Can I go to someone's bank and deposit money into their account using a Visa debit card?

I need cash but I've only used cards for the past decade or more.

I have PayPal, Chase, Discover, Mastercard, Google Pay, and a PNC bank card.

I don't have a checkbook despite my entire life savings is in a checking account.

I'm somewhat stupid. *lol*

The nearest bank of mine is too far away for travel.

Just looking for a way to give someone money who is old school in their ways.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. :)

Is buying a gift card to a shop they like an option? Is does it need to be cash?

Yes, you could do that, but its probably easier to just visit an ATM, withdraw cash there, and then go to the financial institution and deposit that money into their account you desire.

You can deposit money in someone's account typically if you have their whole account number, or if it's their debit card and you know their pin

Most ATMs take cash deposits now

I need $10k.

ATM daily withdraw limit is just $400 nearby and it costs $5.50 every time I even look at that stupid machine.

It would take three weeks on this.

Perhaps I can do a money order using my bank card somewhere?

Maybe at a gas station?

I live in a very remote area so my options aren't looking all that great.

the bank has never confirmed my identity to make a deposit. i just hand over the money and the deposit slip with the account number.

but if all you need is cash, can't you just use an ATM? or buy something with your debit card and get cash back?

If you have their bank details are you not able to do a wired transfer regardless of what they think? They need to withdraw the money either way.

Another option is you could open an account in their bank, transfer your money to it and then withdraw and deposit when you're in the bank.

Do you have a bank you can travel to that has an account that doesn't have fees for what you want to do? If so open an account there, transfer the money from your account to it and then go to the bank and withdraw. I think that would still be the easiest way.

I dont really understand what the hell youre trying to do. You havent really painted a good picture of what youre trying to accomplish here other than you want $10,000 in cash.

If youre looking to deal with that higher than amount in cash, you really do need to visit a financial institution.

Think I'll try this tomorrow.

There's a Credit Union about a mile down the street from me.

From their website, it looks like I can apply to become a member online.

If it all goes well, I'll transfer the amount from my checking account to them and then withdraw it.

Hopefully that will work. :)

If you're opening an account with the credit union solely to do this, make sure that specific branch actually handles currency transactions at the location.

My local credit union only has two locations that physically deal with cash and neither of them are close to me.

I think an issue with checks is that he needs to bank it in his grandpa's account so it would need to be under his grandpa's name no? As he doesn't have a checkbook of his own to write checks out too.

He should call up and see his options for sure. This stuff can change depending on bank and area.

Checks are not cash.

The gentleman won't accept money orders so I'm not even going to bother asking if a check would be okay.

I'm surprised some people still live in the dark ages like this guy. *lol*

I'm wondering if I could purchase 10 money orders at the post office and make them out to myself then cash them all at the credit union.

Would this work at all?

My last wire transfer charged me a $225 service fee, so doing that would be far less expensive.

No. I promise you you will not be getting 10k in cash the same day (or week) that you open an account with a bank or credit union. Banks have regulations around that and credit unions typically do as well.

And even the post office would probably find it odd if you asked for 10 money orders as well.

Banks don't typically have 10k lying around for any random customer to withdraw on a moments notice. It isn't like the movies. You're better off calling the bank you wanna withdraw it from and ask if they're able to.

I've called my bank twice on this already.

Both times were with foreign speaking agents that were stupid goobers and didn't help at all. :/

I just would like to turn what I have digitally and be able to somehow hold that in my hand.

That online credit union application requires a time stamped selfie, drivers license, scanning their QR code, an agreement for a complete credit history report review, and something something about FBI and a terrorist watch list warning.

Times sure have changed since I last remembered.

Still think I'll do that though and wire money to the newly created account so I can double dip at the ATMs each day.

I've looked online and it seems like there's also a Coinhub and LibertyX Bitcoin ATM tellers in town.

Maybe that's a thing I could try.

I really have no idea what I'm doing though.

I went to public schooling. *lol*

This thread is weird. It almost seems like TC doesn't know how banks work.

TC, if you want to have 10,000 cash in hand you need to have that in an account somewhere. If it's a bank like PNC, and I would guess you have a PNC bank account because you have a PNC bank card, then you can go to any branch and withdraw that cash.

You talked about trying to transfer your money to a new bank and withdraw it from there. That will take a few days for the transfer I would think. If you have your money in an actual bank now you would probably have to sign something from them approving the transfer. So if your money is at PNC you're probably going to have to go to a PNC branch anyways, even if it is too far. Maybe they let you do that online, but I don't know. But you haven't said where your money is.

The last thing is why are you taking out 10,000 cash? I'm assuming to buy something. I'd be worried because anyone who insists on cash like that could be a scam. Cash gives you no protections if the seller of whatever you are buying doesn't hold up his end of the deal.

You said your grandpa will only except cash yet you're trying to deposit the money directly in his bank account yet he won't except a check? This makes no sense.

Log into your banking account online and see if there is an option to "pay a bill". This basically allows the bank to write and mail a check on your behalf to either a company or person. Have your bank send him a check. If he complains tell him to go kick rocks. That's the most straight forward way of getting him the money.
