7 was great Outlast/shooter hybrid. Combat was meh, but story was fantastic and it was positively dripping with atmosphere. The first 2 acts of 8 are decent, after that the gameplay really improves, I was lovin it. Play 8, for sure. Play 7 if you can handle gameplay that takes a back seat to exploration and story.

RE7 had a lot of these elements but it blended them all together. Each section of RE8 feels like a different game, that was developed independently, and you don't know what you're going to get next as you go along. It was a kitchen sink game.

Yeah, really comes together when you go to Mereau, in both gameplay and story. Dimitrescu was RE7-2, Beneviento was Outlast, then it went into basically mixing 4 and 7. The action Mereau and after was very rewarding, imo

I wish they had overly deep and esoteric research and intertextual connecting, but in reality those videos are hours of just summarizing the work itself and the youtuber talking about their personal feelings for it, while occasionally throwing in comments of people from the production team or broad critical & audience reactions. These videos are basically recompiling the original content through the personality and presentation of the youtuber, serving as a less attention-demanding and more (para)social alternative to engaging with the original work.

I think that had a lot to do with the subject matter. I mean what can you say about Skyrim that hasn't been touched on or that would challenge perspective? It's not exactly a complex subject.

That baby monster part... that was pretty scary. I really don't think this is too much like 4. This is far more exploration oriented than 4 and the combat is much easier. The bosses couple have been a breeze. I guess I haven't played the remake, tho.

Village is actually RE4 part 2. It's basically the same game. It has the same mechanics and environments. It's just reskinned.

3rd person vs 1st person is a pretty stark contrast, imo. I like that they brought some of the more standard elements back, but this ain't no RE4, from what I've seen.

7 was fantastic, this is fun, but it ain't no 7. I like that mobs drop loot now, it insensitives combat, and not just running every time. I don't get nearly the same creepy vibe they had in the swamp house. I've also felt lost and not sure what to do a couple times. Last night, I killed the second sister, saw the note about the 5 bells, and shot the one through the skylight. I looked out a couple windows, but didn't see anything. Maybe the 4 bells are the next step, but with the last sister and Lady Dimitrescu chasing me, I had enough for the day.

It says that your ammo and healing are more effective because you give more damage and receive less, not that there is simply more ammo lying around. Need more ammo? Go to the store, you get plenty of credits.

Moreover, it's high time the Difficulty Gatekeepers realize that they are the minority. Like, a tiny minority. "Gamer" isn't some niche anymore like it was in the 90s, damn near every household in the country has a console in it, and casual players massively outgun the Hardcore Elite. Every major publication is going to cater to them because that's where the numbers are. And no amount of Elden Ring anomalies is going to shake that. Want something catered to the "hardcore" crowd, find a YouTuber. Because a small operation is all that can afford to cater to a niche.

Gamers are casual. Time for us to get over it.

And no, saying "I'm not that good" means nothing. The minute you complain about "removing all challenge from a game," you are by default more hardcore than the actual casual crowd.

But I don't like the hardcore crowd. If they wanted to play the game on easy for whatever reason, that's cool. I'm not gate keeping. My only issue is that they suggest that easy is the best way for most people to play.

You underestimate how bad people can be at games even when they enjoy them.

I used to game online when more of my IRL friends did. Always at the bottom of the leader board and making my team/friends angry for sucking. I, in fact, suck at games. If one is less skilled than me or just wants to play on easy, that's cool. I certainly wouldn't suggest easy should be the default experience.

Casual gamers are still gamers. My reflexes and motor skills are crap, but I didn't really need them. Just had to be deliberate. Playing on easy is fine, if that's what you want to do, but I think it's strange we have major influences suggesting you remove any challenge from a game.
