As for XIV, I should hop on tonight to top off my Wondrous Tails diary from last week. I have the nine duties done, but only claimed seven of the stickers so far so I can try to guarantee at least one line. RNG is never kind, no matter how many second chance points I throw at it. Three lines would be really nice, as then I'd get the mount otherwise available from Faux, which it looks like I'm not doing any more.

I may or may not get on to work on Eureka weapons in Pyros and Hydatos. My Brd is so geared for Eureka, I can probably solo the NMs with it in the event the place is empty; same for WAR. The point is that I should work on this in the next few weeks before 5.35 hits, and Bozja becomes the thing.

Worth noting that if you just wanna do story stuff you don't really need any job points

That's what I've been saying, more or less, but I might as well grab what I can that will help the jobs I'm using while knocking out Merit Points. It's because of this that keeping Naja alive was as easy as it was this last time. I might as well get a couple Gifts and improved abilities rolling, you know? And I'm noting how easy that is for me in an area where I earn a Merit Point every couple of kills (which take mere seconds).

The Merit Points I've raised so far ought to help Thf when I get it from 70 to 99 this week. I'll finish Rdm after that one, and go from there. I should work on WotG soon too. Thf bothers me most, though, because I had started the AF quests and should finish them so I can do the non-Thf-AF quest from Nanaa to finally make her available as a Trust.

Once I have her, I'll be able to finish up those Windurst Trusts and move on with the series of RoE/quests until I hit the 86 wall I probably won't pass until the next campaign that offers ones I'm missing.

The ToAU story is complete.

I went into the troublesome fight with my i119 Whm/Rdm, put up Solace and then Protect V on Naja, summoned my Trusts, and initiated the encounter. I immediately undid my target and waited for a gear to hit me, and I attacked it, then the next, then the next, all while occasionally throwing Cure IV at Naja with my <stnpc> macro.

Then came the Alexander fight, which was easy as all get-out compared to the previous battle. lol

Also, I am done getting the Col/Lair Reives RoE stuff done for a cool 38% bonus to Capacity. Between the stories I've done, those reives, my cape with a 25% bonus, and the Endorsement Ring, I can easily earn over a thousand capacity per kill in the Drifts, and rack up an estimated 96k in the course of 45 minutes (the time it takes to rack up 37 Merit Points). I understand there's allegedly better out there, but I'm content with this for the sake of my current goals (stories and leveling jobs, while throwing Merit Points at suitable bonuses).

And I died because of some seriously bad luck with the mobs, half the last zone away from the home point. I really should pick up Invisible already so I can bypass fights that aren't the colonization reives. Hopefully none of those monsters detect by odor, or that would seriously stink.

you are going to escha zi'tah right after crawlers, it's not changing the total number of zones you go to though

Perhaps not, but it is leaving when in the middle of a dungeon that works perfectly well, and trying to keep track of what level I am so I might leave at the right mid-point. So yeah... I'd rather just run through my route as I had mentioned. That's my preference. =)

Oh! Last night I checked out my Deeds of Heroism and rewards available. There was one item that caught my eye, and I was able to afford it with only 30 Deeds. The next time I go on a Capacity hunt, I am giving this Endorsement Ring a try.

I've also swapped over to the I-8 loop in the Drifts. For all immediate purposes, including my end goals with the game, the only ways this spot could be better is if the Lair Reive switched places with some mobs outside of the loop, or if the long stretch of nothing had an enemy or two in it. I have gotten my Capacity combo to somewhere in the teens, and would love to take it higher while solo (without worrying about bursts or aoe attacks). Right now I get 415-660 capacity a kill, and I have yet more to do in terms of story (and also one more zone, I think, for col/lair reives).

Tonight I plan to explore that area, pick up a couple spells for Whm, and give that fight another go that had given me trouble a couple weeks ago. Naja is so staying alive this time, and I will finish ToAU. @_@

The sad thing is solo Capacity grinding has so far been more enthralling than phase 3 Ishgard Restoration in XIV. Damned Expert crafts and bots flooding the ranks... I'm only doing weeklies at this point, minus Faux because I can't get a reliable group for Unreal Shiva that runs when I am actually, you know, available to play.

