"creatives don't deserve monetary reward for their work" is something piracy advocates would never say out loud because they're so entitled and disillusioned

just know the only thing that enables you is technology that makes it easy to steal and obfuscate the obvious act of theft. you're just riding on the coattails of people that actually pay because very little would actually be produced without that incentive under our system.

the same is true for freely distributed open source projects, even they need donations to continue their hard work.

I can give a pass to classic roms. A classic console and a classic game can pretty big purchases and you can't just go to the stor to grab them, they're old and my not work right -- it's a whole thing.

All of the people you mentioned don't make shit off of sales. It's almost always the company/label that gets the lion's share of the profits.

In fact, there's been MANY cases (especially in the music industry) of creatives themselves releasing their shit for free just to fuck over their employer.

because bob the musician is getting fucked over on universal music group, that doesn't mean sally the musician is getting fucked over by polyvinyl for example.

royalty deals on sales are the whole point of signing a record contract, typically an artist will see between 10-20% of sales.

"they don't get paid anyways" a good way to justify pirating everything though

No they won't unless they're stupid popular. When you sign you usually get an advance which means you're paid upfront and until your royalties exceed your advance you don't get shit from b record sales.

You start getting what your royalties earned in excess of your advance.

Let's say I sign you for $50,000 and you agree to take 10 cents per record sale. You then sell 500,001 records. The label cuts you a check for 10 cents.

Meanwhile your record is on sale for $10. The label only has to sell 5000 to make their money back.
