NO FUCKING WAY. ZORO IS THE JAPANESE VOICE?! I can't believe it, I've been playing in English the whole time coz my gf and I are taking turns but we're switching IMMEDIATELY so I can hear Zoro.

Anyway, game is very flawed but I'm having a blast with it. I find the combat to be super rewarding the better I get at it. I went from REALLY struggling with 4-5 opponents to like absolutely slaughtering whole camps of 20+ with the different stances. I can see it getting old eventually but now I'm experimenting with the different ways to perform stealth kills.

Most of the sidequests have been really fulfilling and whoever said they hated Haikus... what? They're awesome!

honestly I think this is more a part of "con-culture" (i.e. conventions) than it is strictly related to the smash community.

anime cons, comic-cons, vg cons are all breeding grounds for predators. you take a traditionally marginalized subgroup of people - many of whom with difficulties in "normal social life," and give them a weekend of free reign where they're guaranteed to be around people with similar interests and it's a recipe for disaster.

I've hung out with a lot of "nerds" in my life - gaming, comics, anime, even creative writers - and the second con-season comes around a switch gets flipped and they become uber aggressive and sexual. the stories I could tell about dragon con parties I went to in my teens.

not defending these people in any way, but trying to argue that there's something poisonous in the smash community is not quite right. It's a larger issue in geek fandom to be honest.

Been going to video game/anime cons for almost a decade now and it's sad to say that as welcoming and fantastic as these communities can be, there is definitely this darker side.

Last year a bunch of bigger name cosplay photographers started getting called out for this stuff. And every few months it seems like a bigger name in the Con Party Scene gets called out for it too.

I wasn't a super big fan of the gameplay from the original but I can definitely understand how people would like it.

Again, it's super jarring for me to see 130 pound Ellie coming into these camps and taking them all out like Venom Snake in MGSV.

They could play the long game with this, and make Abby the final boss of The Last Of Us 3. That would be some straight up Gedo NJPW booking right there.

There's no chance that anyone involved has enough forethought or even the ability to write something like that, but it would make this mess salvageable.

OK - so hear me out. This is just a thought experiment:

What if this game featured "Noel" and "Kelly" instead? I was thinking about Apollo Justice and how 50% of that game's problems get solved immediately if Hobo Nick is a completely new character instead of Phoenix Wright. How much is this game improved if it's set in the same world as TLOU but doesn't feature Joel and Ellie? Obviously this means that Abby's dad isn't the doctor from the first game, but is instead a brand new character. Maybe Noel is a former firefly who killed Abbys dad trying to escape or something, whatever.

Honestly, and I'm mostly interested in Biscuit's take on this - how does this affect your opinion of the game?

I think that this would've been a much better approach, especially if you don't blatantly lie to your fans and tell them that Joel/Ellie are going to be back.

Just means they did something you weren't wanting them to do. Doesn't mean it's bad. Bad writing and "not what I was expecting" are very different things

There's a way to go in a different direction without demeaning or even destroying what people loved about the first game. The writers aren't under any obligation to do what the audience wants, but it looks like they went way out of their way to undermine a lot of what many people enjoyed from the first one.

The DNC and their candidate somehow managed to lose the most winnable election in history four years ago, so I would say nothing is locked in stone.

I will say that a LOT of my right leaning friends who voted for Trump four years ago are saying they no longer can after the pandemic response and this situation.

I am planning to write in Bernie Sanders, but I have a counter going for how many times someone tells me that's just a vote for Trump, and if it gets high enough I may actually still vote for Trump.

One of the best shows ever. It's weird because I often don't like shows that either don't have anything supernatural going on, or aren't comedic. Breaking Bad is as real as it gets and I was still hooked the whole way.