CP solo I always preferred moh gates apex efts because no link/agg, but undergeared players can kill aerns in escha ruaun for their first 100 or w/e

Considering how easy it is to grab the most basic i119 gear--something I wish I had known even when my War hit 99--and the boosts from Merit Points thanks to mobs around that level, I should give Efts a go at some point. I'm basically setting up with weapon skill, Dexterity for accuracy, and other relevant stats so that such fights don't take forever. When I figure out the best spot or mob for myself, I'll be keeping in mind time versus reward; so if Efts on average take as long to kill as an equal worth of Stryxes, then no dice. =p

Something else in regards to time is how long it takes me to get to the desired monster. It's why I decided against one cave the Fantastic EXPs guide recommends, because I have to traverse a distance, dealing with low-level mobs that still aggro despite being so "weak." With Stryxes, I use the Home Point to get to the Ravine, climb the vine, and I'm there. No hassle, minimal travel, quick kills that might be a little too quick (so losing chains is a risk) for the six birds that are present, and the regional bonus thing as a cherry on top. THAT is what other spots have to compete with.

honestly you should resummon as soon as the cooldown is down, because you've probably levelled up 2-3 more times in that timespan early on

Unnecessary, and a waste of time for the first 30 levels. At Qufim I may consider a resummon in the middle, but it's not necessary even there. Crawlers Nest is where I may benefit from it.

agesboy posted...
i go to escha zitah at 45, it's a bit tough but if your vorseals are good you can single-target kill enemies faster than stronger enemies outside of escha. having partywide mp/hp regen is a gigantic buff to have for sustainability, and i think those are relatively easy to get (participate in domain invasions)

Perhaps, but I like Crawlers Nest. It works for me for so many levels as long as I move forward and resummon as necessary. I like it more than going to too many places. One buddy of mine reminded me that the pond area of Boyahda might work better for me than Teriggan, so we'll see.

agesboy posted...
if you want to quickly get merit points you definitely want a job that's actually good in aoe, something like beastmaster or blue mage. you can get them and spend them on any job, and it's better than trying to farm them and CP at the same time if you could actively make use of some more merit points to great effect

I want Merit and JP both. Not too many of the latter, but enough for War and Whm to be super effective through content as I continue to solo it. Merit Points help all jobs, but Job Points are rather specific. I'd like a better spot than the Stryxes, which die a smidge too quickly; there are six of them along a river bank when a seventh or a loop would benefit me with how I do the thing. I prefer those out of the Ravine's mobs since there's the regional Record for them.

I like the monsters in the Drifts, but, again, I haven't found a good loop to work with (since I hate standing in a single spot). I haven't gone into Outer Ra'Kaznar yet. I don't mind the (non-Apex) monsters in a couple higher-level Gates, but they take more than twice as long to kill as Stryxes for double or less of the Capacity.

Hrm... I was hoping for Goblin Stews this month so I could save on items to expand my inventory a little. I guess a Caliber Ring and Facility Ring would be nice, with the former for an alt job and the latter for any job's Job Point progression. I don't have use for anything else available this month. So I may pick these up and store them for whenever, such as if I want to expedite either Teriggan or Misareaux (not a bad area, but the same one mob for so long). We'll see.

Also, I should see about getting more of Waifus of Vana'diel completed at some point so I can get the next Rhapsody for the extra boost to Exp/LP. I was planning to do WotG story after ToAU is over at long last. It'll be either WotG or RoZ next, but both are getting done soon before I continue with CoP, let alone switch to Bastok and eventually Windurst for their full stories.

That is going to have a nice impact on things, I think. Level up faster, and make the job more... let's say playable at a higher rate. lol

While I sit here waiting on my laundry to wash and dinner to cook, I feel like I should make a walkthrough, of sorts, on how I level my alt jobs in FFXI at this point. Note that this is meant for characters that have unlocked or done a ton of things already.

