I liked the Pre-Sequel just fine. Loved the low-gravity moon jumping, and playing as the "bad guys" was pretty neat. I just feels like the odd one out in comparison.

I've played all except for Tales and the obvious phone garbage.

B3 I like a lot, and it checks a lot of boxes a big sequel should, like even tighter gameplay and skill trees, the Guardian Rank replacing Badass rank in a way that makes more sense for post-story play (basically Diablo 3's Paragon system). The expanded lore and world/galaxy building helps a lot, too (and making each manufacturer have an even stronger identity).

That said, B2 was a huge step up from B1, whereas not so much from B2 to B3. But the biggest reason B2 wins is Handsome Jack is like one of the best game villains ever conceived, and it made the story a non-stop mix of laughs and loving to hate Jack. The humor is more varied and yet tight in B2 also, I think.

That said, I'm definitely including all the DLC (of which I played all of ) for B2, so it's not totally fair to compare to B3 yet. The Borderlands DLC tends to add big additions, either in introducing new characters (Moxxi and Torgue come to mind) or by putting the game in an almost entirely new setting and feel (Tiny Tina's DLC was a fucking blast). So who knows what B3's DLC has in store?

Also- I've always been kinda curious about Tales, but I feel like it's probably more efficient at this point to just watch a play through on Youtube. Or do the choices really matter that much?

The original games were nothing more than a blue hedgehog running really fast and defeating bosses. There's nothing there to base a film off of.

Later games started to introduce a plot, but....like all of them are really, really bad. Some are huffing-car-fumes bad. The Chaos Emeralds *might* be workable, but 99% of Sonic games with story are too stupid.

No, the House, which is controlled by the Dems and already has the required simply majority, is the one that impeaches. Once impeached, it goes to the Senate for the trial. THAT is where you are thinking it will die. And you're likely right.

But the impeachment portion is basically guaranteed at this point.

How stupid can he be to give so much evidence against himself? Did he actually think this helped him?

It's worth note that when impeaching, you can bring any and all charges rolled into one impeachment. What I mean by that is, while the Ukrainian call will certainly be the catalyst of the proceedings, you can bet Obstruction of Justice (especially the 10 instances in the Mueller report), numerous incidents of corruption and more will be brought up for a vote (since each separate charge must be voted on for impeachment).

I'd hedge your bets on it being a laundry list by the time it got to the Senate.Which will look even more damning if/when the GOP balks at it.

His chances of being impeached are basically 100% now.

Equally, his chance of being convicted are probably close to 0%. There's been rumblings that the GOP in the Senate might actually find their moral compass and vote to convict if it gets bad enough, but I'll believe hell freezing over first.

So basically, it's the same thing everyone has predicted all along.

And I know people don't count it as "official", but Ash won the Orange League and Battle Frontier. And he drops in and randomly Mary Sues a bunch of minor stuff since S.1 all the time (Primeape and the fighting league, anyone?).

I mean, the poll's question makes it sound like it'd be a port, maybe with a new coat of HD paint and small tweaks. With that in mind, stuff like Skies would be pointless (because as much as I like the game, it feels incredibly dated at this points, and really needs a sequel or a complete remake), and stuff like ToS equally pointless (ToS to me is already damn near perfect, and while having it on the Switch would be great, I still have the OG and it on PC).

Really, most of those deserve proper sequels, like Eternal Darkness (which almost got one). So I guess I would chose Baten Kaitos or ED, since those can only be found on the GCN.

Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2, even if it was just an HD update, would be amazing to have in one place. And maybe it would inspire Capcom to finally give us VJ3.

Your mileage may vary. It doesn't bother me, though I'm pretty spoiled by Persona 5 and the most recent Fire Emblem games when it comes to English dubbing (... and Jessie from FF7R is Futaba from Persona 5).

I feel JRPGs especially have gotten quote good in their translations and VA choices and whatnot for a while now. But FF games always seem.like they are still stuff in 2004 in this regard

The VA work.in the recent FA was really good, but it's a shame the character models could be so lifeless in a lot.of the scenes.

