Rearrange it. Buttercup/Thor/Dio/Gipsy vs Him/Zod/Mechagodzilla/Cloverfield in Manhattan?

You're still going to wind up with Buttercup and Him breaking off for a squabble, then you have a flying brick vs a flying brick and two giants vs a giant and Dio

Which is hilariously the way I thought it worked way back when I Lopen posted...
For the record the big reason I disagree with Scion altering rosterability status inherently is because it has Start of Battle timing, meaning it's not actually resolving before rosters are sent and thus can't actually alter rosterability status. That's kinda why the mechanics are weird on it.

Like say for example you used an ability nullifying Start of Battle used vs Kain. What happens then? Kain's in this weird state where if he's rostered, your roster works, and if he's not, your roster doesn't work, so it kinda needs to be in such a way where it's more like "here's a suggested number, and you send whatever roster you want, and if you don't obey the number you suffer consequences (if this ability goes off)"

Which is hilariously the way I thought Kain worked back on week 1 when I got hosed. 'Oops'

Summarizing since I'm barely here to argue, Archer is mighty (even by my own admission), but he's also up against people who can obliterate him via his one glaring weakness, the terrain does not favor him, and my backup is stronger in general, by numbers and by power.

Even assuming this is the case, it doesn't change the other matter that all of this AoE from Dracula is still liable to hit Archer by proximity given what the terrain is. You'd still have Archer dealing with that, with Kuja, with whoever is meleeing him. Even if I don't think the melee will bother him (it's a distraction at best), Drac or Kuja hitting him magic? Yeah, that's gonna suck.

If Archer drops I think this one is more or less over, since I firmly take Sora over Cloud and anyone on my side over Terra. That's less Terra disrespect even, more "Drac, Sora, Kuja are all mightily over her head." Alice slightly less so, but she has Invincible Banshee Mode to fall back on. I see that catching Terra way the hell off guard if it comes to it.

So why doesn't she turn Esper in the cutscene where Kefka finally tells them to stop being self-help booklets and everyone throws down? She could have. She had the ability. She does not, she fights him as bog-standard Terra (at least as far as cutscenes go).

So why? I'll answer, because she's fucking Terra and the only way she doesn't go to Trance as a last resort is by adopting the mighty GameFAQs Terra routine that she always seems to sprout when it's required. Otherwise she is Terra, Queen Weeniegirl who will Trance if pushed, but otherwise no, she ain't starting this match by Trancing and flying, except in a perfect narrative where that's the way she wins and damn everything else pointing to the fact she's Terra.

Given she was fighting God Kefka at the time, you'd think that would be a *pretty* good time to go full steam ahead. She does not. She clearly *could* have, except it's Terra and goddammit she had to stand there and ramble to Kefka about love and hugs. She turns Esper later when it became apparent not doing so would mean the messy death of the entire party, but Terra in no way, shape or form shows that she would go "Killbot Terra awaaaaay!", even when confronted with a final boss where it *really* would have helped with.

By end-game she does not bust out the Esper powers cutscene-wise until after Kefka had been beaten and his tower was about to collapse on everyone's heads. Then she loses them entirely.

Probably the universe where this fight has plopped you horrifically close to the other side, casting takes longer than swinging your sword and swinging your sword will keep people from killing you. I can see her casting if she can make some room, but given the immediate situation, that room needs to be made. She has immediate options for it (and clearly brought her equipment to this fight to play hybrid, given the Genji Armor and her super special bonus sword).

Ain't the same as "Derp berserker Terra is stupid", if that's where you're going. But if she's going to start out this damn close, and no, she can't immediately fly, why isn't this her immediate reaction? Not like she's Kuja where being a mage is her sole gimmick.

Honestly the more logical thing to do is for her to melee at this range, since who the hell thinks it's a good idea to cast in a fight beginning at eight paces? Same reasoning I don't see Archer opening with his damn arrows. He's proven quite content to use his melee if he thinks it'll work, and this fight is practically crowding him with bodies.

No, it means that it's very unlikely Terra starts this match and immediately goes "Oh shit, better Trance and fly away!". I think she's far more likely to at least try some standard tactics first, like hitting things with her basic spells. Or maybe it's as you originally said and she tries to wind up Holy versus the vampire. Either case ends badly for her since Dracula is way the hell faster than her on everything but her weakest spells, of which he's too tanky to care. Maybe then she'd Trance, but with how hard Dracula's stuff hits, she's probably dead by then, or at least maimed.

"Basic flying backwards" is something she isn't even capable of until she goes Trance. I feel like this argument comes up in every match with Terra where she's treated like Esper at All Times and not a ground based combatant who also goes Trance when it's needed.

I'd still like to hear what exactly Terra is doing here. Charging Dissidia Holy? Charging FF6 Holy? These were the two initially presented options, and both of them are going to get her smacked. I also find them likely, given she has no idea what Dracula can actually do, only that there's a bloody vampire over there and it would probably be a good idea to Holy it.

Going immediately to Trance and flying away? First, I find it unlikely she does this and gets out of Dodge faster than Drac's spells (particularly the *really* fast stuff like Megiddo). Second, I find it out of character for her. Terra is scared of that Esper shit in the best of times. She only goes to it in FF6 because all of her friends were going to die horrifically if she didn't. Nothing at all about Terra's personality makes me think she would start a match and go "Gotta killbot mode now!"

From eight steps out, does it matter? No, unless you're giving Terra reflexes akin to the Flash. And additionally backpedaling as fast as your feet can carry you from the original idea of her opening with a spell, not Trance and dodge.

At this distance? Most of em. The barrage of dark energy balls would hit her. The flame geysers under her feet would. The tiny, speedy fireballs wouldn't exactly damage her (even I give Terra that much credit), but they're also way too fast to get away from at this range.

Those are all first form stuff, of course. We never actually do specify *what* form Drac starts in, but if we roll with the second form, he can literally take a hop backwards and hit most of this terrain with acid. Again, much too fast to reasonably avoid, let alone Trance and *then* avoid. Somehow.