I make sure I have the Chariot Ring fully charged and the Echad Ring available. I save the daily bonuses until a short ways into the first . . . I want to say hour. Also carry an Instant Warp scroll at all times; they're cheap, especially if Signet is kept up (though at this point I can do without). Additionally, I have a regional bonus up for most areas (save Eschad or Sih Gates) via the SoE. Those sparks and accolades are nice, and the Exp is OK. base level 1 gear with that head piece that's good until 30 are all good until the first wave, which takes two to three hours, tops.

Starting at level 2, because the daily Unity Chat bonus already got everything that high for funzies:

  • Go to West Ronfaure, summon my leveling Trust party. This consists of Trion (tank), Yoran (superb healer with daily bonus as Unity leader), Lion or Semih (either works for physical), Qultada (potential Exp buff, accuracy buff, or damage buff), Shantotto II (the nuke). Make sure to resummon with each zone at first.
  • Proceed to kill Even Matches or Toughs through the first zone as I head south, enter La Theine to kill a handful more, and then Valkurm Dunes. Here is when I finally pop the Chariot Ring the first time and concentrate on Tough or higher until I'm in my 20s.
  • Survival Guide teleport to Pashhow Marshlands and ride my mount up to Rolanberry Fields. THEN resummon Trust alter egos, keep an eye on Chariot Ring effect, and kill Goobbues on the way toward the survival guide in that zone.
  • At 29, teleport to Qufim. Finally pop the daily bonuses in Sparks of Eminence before I continue on a killing spree that would make FFXIV's Khloe a proud little kitten. Again, concentrate on Very Tough or higher.
  • At 39, teleport to Crawlers' Nest. Activate the Echad Ring, and grab the first training thing off the Ground Tome without repeat. Kill stuff and keep moving forward from mob type to mob type until the room with Knight Crawlers. Be careful not to go into the room with the 90-somethings. Re-summon Trusts with each change in monster-level-range (every couple rooms). I should be 55 or 56 by the time I am done.

At this point I warp back to San'doria to sell junk, give some crystals to an Ephemeral Moogle, and go to Adoulin to give some crystals to a telepoint. If I want to take a break, this is generally a good time to do it. Having Echad ready again is nice. Actually, after the next location, I try to have it ready, activate it, log out to do other things including FFXIV or work, and come back to find it ready again; and I do this for each new location. Basically, from here on, I tackle one location a day to save my sanity, because the daily bonuses help as well. One more thing that might be optional

  • Use the Qufim portal to get into Eschad. I grab a Mollifier and make sure to have an accuracy bonus running. Another bonus might be good if I can easily afford it, but I try not to worry about it. Having 180+ on my relevant weapon skill is helpful as well, especially in the next area. Here, I slay Dhalmels until late 59 or early 60, and move over to Coeurls until 65 or 66, depending on mood.
  • Cape Teriggan. I hate the lighting here, for one thing, and it's here my Whm started to feel the level slog, though maybe due to low weapon skill. I fight the cockatrices and manticores, the latter once I'm 67, until 69. Then I get out quickly.
  • Boyahda Tree comes next for the crabs and dragonflies until 72 or so when they become only Tough. Then I move over to spiders and morbols until those too drop to Tough.
  • Next is Misareaux Coast to fight the Seaboard Vultures; first the ones outside of town for one level, and then the ones by the Survival Guide since they are a level higher. When they become Tough, maybe squeeze one more level in before moving on at 80 or 81. It is unlikely that I'll have a daily bonus for birds, but use it if available.
  • Unity Warp or Home Point teleport to Mount Zhayolm, and ride my mount down to the Orichalcum Shells. A daily bonus for Aquans is nice, but not necessary. Stick around until 85 or 86. They are numerous and grat at this point. Lion is nice here for piercing.
  • Use the Atomos, since it's closer, to get to the Champion Crawlers in Rolanberry Fields [S]. Stick around until 90 or 91.
  • Ceizak Hunting Grounds. Mandragoras for a level or two, if they're available. Otherwise go for the five bunnies around J-7 (other groups are either two, three, or mixed with other mobs). There are also some wasps around H-7 that are nice, and great for dropping Honey and Beehive Chips if I'm in the mood to activate those loot bonuses. Actually, wasps might be best until 96, come to think of it.
  • Finally, Sih Gates. This one might be a smidge tricky with how fast the first mob respawns. Kill the Chapuli on the way down to the mandragoras. These Mandies are slightly less inclined to sleep you than the Ceizak counterparts--good gods, the Sleep Resist food and Barsleep combined did squat--but will still do it; and yet they like to link up. So be careful. What I like to do is fight Chapulis until 98, resummon Trusts for more oomph, and fight Mandragoras until 99.

