which is one example of how it's expensive to be poor. when all you can afford are $15 Walmart jeans, and you end up buying a new pair every two months, you spend a lot more money in the long run than someone who can afford that $100 pair that lasts three years.

the same applies to cars. people who can't afford reliable vehicles get stuck with beaters that break down and cause them to miss work.

It seems like one of the first questions people ask each other when getting to know someone is "what do you do for work?". I find this custom a little bizarre because most people I know don't define themselves through their job, it's just something they do to pay the bills because they have to. I learn much more about a person and what makes them tick by asking about their hobbies and interests.

it's also wild to me that not even 24% of Americans know someone who died of covid, but 24% of us think we know someone who died from the vaccine? propaganda is a helluva drug

edit: i looked into this a bit more and found some articles saying upwards of 40% of Americans know someone personally who died of covid. given our 1.3M deaths and ~300M people, that means 40% of us knew someone in the 0.004% of us who died, which seems strange.

If you are setting the flow of traffic youre not slower than it

fair point.

but still consider the situation i outlined above where the far right lane is completely empty, one car is in the middle lane with 30 cars behind it that are going faster, effectively forcing all 30 of those cars into a singular lane on the left since passing on the right is illegal. they could be spread out into two lanes, doubling the throughput of the highway, if the slow car just got over.

admittedly the situation above is more of a problem on open highways than city driving, but i do see it sometimes within the city.

what if there are no oncoming mergers? i understand this mentality when driving through a city where there are frequent merges. it's unsafe to constantly switch from middle to right to middle, and probably leads to more congestion. but on a more open road where there are less frequent oncoming merges, i don't understand folks who just sit in the middle.

folks who support the middle lane for driving/cruising (not passing), how do you feel about situations where someone is going exactly the speed limit in the middle lane, with no cars in the right lane as far as the eye can see. is that acceptable? do you think that everyone on the road going 1mph over the speed limit or more should be squeezed into the only open lane on the left, while the right lane goes largely unused? do you see how this contributes to congestion and how everything would be smoother for everyone else if that one car just got over?

i have seen situations like this numerous times and it's always the fault of the car just sitting in the middle lane

you can wash your wash cloths to keep them clean. unlike a loofah, which just collects bacteria and grime until you throw it away and the plastic sits in a landfill.
