I thought I'd be disappointed to lose my favorite album, but honestly, I'm a bit surprised it lasted as long as it did. Its raw, brutal storytelling is... not the type of thing that I'd expect to play well here, as much as I love it.

I'm not sure I particularly like them in the first place, so I think my desire to hear them is reduced further when they're not relevant, but they just sound wrong to listen to in, say, early spring. Maybe it's because I grew up in a church school and only sung the associated hymns right around Christmas, so they're exclusively associated with the season in my head.

That's impressive! Honestly, I may kinda prefer your version? I think it benefits from only having a piano as an instrument; it makes it feel... "more distinctive" probably isn't the right word, but I don't quite know what word I want. Memorable, maybe? That feels right. The solo piano makes it pop and stand out more in my mind.

That's a mentality I just can't quite wrap my mind around. A song is either something I want to listen to or it isn't and the time of year has no impact on anything; if I want to hear a song, why would I care what time it is? Likewise, if I don't want to hear a song (see: most Christmas songs), how would a certain season make it any more tolerable? It feels like saying "I want to listen to "Rhythm of the Night", but I can see the sun shining through my window right now so I have to wait another eight hours so I'll have the proper context".

I'm sure it's just my mind being broken in a weird way, as it usually is, but I just can't get it. I understand wanting to hear songs during certain emotional moods or states of mind, where the music compliments the way I'm feeling, but outside factors like time feel... outside.

130; I had to watch the first half of Mystery Wrestling to support Mansoor and finishing my Rank the Tracks ranking took longer than anticipated, so I just got one song done in the morning. I was originally hoping to have the first draft done before April 1st, but I don't think that's a viable goal after so many partial days... ah well, it was never a super serious goal anyway.

Also, I apparently dreamed that NBIceman nominated a set of Street Fighter songs. I recall him nominating Indestructible, Ken's Theme from the 3DO version of SSF2T, and two other SF songs but that obviously did not happen in this universe. Probably just as well, I've never quite understood the popularity of the 3DO soundtrack anyway.

I'm surprised anyone else had 21 as low as I did, but it occupies the same space as Disco Volante for me: Something that I enjoyed at the time we covered it, but I really did not want to listen to when trying to organize the album list. I'm not entirely sure why; I have theories for why Disco didn't click the second time around, but my intense dislike of 21 remains unaccounted for.

Charlie Brown Christmas is iconic and unlike anything else from the cycle, so I was expecting it to be towards the middle at least.

It's my favorite game of all time, but I agree with everyone saying that it's not for you if you're not enjoying it by this point. If you're not into the characters, music, style of humor, or gameplay then there's absolutely nothing coming up that's going to change your mind.

...Unless your only complaint about the gameplay was "too easy" in which case, *maybe*, you might tolerate a few boss fights later. But given your opening post, I'd say that's so excessively unlikely as to not be worth consideration.

My top two Madonna songs. Take a Bow is actually one of the first songs I recall hearing on the radio and wanting to track down to listen to--possibly even *the* first--so a lot of nostalgia there as being one of the first songs to really stick out as something I loved. And while "Take a Bow" is one of the perfect songs from my past, Human Nature is the type of song that appeals to me now; the lyrics about not repressing yourself and being completely unapologetic are the type of things that play really well with me right now. [The album also has Secret, which is another really good Madonna single. ...I honestly can't recall any other songs from the album, which is not a good sign as I listened to it not that long ago, but still! Three songs is good!]

"Like a Prayer" doesn't have anything that hits quite the same highs, but thinking on it some more, I would put Act of Contrition in my top ten Madonna songs. It's unique enough that I always make a curious head tilt while listening to it & I think that pushes it ahead of quite a few of her songs in my rankings.

I tried nominating it once before, but I didn't do a great job of selling it--honestly, there was another album by the band that I preferred and I was bitter about feeling forced to nom the popular pick. But now I've come around on this one. It features the perfect blend of David's pop/funk sensibilities & Don's strangeness. Come for two top ten hits (Walk The Dinosaur & Spy In The House Of Love) and stay as they erratically bounce between genres and subjects so wildly that you never know what's going to happen. You want incredibly emotional and moving songs? We've got one! Kinda generic but catchy pop music? You betcha! Frank Sinatra Jr.? Hell yeah, we got Frank Sinatra Jr. for no apparent reason! Experimental nonsense? Short stories? This album has it all. Seriously, if you're tired of albums with "similar songs" and "coherent styles", then join me for an album that very much does not have that problem. Nothing on the album is like anything else, so it should provide a variety of rankings and stand out.

Ties are the laziest--err, easiest--solution. Remove whatever is definitely not going to be eliminated at this point; everything left over is tied & eliminated simultaneously. I wound up with three massive sets of tied songs and it was fine; a 20 way tie here, a 10 way tie there, and bam everything not in the top ten has been eliminated in two quick steps.

(A 40 way tie for first would be unorthodox, but not technically forbidden. You can do whatever you want. Obviously replace made up numbers with however many songs you want, don't go with a 20 way tie unless you want one.).

You also have the ability to retroactively un-eliminate songs. You've done, I've done it. If an elimination turns out to be in error, just... ya know... fix it in post instead of stressing too much.

Things get messier if you refuse to do ties and refuse to retroactively fix things you changed your mind on. In that case, I went with the strategy of "repeatedly listening to every song I didn't want to cut, assigning points each listen, and using each song's average score to determine placement". Made sure the winner was the most consistent song, instead of what I was into at that exact moment... but it's a long process with no real pay off. Possibly fun and rewarding, but long and only fitting when you refuse to go with the tied option.

Nah, I suppose I shouldn't be greedy. Still, if anyone else -does- have a last minute addition, consider things open until we either hit 330 or I get done with my first round of listening.

SPEAKING OF WHICH: 111/326 songs have preliminary scores. I... *may* have started listening to some as soon as the topic opened because I have no patience. </.<

Rankings should start shortly after I take my second trip through the list, as I like giiving the final listen just before actually eliminating something; I'll post periodic updates on progress. Aiming for anywhere from 5 to 10 songs getting scores per day, so still a ways off, but decent progress so far.

I'm pleasantly surprised that one lasted as long as it did. It's the most obscure song I nominated, being an unused song from a very small game jam project, but it was such a delight that I wanted to show it off somewhere.

I actually spent a fair amount of time scanning Bandcamp for recently released soundtracks to try and find something interesting & new to nominate, though Stitch 'n' Scuffle was the only discovery I enjoyed enough to use a nom on.
