i can understand why they'd be annoying but they aren't talking out of their ass. somebody brought up how other fighting game communities move onto the most recent game in their respective games but the reason for that is those other games actually try to move forward or innovate. when brawl came out it felt like a giant step backwards (in terms of game mechanics) that the series still hasn't recovered from. movement in melee is tight and fluid and the new games feel clunky in comparison. they're objectively more restricting and it just doesn't feel good to move around in them as a result. there are other issues as well like the watered down edgegame, weaker punishes, slower overall game speed, etc.

also most of the mechanics in melee were intentional. dont know why you'd think otherwise or what specifically you were thinking about.

ive played the game several times and there is absolutely 0 grinding required to get through the game. wouldn't take long to level up if you did decide to grind because metal slimes award absurd amounts of exp.

but yeah just because you can't mash attack throughout every battle doesn't mean you need to gain 5 levels before moving on. it means you should use some of your abilities.

brave new world is easily the best ive played.

i've played crimson echoes, and while playing through a new ct game was great, the game itself is incredibly grindy. enemies in general have way too much hp/resistances and it really drags the experience down. i ended up just opening the game in an editor and editing all enemy stats to more closely resemble triggers.

i haven't played any secret of mana mods but one that looks promising is the gameplay improvement hack. the goal is basically to fix up some issues with the combat. i think the current version includes a block button that lets you evade physical attacks, strong/weak attacks, and lets you assign spells to shortcuts.