That's it. By the end, I usually have some i119 gear (from Bayld) and some lv99 accessories (Sparks), and maybe an item or two from the Auction House, so I equip those when I ding the last time, and kill whatever is still on me before leaving the cave and planning my next move. Sometimes I may do Teriggan the same day as another spot, or the Adoulin areas together for the home stretch, meaning this whole thing takes me about a week for one job. If I see myself playing that job for actual content, I'll use the Vultures (I think it was) in Marjami Ravine for Merit Points and Job Points for a few days before doing whatever with said job.

What do you FFXI players think?

congrats on the 99 whm! if you want to cap that club skill fast just afk on an uragnite outside of adoulin with only healing/buffing trusts up. they regen pretty fast

I tried that before I was 99, and I guess I was missing so much, I didn't even get 1.0 points out of 35+ minutes of the encounter. Ironically, I got more out of a colonization reive while I was still leveling, and those reives continue to be a good source of combat skill points, with or without skill usage.

Speaking of reives, I've just grabbed the materials I need--including a few of the numerous rabbit hides I had had in storage--to do the quest to be able to break down the ice barriers. Between colonization and lair reives, I have around a 30% bonus to capacity points to add to one story's completion (10%), a cape that gives some, and a Capacity Ring (50%).

Thanks to my exploring and reive completions, I can pick up some Job Points while working on Merit Points to make Whm more effective before I nab some necessary spells and finally do that fight with Naja. I'm so keeping her alive this time. Then I'll beat ToAU and get another 10% bonus from it. lol

I'm not sure which crafting class I'm going to use in XIV to attempt the Phase III ranking thing in Ishgard, but it annoys me that they apparently cut down the rate of rank points even after detaching it from, you know, the actual ranking (because that makes sense). You know it's because too many people have the pteradon mount for their liking, and to that I say too bad. People wanted to be done with the grind, and now everyone else gets to work for longer as a result. Thanks, Yoshi.

Meanwhile, in XI, I got Whm to 99. Once I have picked up some spells I want to work with, I'll make another attempt at that ToAU fight that's been giving me trouble. I hope Naja likes going in with even more Defense and Regen, because I'm keeping that idiot alive.

I should note that I pop an Echad Ring effect when I wake up in the morning, do other things away from FFXI, come back to level late at night, and pop the same ring again before hitting the Chariot Ring. This way I easily get a few levels during the daily 30-kill bonus before I head to bed, and that is how I go from place to place, usually. It's because of this a single class might take me a week or slightly longer to get to 99 from... actually level 2 since the daily Unity Chat bonus got the others up to there. lol

Additionally, I have the Sparks of Eminence bonus running for each area, except Eschad, so I can get that tiny bit extra exp out of it. The extra Accolades go toward Prize Powder to vendor off for 9999 gil a stack, and the extra Sparks sometimes go toward manuals to help with combat/magic skills since I out-level my weapons so fast that any lower skill will surely miss a ton by the time I reach Eschad or Boyahda. That is part of what makes Teriggan painful for me is it feels like my Whm has hardly contributed more than using an attack to tell the idiot Alter Egos to "kill this thing now."

at that level i usually go beat up fei yin bats with semih lefihna, she absolutely muderers them (she's also why lesser colibri are a popular levelling spot from like 60-70)

they're found either north or south of the qu'bia arena home point, so it's pretty fast to get to em, and enough spawn to where you shouldnt need to venture far to be fighting at all times

See, the problem I have with the level range is more to do with how long it takes. 1 to 55? A few hours or less, with the slowdown coming near the end as I traverse deeper and deeper into Crawler's Nest. 92 to 99? About that as well, maybe less. 56-92? I can just feel the dramatic shift of change in pace, and it in no way feels like a home stretch until I take off for Adoulin areas.

