I also don't think this is unique to you, nor am I specifically making this about you to target you. What I said generally applies to the average American voter who gets their news from social media and their favorite talking heads. They think they understand basic civics and how the United States Government works..... but then they start talking with idealistic ideas, with idealistic expectations with the current makeup up even just our existing Congress and show no they really don't understand. As they start saying things that sound nice and idealistic......., but in reality and in practice ignores whether you like compromise or not we are unable to bypass the numbers we have to actually pass their idealistic legislation. The 40% of the country you disagree with doesn't just disappear because we dislike their toxic agendas. Just ignoring them doesn't make them go away, and it most certainly doesn't help "staying home" as some argue as their representation grows more powerful.

We legit have some who think the President can make sweeping policy changes with a flick of a pen. Or those who question why Democrats bother compromising with Republicans despite Democrats not having the numbers to pass what they originally wanted.

So yes, many think they understand how the United States Government works, but they really....dont. We have to work with these people if we are going to get anything done. At least until we can vote Republicans out in enough numbers that its impossible for them to obstruct. And we arent at the whims of 1 or 2 flakes like Sinema and Manchin.

And despite the propaganda, the Biden administration has actually passed a lot of good agendas despite the level obstruction he faced.

Which again I need to stress that isn't to say one shouldn't criticize Democrats, or that there isn't room for improvement.... but Crocket was spot on. Too many do not actually comprehend how the United States Government actually works. You can't pass legislation on idealistic dreams alone, and listening to your favorite talking head who perpetuates we can magically ignore our we don't have the numbers. That isn't how the United States Government actually works. Whether you like what we are stuck with or not, we literally have do not have the numbers in government to pass sweeping legislation without obstruction from Republicans.

TLDR: You. Don't. Have. Enough. Power and numbers. In. Government. Yet. This cannot be stressed enough, which only gets worse with the "why vote" purist types who do not understand they play a part in making shit worse. Who also seem to think there will be a promised turnaround after 2024 to reverse stacking damages and even more numbers of Republicans sitting in seats of government. Idealistic dreams isn't going to overcome the numbers needed in government to pass legislation, obstruction free.

That's what this topic is mainly for: to discuss about the importance of sympathizing with both innocent Palestinians and Israelis caught up in this horrid conflict. It's painful to see people who care more about one side act all detached and uncaring towards innocents from the other party.

Honestly, it's not hard to sympathize with innocent Palestinians suffering daily from Israel's constant bombing AND innocent Israelis being used as bargaining chips by Hamas. Why does it have to be a contest over who gets the most amount of sympathy? Social media has only worsened the divide to the point where it's starting to spill in local politics.

China has, of course, denied the incident ever occurred, but some 55 Chinese sailors aboard a submarine designated 093-417 are presumed dead after an accident in the Yellow Sea, off of Chinas Shandong Province. British intelligence reports the submariners died after a catastrophic failure of the vessels oxygen systems on August 21, 2023.

Our understanding is death caused by hypoxia due to a system fault on the submarine. The submarine hit a chain and anchor obstacle used by the Chinese PLA Navy to trap US and allied submarines, the report read. This resulted in systems failures that took six hours to repair and surface the vessel. The onboard oxygen system poisoned the crew after a catastrophic failure.

Since the report is based on intelligence, the United Kingdom has declined to comment on the veracity of the reports, while Beijing maintains the incident is a rumor. If the submarine really did run into its own chain and anchor trap, and its batteries were low, then it's likely the air purifiers and air treatment systems would eventually fail.

While U.S. and UK submarines have devices that can turn carbon dioxide into oxygen, allowing them to remain submerged for long periods of time, not every country has access to the same technology. The chain and anchor is a device intended to trap and destroy enemy vessels under the sea. The idea is simple: a heavy chain of metal balls and other objects (that can be up to several miles long) is attached to two anchors deployed on the seafloor.

The size and weight of the chain can cause heavy damage to a vessels rudder and propeller, delaying the submarine for hours or even days, which as we can see from the PLA Navys alleged incident, can be deadly for the ship and its crew. The submarine may even be dragged to the seafloor with the trap.

These kinds of chain and anchor traps are used to protect strategic or sensitive positions, such as harbors, ports or shipping lanes. The document from British intelligence believes this particular trap was intended to ensnare American or British spy submarines operating off the Chinese coast. Shandong is a Province home to many cities with populations above 9 million, roughly the size of New York City. Qingdao, with a population of 10 million, is the largest city in the province.

While much of the worlds focus has been on Chinese naval operations in the South China Sea, especially the waterways between Taiwan and mainland China, the Yellow Sea is also a strategically important body of water along the Chinese coast. The country shares maritime borders with North Korea, South Korea, and Japan in these waters and its an important site for commercial fishing, oil and gas exploration and commercial trade. The Yellow Sea is also an important supply route between China and Russia, who supplies the Peoples Republic with nuclear material used in creating nuclear warheads.

The loss of 093-417 is a big deal for the PLA Navy. It's one of the more advanced submarines in its fleet, as it runs quieter and carries more advanced weaponry (including anti-ship missiles and new, advanced torpedoes).
