmori being the series lead mixed with games journalism wanting things I want (see the post I just made about JRPG and FFXVI) I just don't see the point anymore. There's no reason to waste cycles thinking about something that I'm not the target for anymore. Drifting away because it's no longer fun? Sure. But not formally saying "I have decided to quit this" (again, unless you're trying to break an addiction or similarly recognizing the harm of continuing to enjoy it). It has been a long time coming. In the last year (since BDSP) I've seem many bad decisions made by TPCI that I don't agree with, and I have greatly enjoyed the final arc of the anime (basically everything starting with Masters 8 through Aim to be a Pokemon Master). They are creating a very convenient stopping point as someone who originally got into Pokemon in 1999. I also don't play video games anymore (apart from live service games I've played for 10+ years already) and don't see myself as a demographic that Nintendo wants to reach anymore. FWIW, Aim to be a Pokemon Master is my favorite anime of this season, assuming the next two episodes stay consistent with the pacing the series has seen so far it will be the perfect ending for me. The only thing that will be left untold is where the remaining source code is from the 2020 Gigaleak and if it still exists (mainly the original Red/Green source code if it exists), but it seems like people largely do not care about that stuff anymore, and the majority of the fanbase is more interested in shiny collecting, fan mods and Pokemon GO style games which I am just not interested in. I could go into detail, but I doubt that many people would care. But added something to the fights.
