The story was absolute garbage, and combat as much as people praise it was also garbage, when compared to 11 which it tried to copy/improve. Vaan mentions his dead brother a total of 2-3 times during the entire storyline, which should have been his driving force for wanting to take revenge against the empire. He chooses to become a pirate for no reason at the end of the game, and Penelo has no place in the story, with Fran even having more backstory than she did. The one time they should have used the Laguna sequence from Final Fantasy 8 was on 12. It could have added so much to the story of Ashe and who she was as a character. Having her run around in the background sabotaging matters of empire to help her regain trust with her people. And then we get to Vayne, who somehow slightly has more backstory going for him than Ardyn from FF15, if that's hard to believe. He shows up just as much as Vaan mentions Reks. It isn't dumb to hate 12. It was poorly made. It was an attempt to drag the tactics universe into the main series when it had no business being there in the first place. Tactics was fine on its own. X is a little overrated but still good and the rest are correctly rated as they are. cuttin_in_farm posted... Its 8. Everyone always says 9 is underrated. And tons of people love 6. The other ones arent really hated, or are disliked for good reason like 12 and 13. 8 is a decent game that gets crapped on because of a fighting system people go out of their way to abuse, and a story that doesnt make sense just like all the other Final Fantasy stories.