Sounds like The Color Out of Space movie with Nic Cage is getting good reviews.

http://collider.com/color-out-of-space-review/

Don't know if I mentioned it, but I've been trying to write a TV script/treaties for fun called "Arkham Horror" (based off of the board games set in the Lovecraft universe) that's kinda a unique story-line mish-mashed with other Lovecraftian elements, all in the same world. Maybe if I actually get it done and in a good space I'll attempt to pitch it, but that's WAY off down the road.

It feels like there's enough cult interest and whatnot that a major studio will take a crack at making a Lovecraft series. Like, if HBO or Netflix put actual money and effort behind it and made it an episodic. His style of horror is tricky and subtle for film purposes, but I feel like it can be done. I feel like Haunting of Hill House did subtle horror is a correct way.

The popularity of the Kindle, and e-readers in general is very high with adults and voracious readers in general but in this day and age, how many tweens and teens are rolling around with the equivalent value of a quality used car in books on their various devices?

I was just more surprised that a decent e-book version, or even a "master collection" edition in hardcopy form hadn't been attempted, considering its popularity at the time.

I've actually been really bad at using my Kindle. I've had it for like, 4 years or so and pretty sure I've only read one book from it. This is partly because book count the last few years has been woeful, and there's still a bunch of hardcopies I want to get through. I also know a good amount of bibliophiles that flatly refuse to own a Kindle, because they just like the way books feel and owning them so much. Which I can appreciate, but the size and weight they occupy is simply too much for me.

While we're on YA...was anybody into (or does anybody even remember) The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper?

I'm kind of surprised with the popularity of series' like Harry Potter that no studio seems to have taken a stab at it. The writing is good for YA and it is a bit darker in tone than the usual also-rans in that general wheelhouse.

Jokes on you, they DID take a stab at it. A movie came out for it a few years back that was apparently so god-awful that it was out of theaters in like, a week.

I know PO has talked about the series before, and I've chimed in a few times. I didn't finish the series and honestly don't remember much of it. For whatever reason, I guess I was never that "into" it. But I think I'd be more into giving it a re-try now. And I think it could survive in a TV format or multiple movie format. Of course, "if done right" is the metric-shit ton keyword there. Plenty of books that deserve big-screen treatment haven't been given the proper accordance (BBC is attempting a His Dark Materials series after the movie shit the bed. That said, I think Kidman still makes for a good Coulter).

Same. I was trying to find them one-book/Kindle,since while there's like 60+ books total, they aren't very long, and I figured someone would have made a "complete: edition or something by now.

Strangely, either they basically don't exist in e-book format, or they do, but are comically overpriced (I can't remember which), making getting them in a legit manor is impossible or prohibitively expensive.

Thankfully, there are plenty of...non-legit options of in the internet for this type of stuff.

Not gonna lie, Animorphs was a big part of my childhood growing up. I still think the alien lore and details are pretty damn impressive for YA books, and that they hold up well today. The insight of what it would be like to morph and have to battle the natural, often overwhelming instincts other animals have was a really neat touch that the series easily could have brushed aside, and instead make a focal point of how morphing works. The books usually don't shy away of details of the kids getting their animal bodies sliced open and bleeding out during battles, and get into everything from the main character committing genocide against another species to end the war, to torturing and starving out enemies and allies alike to try and save them. Basically, it could get pretty mature for a YA series.

"Ax" was actually my gamertag/player name choice for a variety of games for a long time in honor of the character actually. Some in the local Smash community here still refer to me as "Ax" (I don't really use that handle anymore, though).

I kinda watched the TV show when it was on, but I've always thought that Netflix or something should take a stab at making a mature series out of the books. With a decent budget for VFX and SPFX, it would serve as a pretty interesting Sci-Fi show that could easily flirt more with adult than YA audiences. I've kinda had it in my mind to write a script for maybe a full season script for a concept for fun (although I alreayd have a backlog of shit I told myself I would write, namely an Arkham Horror series that I've already started).

