Yeah, it's easily the worst element in Cold Steel. Before it had some use because of Earth Wall which was really good on higher difficulties of Sky and Crossbell. The break quartz in CS3 helps it be a little more useful but not really. Wind is also not super useful outside of the evade quartz to build evade tanks in CS2 and on since there's no real wind mage. Jusis is split stats and also split between wind and space slots.

The games were also released on Vita so that is why they look the way they do.

Cold Steel Quartz is literally just FF7 Materia but everyone gets to have one extra gimmicky quartz.

I agree on some aspects because earth quartz are utterly useless now. Characters with earth slots suffer until break quartz are introduced in CS3. I do like that you don't have to aim to build elements for certain spells now though.

I mean, CS3 was pretty easy but that was more because it was easy rather than because you could delay everything into oblivion, never letting any enemy (until the post-game superbosses) have a single turn, like in CS2 or removing all of the turn delay off of the Rean's spells, meaning that no enemy got to ever take a single turn, like in CS4. Like, you are strong in CS3 but CS2/4 had you playing with some of the strongest characters across all of JRPGs in terms of just how badly they utterly ruined their respective game difficulty-wise. CS3 just doesn't quite hit that level of absolute destruction as at bare minimum you have to consider the boss as an actual thing in the battle.

Rean is busted in CS3 and easily negates bosses since his crafts are super strong in that game and CP regen is absurd from CS3 and on.

What do you mean? Arts are better in Sky 1 and 2 and the Crossbell games. Sky 3 is the one of the few games where crafts can keep up. They need to do a much better job at making crafts useful because outside of Richard in Sky 3, Rean delay tactics in CS1/2 and Rean again in CS3 and 4, crafts don't really ever manage to keep up with arts. Even then arts Rean is stronger than crafts Rean in CS4. Reverie hit crafts really hard again for no reason and arts are just straight up better.

Grinding isn't necessary in any of the games, not even in Hard mode. I've never played above Hard but from my experience, your gear and orbment setups matter WAY more than levels do.

And yes, the CS arc is very slow starting off.

Grinding isn't needed in Nightmare for any of the Trails games that aren't Sky 1 and 2 since they weren't balanced for anything other than normal. Reverie you would have to do some grinding for Abyss though since it's just straight up BS on a fresh file.

There isn't because XSeed was in charge of CS1 and 2 and that wasn't an option they added. It's also why we'll probably never see a re-release of those games on PS5 like CS3 and 4 are getting.

I remember hearing the reason for that is because the JP voice actor for Cold Steel's MC was expensive (maybe not expensive as an actor but expensive for Falcom as a company)

Not sure how true this is, but with the English Dub of Cold Steel allegedly having well over a few thousand more voiced lines than the JP dub, it wouldn't be hard to believe

I think it's more that Rean just has so many lines that having him voice everything would get expensive because the other characters are voiced by pretty high profile people too.

i'll say this much tho keep in mind CS 3 and 4 were published by NIS while 1&2 were xseed so the latter 2 are kinda uh.....sporadic w/ voice acting like scenes having 2 voiced lines rest unvoiced or major NPCs voiced and ur party isn't or repeatedly switching between voice and not... in english anyway

feels like NIS was lazy as hell.. mind i'm aware the original versions of 1&2 had alot less voice acting too especially for rean

NIS was lazy. There's a lot of typos, syntax errors and just plain wrong skill translations that they won't fix. The music in CS3 is also very quiet for some reason. I'm glad they brought the games over since XSeed just gave up but still.

Your efforts continue be awe-inspiring. I like the series, but after chugging through them like this I would definitely need a break. They are just waaay too dense for me to burn through them all.

I believe TC also said he's not doing everything and talking to all the NPCs every time. Most of the density in these games comes from NPC dialogue that changes after every single story beat for extra world building.

CS4 has a few boss fights akin to that. One is Arianrhod and Osborne.

When I was playing Azure I got really annoyed with the interlude chapter. The chapter before had stuff building up and then it's like "Let's go to the beach!"

It doesn't. You get them all through Daydreams and just having characters joining your party. Two are from RP rewards.

Azure is the start of the harem stuff. Lloyd has a giant harem too.

I generally prefer Blackjack given the choice, but the AI with the poker is so bad at it. 9 times out of 10 you'll win if you get anything higher than a pair. And most of the time even if you have a pair you'll still win or at least draw.

Doesn't it scale with difficulty? I've lost plenty of hands because I can't even get a pair or if I just need to win the last hand for the max reward the AI pulls out a flush or something and I just have a pair.

Playing that is so addicting.

Yakuza didn't really do big gaps between games. The biggest time jump was inside Y1 right at the start of the game. Yakuza 5 was 3 years after 4, and 6 is 4 years after 5 if you want to count those though. 0 was released after Y5 with the purpose of being an origin story for Kiryu and Majima.

Because Edward Norton is a huge comic fan and wanted it to be faithful to the comics. Marvel hated how demanding he was about this and got rid of him.

Because Yong Yea did the same exact thing. So people are clowning on him for it on top of just not being a good VA.

There's a longer version that's been posted on reddit a billion times that shows him after getting kicked with a neck brace and his face black and blue saying he's gonna train and get revenge.

3rd is awesome for the world building it provides on so many organizations and characters involved in the story. You're just in a dungeon crawler the whole game but I didn't find it a big deal, personally.

I played the Sky trilogy on Nightmare (PS: Don't do this, the game was not balanced for it). I used a bunch of water and wind, too, just not as much as time. Earth, however, has been my least used sepith the entire series.

I used Earth in the Sky trilogy and the two Crossbell games because Earth Wall was so good. Starting with CS Earth is pretty much useless.

I can't imagine playing Sky on Nightmare and I love hard games. I was pulling my hair out on hard in SC. A lot of the fights are straight up bullshit. I remember there was a hunt quest in Grancel with those 4 red birds I think? They kicked my ass so hard because they got 4 turns right off the bat. I spent an hour resetting before I finally was able to kill them.

That's a surprising balance of sepith. I'm playing CS3 right now (nearly the end) and every game to this point has had the same sepith type being lower than the others. Time. Almost entirely because of Action quartz.

Sky makes you run low on water, wind, earth and time regularly, IIRC. At least I did playing it on hard. Water for better heals, Earth to get Earth Wall, Wind for Aerial or Aero Storm and Time for action quartz.

She's been around for almost 10 years now. They've separated the two so she does her own things and gotten rid of the pheromone thing now, IIRC.

I'm sure they'll do a KH3.5 which includes another movie based on the second season of UX plus whatever Dark Road covered. I assume they'll make KH3 and the rhythm game the playable ones since that's canon for whatever reason.

That also is a big problem I've noticed with the Kingdom Hearts series. The fact that there's so many games spread across multiple platforms and that every game is canon. My brother would complain about it all the time to me.

This hasn't been a thing for 10 years now. All the games had been on one console for 10 years. Then when KH3 came out they released everything again on PS4.

People keep saying this but if you play the games in order they lay every concept out for you right in front of your face. Then everyone is like "but the time travel!" when the game they introduced time travel in explicitly states you can only do it if you follow 3 absolute rules.

Unless I'm wrong, I remember them saying he liked RPGs back then. He was actually pretty excited for Kingdom Hearts 2 from when I remember they reviewed that game.
