Yeah that's mostly the thing about the use of "Taskmaster" that bugs me... they really don't make it feel like they needed the moveset copying, so when that's the only thing the movie version has in common, it feels a bit weird.

Yeah, Taskmaster not being needed definitely rings true when the copy abilities aren't really important in any way either, they're just about adding in a few different flashy moves that viewers can go "oh that's Captain America's thing!"

Like it'd be one thing if they used an actual character like Taskmaster with a personality, but if all they wanted was copy abilities they could've at least had a purpose/use for them but nah.

So they can no longer falsely promise leniency for a confession or claim incriminating evidence exists when it doesn't, etc.

It remains legal for the police to lie in interrogation for those over 18 in Illinois and for everyone in every other state. (New York and Oregon are considering similar legislation for themselves.)

When the actual 2 killers were caught they scattershotted blame to a bunch of other students, Robert Davis was one, a kid they bullied. Police take him in, interrogate him all through the night, lie to him saying they have incriminating evidence that will definitely prove him guilty and the only way they can "help" him is if he "confesses". All while police feed the story to him and constantly have to "correct" him on details he obviously doesn't know.

They even lie to him about being allowed to lie, to convince him they're being serious -_-

A decade later the actual killers (also in jail) admitted they made up their accusation of him which was literally the only "evidence" police had, so Robert Davis filed for clemency which was denied by Virginia's Republican governor at the time who chose not to investigate. Wasn't until Ralph Northam's predecessor got in (northam obv the only name I remember bc blackface scandal) that Davis was freed.

Saw a review that said it would have been better had the villain been another Loki variant, and honestly that's true imo. Like just for this self-contained series, that's the better call. But for the larger MCU, it's got a lot of promise. I wouldn't argue with it being "an advertisement for itself", I just thought it was an entertaining one.

Kang's portrayal was so great that I really just can't agree, plus I think they did well making this Kang feel detached from the variants to come (as he himself wanted to distance himself), particularly by killing him off so he's a closed character with this series, but also with the fact that he wasn't even named as Kang yet which I think works really well.

but hey I also can't really imagine how a Mastermind Loki ending would even play out

Conflicted... part of me really liked a lot of it, but it really does end quite suddenly, leaving you unsure of how things ended up.

But then... that's actually quite normal for your standard TV series planned to continue another season, leaving you hanging with the next season cliffhanger (that more often than not just gets resolved in the first 1-2 episodes of the next season lmao)

Guess I'm just not used to it with MCU, and other series definitely didn't play it out that way but just as your standard MCU teasers of what's next... which is another odd thing Loki opted out of. Hm.

Kang's great tho, really glad with his first appearance here and at the same time with the whole variant business we're allowed a singular Kang target to even kill off, while warning of what's to come. The show definitely makes for a mandatory viewing to get the creation of the multiverse and Kang.

Definitely wasted the character, throwing away any personality just to serve a shoddy helmet reveal for a "twist" that's already rather played out. I've seen people satisfied with it because of Antonia linking back to Natasha personally which I understand, but I don't think Antonia was sufficiently built up on her own right, just as a prop for the development of other characters. She was a pawn to Natasha just as she became a pawn as Taskmaster so the whole reveal left very little impact on me as a viewer and it very much was not worth the cost of making her a mindless robo-slave.

More subjective on this part but I honestly don't like the Antonia reveal because it feels like giving Natasha a shot at redemption for her darkest sin. Like I said, Taskmaster just feels like a prop for others and not his own character.

... honestly gotta be one of my least favourite movies of the MCU (not that I have an active ranking of them yet)

By the time the final sequences of the film came around I was just laughing, but not in a good way. Suspension of belief couldn't cover just how ridiculous that air fight was for me - not that it was even long. I've enjoyed Taskmaster's earlier fights where it was fun recognizing the copied movesets, but by the end she really feels insignificant. To be fair we were laughing even before the air fight, particularly from all the cheesy running-in-front-of-explosion clips, and pretending Yelena had to take down the air transport with a sacrifice fake-out was just silly.

Agreed on Taskmaster feeling like doing Winter Soldier again but much... less. Can't deny I was also getting strong Wolverine Origins Deadpool vibes which I mean well woof... checking twitter now, fun to see I'm definitely not the first to suggest this.

I think it started out alright (after the opening credits scene that is) but around getting the "family" back together I got bored for far too long and yeah I already said how my peace with the climax.
