Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition (Switch)

Did not expect that game to be 100+ hours, oof. Had a few big issues (pacing, AI/combat balance, a few plot beats) but it also did plenty of things well and I really liked several characters.

Alright so true to this topic title (never mind that it's Leonhart's and this is maybe my second post here) I had actually been playing Xenoblade DE recently and just beat the main story tonight. Did every side quest I could, maxed out party affinity, completely rebuilt Colony 6 - basically did everything except kill the superbosses.

Quick thoughts: pacing was kind of wonky and the first 40 hours or so mostly felt like endless tedious quests, but after Prison Island I thought it picked up well and I ended up enjoying it a good bit. Combat was fine although I mostly stuck to one or two characters and pretty much needed Sharla in my party for every difficult fight since no one else had good enough healing. Plot was very much that of a JRPG, especially when it devolved into Attack And Dethrone God and then the ending was just weird but eh. Also got massive Cold Steel 2 flashbacks during the Dickson fight because I was so overleveled from all the endgame quests. Speaking of, man this game laid its foreshadowing down thick. I was waiting for that heel turn for maybe half the game. Soundtrack was... okay, I guess. I have an attachment to the Main Theme and Unfinished Battle is great but it also only plays LITERALLY ONCE WITH NO LOOP WHAT ARE YOU DOING AUGH. Engage the "Eh"nemy tbqh

Character ranking is probably Dunban > Melia > Riki > Reyn > Shulk > Fiora > Sharla, based on a combination of character and how fun they were to play as (the top two being my go-tos). Really liked heart-to-hearts, especially after playing a lot of JRPGs that are very MC-centric.

Anyway, pretty good game, though I did not expect it to be over 100 hours when I started it! Apparently there's a bonus story to do as well, but that will have to be later.

Oh oh oh. I do wonder if I missed an event somewhere. During the first ending, as it shows all the character cgs from their backstories and stuff, there was one with Emma running from Vita and carrying Celine. I don't think I ever saw that in game. A couple more I think I also saw for the first time during that ending but that one stood out. Was there a cutscene somewhere?

They added graphics for a few characters just to make sure everyone got shown. Jusis, Gaius, Laura and Millium got new ones too.
