I agree with doing away with participation trophies. I'm curious though why Republicans would be opposed to it.

When you give trophies only to those who have achieved higher results than others, you encourage people to strive harder. Encouraging people to better themselves -- financially, intellectually, etc. -- seems to go against the nature of the Republican party. They want people laying bricks, carrying grocery bags, taking out trash, etc. Those jobs have to be done, and I'm not knocking the people that do them, but Republicans want more people closer to the bottom than to the top.

I would think that participation would be something they would want to encourage. "You're carrying my bags, yes, but you're carrying American bags for an American. And in doing so, you're helping me to keep this country great."

I find that so incredibly bizarre. Why not just use a less attractive person for the model? They'd save money as opposed to using a gorgeous professional model. And what's the objective of this anyway? They're taking actual people that really exist and then implying they represent unrealistic beauty standards by making them uglier in the fictional piece of media they appear in, lmao

One is active and the other is passive. If you hire an average looking person and model the in-game character after them, people will simply think that you've hired a person who isn't particularly attractive. If you hire an attractive person and actively de-sexualize or de-beautify their in-game likeness, people will know that you're making a point to remove titilation as a factor.

In short, it's virtue signaling. How will people know that you've done the right thing if you don't call attention to it?

This isn't a new development. Friends was getting flak for this back when it was in its initial run; even other shows airing at the same time, such as Married With Children and Whose Line Is It Anyway? were taking potshots at them over the cast being entirely white despite the show being set in one of the most diverse cities in America.

Married With Children knew how to be inclusive.

On Friday, a tornado passed through the town north of me. There were damaging winds in my town and even some downed powerlines. My mother, who is out of town this weekend, asked me to stop by her house to see if any damage had been done to her place.

There's some gutter damage and a destroyed fence. Other than that, it seems to be fine. Mercifully, my house was spared from any damage. I am sad though to have gone through April Fool's without internet service. It's the one magical day each year when lying and trolling are acceptable.

(It all honesty, there was about a twenty minute stretch on Friday where I legit thought I might be killed by a tornado.)

It took until the second post for someone to make it about their own need for attention.

It could just be the angle. It looks like she may have a bust, but it's a bit flattened by the angle and the 2D artstyle. All of the characters kinda have a bit of the South Park thing going on where they look like paper cutouts. I'd like a better look at her just to be safe.

My grandmother cannot shake her long-held belief that the Republican party is the party of godliness. Her senses tell her what a skunk of a human being Trump is, yet she earnestly pulls a "God works in mysterious ways" card. We can't see why a horse's ass was made president, but there must be a reason for it.

For the people who want religion as a concept to die off, this is the only thing that gives them even a shred of sympathy from me. The world going atheist wouldn't make us into vegan socialists exploring space and reminding alien cultures how comparatively advanced we are, but I do see how some people could image a world in which Republicanism dies for lack of religious support. In truth, it would likely be replaced with something else. Religion isn't the only source of control or tyranny. But, at present, it is a blindfold which places many good people walking side by side with the scum of the earth.

It's hard to see the family upset but you gotta tune it out and just strive to keep going and keep improving: it's your responsibility as a healthcare worker to learn and improve to help people.

I did a year of 5PM - 8AM shifts as the only doctor in a rural hospital.

Never again. Hats off to anyone who can do that for longer.

Honestly, I don't know how long I'll be here. I don't think I'd want to be on overnight shift for a year or more.

My job is getting the patient's medical history (medications, allergies, etc.). The most direct way, when available, is to go into the patient's room and question them about it. If they're unresponsive or unreliable, then we look up their medical history and any pharmacy they may have filled at.

Trump will likely get a $20,000 fine.

I am kinda hoping that both parties agree to prosecute. By now, DeSantis probably hates Trump as much as Democrats do.

Today was my fourth day of training and my first working in the ER itself. Literally the first patient on our list to interview passed away before we even made it to her room. Her notes showed that several attempts were made to try and save her. COVID was ruled out and, as far as I know, no drugs were involved.

I knew death was inevitable, but that really threw me for a loop. A twenty-year-old complains about chest pains early in the morning and is gone two hours later. I think the mental image of her family out in the hallway is going to be burned into my memory.

I'm sure they have their reasons for why the media was lying about Fox lying or why the person who lied was the one bad apple. Whenever a Democrat gets caught doing something, it doesn't unravel their party. We don't suddenly throw in with the opposition just because one guy is a creep. Why should you expect their point of view to unravel the first time they're challenged on something?

And of course some of them could be reached. If people never changed, death rates would be the only factor in elections.

It's fucked up what the Republican party has become.

I remember when I thought Mitt Romney was the biggest asshole in the party. Now, I'm not even sure if he's in the top five.