Also, I'm seeing Semih miss with some frequency. And she also has those AOE weaponskills, making her more or less the same as Lion. <_<

That said, I'm liking some of the areas I go to in this range. At 55 or so I go to Eschad (from Qufim) to beat up Dhalmels for a few levels, and then Coeurls for few to get to 65. As long as I have the accuracy bonus up, and the mollifier, this doesn't take long. Then my least favorite spot, Cape Teriggan, to fight the Cockatrices and Manticores until 69 or 70. After that I go to Boyahda Tree for a couple groups of monsters that last me until 76 or so (ending with spiders and morbols), misareaux coast to fight those birds for a few levels, Mount Zhayolm to fight the crabs until 86, and then now I'm testing out the Champion Crawlers in Rolanberry Fields (S). So far I'm liking the crawlers here, at least more than the mobs I had used in Necropolis for War, but I'm unsure how long this range will last. Hopefully it'll be good until the Mandragoras in Adoulin.

My Whm in XI is 85 at the moment. I loathe the 56-92 range for leveling things. lol

In XIV, I have finished my time with the Dwarf tribe this morning. 36 collectable turn-ins will get me the remaining Slithersands I need for gathering gear, I have all the other rewards you can get from them that interest me, and I got the two cards from the Triple Triad NPC that unlocks with Rank 8.

Once I've picked up enough Cubus Flesh for the syrups I'm making for this round of yellow scrips, I'll be so close to the 10k FATE achievement, and yet doing 10+ a week will still only get me there in under a year. :hmm:

Neat, in 5.35 they're opening more housing wards. Each server is going to see another 720 houses total, which will go fast on some servers. Three full wards (they're calling it six between the mains and sub, but whatevs) per housing area, which will be available to both FC and private purchases.

Good to know. If I have that day off from work, I'll know to wait until shortly after the housing rush to log in so I can get started with Bozja.

As for what I'm doing right now, I'm grabbing mats to make a hundred Rarified Syrups. I've done more than enough FATEs for the Cubus Flesh, with about four hundred gemstones remaining. Once these hundred are done and turned in, I may look on the MB and grab more Cunning Vs if the price is fair so I can finish overmelding my tools. Then I can keep doing the latest Custom Deliveries NPC until I've done all its achievements because my 5k collectable achievement will pop somewhere along the way.

Now then, in XI I have started to level Whm. It has so far been hilarious with my Trusts handy and starting at level 2. I kill a Tough in mere seconds, and reach the exp cap on the next level until about 22. Then it takes two Toughs to level until 24 when Echad ring runs out. I think I logged out at 28 when my eyes could barely stay open any longer, and my daily Records of Eminence stuff was all done? It was kind of a blur having done all that as the last thing of the evening.

It's finally done. All of the jobs in XI are unlocked. Also, the vast majority of Survival Skills have been unlocked for Adoulin areas so I can get around those maps more easily. Getting through Dho Gates was a pain since the mobs suddenly jumped from incredibly weak to very tough (not counting Apex mobs in one room). At least I've done a fair number of Reives now so my Capacity Points will come faster if or when I get around to doing more with those. In the meantime, I'm working on attributes and combat skills so that leveling other jobs will be that much easier.

Building smn as a for fun job in ffxi

Which would be nice and easy except for the fact that I'm currently broke

I do need to level Smn. And, well, so many others. I still have to unlock a few of them as well.

Oh! During a FATE in XIV last night, we were fighting a bunch of leeches. I got one of the Legendary Medals I had needed for the Yokai event, so then I copied up to the item name and instead put in "Carbuncle's Ruby" and pasted this in shout chat. Nobody bit on the lowkey troll attempt. =(

Also in an hour I got 2 Yo-Kai weapons this morning, currently have 5. I actually kinda want to get back on and get more, but I also don't want to burn myself out doing FATEs. Also flying around ARR zones is wild.

I am now less than 500 FATEs from the 10k achievement. I need cubus flesh for more syrups for scrips, so I'll probably be doing yet more FATEs in the next several days; just not in zones outside of Norvrandt. lol

Honestly, take the event in a reasonable pace, and break it up with other things to do.

