It's just different compared to when we were kids. There's no obstacle that blocks progress in games that are massively popular with kids like Minecraft, Fortnite and Roblox. Valve has had many failed and cancelled Half-Life 3 prototypes. KOTOR 3 wasn't made because Bioware got bought out by EA and Lucasarts couldn't afford a AAA RPG. When she wanted to go for a new deal where she could own her own music the owner knew he needed to sell off the company asap. There was no way he was going to sell the one things that gave his company most of its worth. The Last of Us series also has a main character who delves into it in a major way so it has both examples. In fact I can't really think of many poor examples of LGBT characters in video games. So it really depends what you liked about the first one. You're playing as two brothers on the run. So it's more like a big road trip adventure. Each episode generally deals with a new issues and characters. The characters are still well written but because of this structure the game feels a lot more slower paced as a whole. A few years later the opposite happened. EA and Microsoft now publish their games on Steam.
