You would be overthinking it. Yes, it could be simple selfishness for some, but the reality is a lot of people have too much going on in their own lives, so theyre not focused on other peoples problems. Theyre not going to hurt you and they wont stand in your way. But if youre expecting them to be your shield, you might want to consider why you felt entitled to expect that.

Keep in mind that I, personally, have stood up for tans persons on several occasions in my own community, but I understand if someone else doesnt feel obliged or safe enough to do the same.

Who said anything about being a shield?

The question is if they CARE.

If I asked someone if they CARE about a genocide in Africa, they're not going to be a shield. They don't even live in Africa. But if they're human, they should at least care.

Why assume hate, though?

Maybe the voters are indifferent.

If someone says, "I don't care if trans people have healthcare or not" it translates to "I don't care if they live or die".
Yes, they're indifferent and may not actively hate.
But it's a hateful indifference.

And even if they're trolling, their actions are harmful because people who really do actively hate trans people are going to see that and think it's more of a mainstream opinion.

Just look what happened with Tyra Hunter. She was in a traffic accident and the firemen tried to save her when they discovered that she had a penis. So they started to laugh.
Then they shouted to the police, pointed at her and said He got a penis!. And they laughed together.
Bystanders begged them to help her instead of laughing, but they kept laughing.
Ambulance came, picked her up and left her at a hospital. The doctors discovered that she got a penis, put her in a room alone and left her to die.
Obama didnt create that law for some good points, it was created because it is needed.

Sure do love that ignore feature. Not quite sure what that user gets out of trying to invalidate me promoting transgender awareness, but its actually a good example to transphobia.

Hes trying to silence me when Im advocating for transgender people. He might not even consciously realize it.