The Yokai event came back early this morning. I got my four minions and weapons that are new, tossed the weapons I don't need nor want, and picked up the new mount, which is my 125th one. Now I can return to something much more fun - overmelding my crafting tools.

I have my food, pots, macros, and crafting mats ready. It will take some time, even doing a bunch of NQ Brashgold, but today is the day I make my crafters the Aesthete set. Goodness knows how long melding it all will take.

Speaking of rng-related things, I got my Sapphire Weapon card yesterday after beating the necessary NPC a bunch of times. This brings me to 281 Triple Triad cards out of 301 at the moment.

Ugh... I so don't want to miss doing Unreal Shiva this week, but it could happen. I had planned to do it last night, but it was both way too hot for my computer to play the game and I came home late due to covering someone at work for a couple hours. I am hoping I can get a run in tonight, but we'll see. I also have fifty-five Rarified Syrups to make so I'll have the scrips to get to 70 Slithersand before spending the new beast tribe currency.

Tomorrow is when I ought to be able to make my new crafting set and start sacrificing Lalas again to appease the rng gods, because I am so not looking forward to overmelding. <_<

Meanwhile, in XI, the bits of exploration of mob-killing continues little by little. I pulled an Apex Leech to see how that would go, but it was so slow that I ended up using a scroll to return to San'doria so I could log out and go to sleep. At least that cave in general isn't terrible for merit points, even as my EXP-boosting ring rungs out after a few kills. lol

In XIV, I now only need more Slithersand before I can sit down and make the new crafter set. Tomorrow is the next rank-up day for Dwarves, so that should help in addition to the many, many syrups' worth of mats I have in my inventory right now.

As for XI, I am exploring the Adoulin ares little by little, and knocking out Reives while those Objectives are active, so that ought to help Capacity Points in the long run. While fighting things, my Great Axe skill maxed out. I'm still grabbing Merit Points here for the little time that takes each day, since XIV takes priority right now as mentioned before. Once I am able to come back and play XI some more, I have some expansion stories to work on and basically dominate.

The change to coincounter is baffling. This is an enemy type that is repeated over and over, so introducing you to the mechanics early on is a good thing. Was this change seriously made to appease the wowfugees? >_>

That would be ironic since so many wow refugees had accused this game, in the past, of being too easy in terms of mechanics.

Gathering materials for an Aesthete crafter set is going to take a while, possibly especially with the Sublime Solutions unless I scrip grind those. I'm already supplementing the beast tribe reward with yellow scrips so I can get those slithersands faster.

I've also played around on Ariyala while waiting between timed nodes, and I think I've gotten a good build picked out for my crafters, as painful as the tools are going to be.

So... August Log-in Campaign for XI:

I would like some recommendations if I can get them. There are Trusts available this time around, a couple of which I have. I am curious which Alter Egos I should pick up from this available list, such as who among them is a good tank, a good support, and maybe a good damage dealer.

For reference, my main Trust composition is Trion, Yoran-Oran (UC), Lion, Qultada, and Shantotto II. If I can do better than this for general leveling, for fighting particular NMs, or both, then that would be awesome.

So could one of you XI players take a look at what's available this month and let me know who's good, and who is better than what I'm using?

They made the oddest move with collectable crafting. So, the glove ability is gone for crafters. At first I thought they took out all collectables aside from custom deliveries and Ishgard Restoration, as the House of Splendors if indeed gone from the timer window. However, collectable versions of specific items are now in their own tab (hence why I'm spelling it with an a instead of an i) below the mastery books and whatnot; way at the bottom. So now we can make syrups all day, every day, though I'm unsure right this moment we'll see them worth more than 198 yellow scrips.

Now then, the trade-in window is changed in a way I certainly agree with. You select the item, hit the trade button, and then keep pressing the trade button until you have to stop for one reason or another. It's streamlined and wonderful, unlike what they had done--the total opposite with yet another confirmation box--to turning in HQ items for crafting leves. Now that is a head scratcher.

Anywho, the material Dwarves give, Slithersand, are also sold for 500 yellow crafter scrips a piece. I'm going to use this to my advantage and get my Aesthete crafting set done asap. Then I can test those new stats on the expert crafts before phase 3 of Ishgard Restoration begins.

On a side note, yes, I made sure to do the Dwarves' quests before daily reset, so I'm already two days into their reputation in the course of one day. One very long, tiring day.

I've been up for 21 hours after 3.5 hours of sleep, following a lengthy workday. Time to go to sleep.

Full patch notes out.
Hmm I was hoping Unreal would be a bit more high end than that. Oh well, hopefully the next one will be higher. Something between Extreme and high Savage, or high Savage and Ultimate would be great.

I had heard about that and almost let out a sigh of relief. Then I remembered when Auric and I were in a BLU party doing Extreme, and I felt like the only person in there who remembered every mechanic. That was a brutal, painful hour of my life I will never get back.

Naturally, I will need an Unreal Static with people who can figure out what to do and do it. <_<

It will show them as weak, but merit points gained aren't reduced iirc.

Yeah, I found the answer seconds before you made this reply. Thanks though.

agesboy posted...
You gain both at the same time, but only from "hard" enemies, and in very small quantities. You absolutely wanna unlock it as fast as possible. Some classes REALLY want like 50-100JP. Like, beastmaster gets -5 ready recast timer on one of their early-ish nodes, and the difference between a pet nuke every 15s and 10s is crazy.

Merit points are gained VERY easily as you farm for JP, to the point where you can cap out in like 15-30m iirc. Won't be too hard to get everything you want pretty quickly.

I'm dreading the Cap/Job grind, which is why I'm holding off until I find the job I like most... in a game I'm still not overly invested in. Like I may do a thing or two for War just to make matters easier than they already are, but I suspect i117 is already OP as all get-out compared to stories pre-Adoulin. Completing those stories takes priority for me, and I understand doing so helps boost the Capacity rate, as do certain fights (akin to XIV's FATEs) in the Adoulin zones.

I should be able to finish RoV as well, which should be nice. It amuses me that it basically is just a barely coherent story that pokes and prods you to work on the other stories while mostly just putting emphasis on the many waifus of the game. The bonuses are good to have, on the other hand.

Alrighty, I am parked in Kholusia, in Wight, until the patch comes, and probably won't be logging into XIV until it's time.

Meanwhile, the final limit break battle in XI has been beaten, so my War is 96 and picking up some more Merit Points to do the weapon skill quest. Then I'll make that last push to 99, but on some appropriate gear, and laugh at how insanely easy stuff will be by that point. This brings up two questions I have, though:

1) if I wear a gearset that is 117 or higher, will level 102 monsters or the like show up as Weak compared to my gear, or will the game still read them as like an Even Match as compared to my actual level? I don't see why it should do the former, but it seems like a fair question to me.

2) If I decide to unlock Capacity Points at 99 and progress on that, will it require its own mode, meaning I can no longer earn Limit/Merit Points, or might I be able to do both at once? This might be the deciding factor on how likely or often I bother with Capacity since I, as stated before, just want to beat the RoV and previous stories.

If I can do Capacity and Limit/Merit at the same time, that might, admittedly, be insane in terms of resulting power. If not, I'd prioritize the latter since increased stats or weapon/spell proficiencies will help alt jobs as I level them. On an amusing note to this, you know the Unity daily for communicating in chat? I've lately been using that 500 exp to bring otherwise untouched jobs up to level 2.

. . . *Actually looks up the answer to the second question*

OK then. I guess there's no reason NOT to unlock Capacity since it doesn't interfere with Limit/Merit Points. Time to max out the attributes, HP/MP, skills, and so on while I work on the Adoulin story. The thing, though, is I still don't know if I prefer XI's War over the others yet. It's just my first to get this far. All that HP and Vitality, though, will help my mages survive pulling things long enough for my Trusts to grab and kill them. That ought to be fun to watch when I get around to that point.

Also: I still don't have the Thief Testimony. I think it's the one I'm missing out of the lot, and not for a lack for trying.

gotta either thf or just huge mass pull and aoe things to retain sanity

I have had Thf sub because of item drops (it's how I got my Carbuncle Ruby), and the one kind of tonberry, or even the one that spawns it, is spread apart to the point where they die to my Trusts before I get to the next mob. I may have to go inside the Den of Rancor for another mob for this.

I'm trying to get a Prelate Key so I can continue the Lightbringer mission for Sandoria. After an hour of killing the correct type of tonberry right outside that temple, nothing. So I checked my inventory and storage to be sure, and no, I do not have the key anywhere. RNG-based progression, wee...

Meanwhile, the Internet seems to be holding up well enough--knock on wood--so I can run things again in XIV. I need another Copied Factory or two to make certain I have a reasonable amount of loot to desynth. Just a few more days to go to the big patch, and Monday is when the servers will be down for maintenance. I know where I will be logged out on Sunday evening.

That trek from Batalia (S) to Crawler's Nest (S) to Windurst (S) was a pain when I had done it... almost a week ago? At least I picked up those teleports so I could get around, but yeah... I already see how obnoxious or counter-intuitive some of the design is for maps.

Before I do the fight to lift my cap to 99, in XI, I'm going to work on some Merit Points to a reasonable extent since the exp is good. I have some cookies from town that are supposed to help a little against Sleep since those things are inexpensive. And before either of you XI players bring it up, yes, I have plenty of those Seasoned Stones and similar items so I can trade in for the item to cheapen the limit break fight. I'm just taking my time before deciding to push my War from 95 to 99.

As per usual, the exp is capped off too, so the Unity Objective for the last level cap quest will get my War to 96 once the time comes. Then I'll alternate between leveling alt jobs and working on the xpac stories.

I should do more of WotG so I can progress in RoV, but all in due time. Maybe I'll do that sooner than later for the sake of another little boost to experience? I'll think about it.

XIV take priority, though. I tried PUGing O8s for a "farm" I saw in pf, but their dps was low. We kept seeing the second Forsaken or whatever it was. I just want that mount and more achievements, if possible, before servers go down in a few days. Well that and get more gear from Copied Factory. I don't have much left to do before the big patch.

No, really, I'm even leveling my leading alt character, who is almost 80 on Sch despite having only reached Crystarium. If this keeps up, I might get her Brd up too and gear both jobs up at some point in 5.3, though I need to level Lyra's crafters and gatherers, and make certain she can make specialist-locked items for Wvr, Ltw, and Alc (such as glams or music rolls).

This also says nothing of my intent to play The'aster Bunny in 5.3, and experienced the trimmed ARR story with said Viera alt.

Meanwhile, I finally went to Adoulin in FFXI.

I have this habit of maybe playing a little bit every couple days to level, but otherwise logging on to activate those Unity/Sparks objectives under Unity (and the kill 30 mobs under "Other" every two days). Then I go out and kill stuff worth exp until the objectives are cleaned out, maybe do a thing or two related to story content, and reap the benefits. As such, my character is finally hitting 93 in War tomorrow. Maybe 94 if the exp outside Adoulin is good enough.

I should also see about finishing unlocking the jobs.

This is the week I mean to stock up on Copied Factory loot in XIV. Also, raid clears if possible, more Pyros weapons, and topping off my scrips for crafters and gatherers, but the CF loot is the main thing. In a week, I will be breaking that gear down with Desynth and (hopefully) be getting some useful materials from it.

Man next patch can't come soon enough. I find myself only logging in for an hour a day doing one maybe 2 roulettes then logging out, and maybe logging back in for a couple hours to raid for the week.

How would you feel about doing some old content on Tuesday or Wednesday this coming week? I'm off from work those days, and only need to go out to run a couple errands. There are a couple Omega Savage raids I'd like to run more for achievements, and O8s doubly so for the mount. I know you said something about 12s being one you need a mount from?

How about it? =D

I just got my tenth BA clear. I'm free of that curse, and no longer obligated to run BA. Now I can kick back and relax since there's so little left to do before patch 5.3. I'll probably get one more weapon done for achievement purposes, and leave the last eight of them while waiting for 5.35 when Bozja comes out.