Otherwise, I guess they had this weird subplot in a connected spinoff or soemthing where Elminister or Ellister

Ellimist. He actually pops up through the books on and off throughout, and yeah, he's basically Grandmaster. There's a follow up book that explains how he becomes a god-like being and how he ends up becoming connected, and how what happens in the Animorphs is basically a cosmic game between himself and Crayak (and equally evil god-like being).

I mean, finding out in separate book at the conclusion of the whole series that he's basically manipulated everything is kinda an asspull, but since it doesn't affect anything other than a retro sense if "It was the god-like alien all along!", I guess no harm, no foul.

Kinda related: I got around to playing "To the Moon" recently, and there's a bit in the game where you have to answer a completely out of left field Animorphs trivia to proceed through the game. You can find out the answer in-game, but I knew the answer right away, and it was one of those rare, nerdy, "this-is-something-just-for-me" moments.

Getting slammed hard on a dumb little Kristen Wiig shoot here, want to actually post some stuff, especially relating to the Disney stuff. But for now: Palpatine officially confirmed...

...But there's almost no way they explain HOW he's still alive that won't be completely awful.

Like, the ONLY way that even begins to make sense is that Palpatine learned to conqueror death via Darth Plague's teachings (we'll ignore how that allowed him to also survive the Death Star blowing up, and how fucking lame this is and how it totally cheapens the end of RotJ). And even then, they will almost certainly not give proper screen time to explain how and why we even need a reborn Palpatine, how this fits into the established arc of this current trilogy, etc.

Somehow, this trilogy is going to end up worse than the prequels.

What is your favorite Food and drink? Spare no details on what whets your appetite and palette. It can span the history of your lifetime especially from your childhood.

It seems like a cop-out, but pizza is such a delicious pleasure that it would have to be that. I have a big weakness for fettucini alfredo and other Italian pastas, as well as most Thai food, specifically Massaman Curry, extra hot. A well seasoned steak goes a long way, too.

I love Thai teas and bubble/boba teas. I'm a huge craft beer snob too.

Bonus question: What food do you absolutely hate? Also, what combo of food and drink is your favorite? Like Peanut butter and jelly and a cold glass of milk.

I have very little foods I truly despise, but they tend to be popular ones that everyone enjoys. Like grapefruit, celery, and swiss cheese. I know have a few particulars, like noting liking onions or pickles on my cheeseburger (and basically not liking pickles at all unless this are spears). A few other quirks I'm probably forgetting.

Just got back from a 2 week vacation to Sint Maarten/St. Martin, Aguilla, and NYC. I see Wave is trying his best to die again. Gotta stop doing that, man.

Anyone watching The Boys? Really dig the premise, I'm about half-way through. About to start the new Fire Emblem and get sucked into that before I go back to work on Wednesday.

Goldeneye is a key example of things just being mechanically outdated. However, the problem is much more than the fact they changed the mechanics. And with Goldeneye it was at least *partly* a matter of it being brought up to modern standards and the standards themselves being underwhelming, unlike say Pokemon FRLG which vastly improved upon RBY and is probably still the best Pokemon game in terms of campaign.

Nah, Source keeps all the same mechanics (universal ammo, simple health/Body Armor system, etc.), because that's exactly what people wanted. And was basically the whole point: it's not like playing as Bond characters or w/e was why people loved the game. It was nostalgia, and nostalgia for the simplistic but fun levels and mechanics. So Source gave it a face lift and kept everything else, and it's great for that.

Your Battlestar point is a good example, although I'd counter in that case, the original was never that good anyways. So anyone being real upset for the update and having nostalgia for the OG probably stems from not knowing any better/having nothing better at the time. It doesn't mean the original was actually GOOD, though.

Not really, though. The nostalgia isn't purely mechanical, it's based on the characters and story as well --- and usually more so. And there's little reason to release essentially the same game *when* the same game is already available on the platform.

I was always under the impression that when people actually ask for modern updates of past games, that they basically just want a visual face life. That they already like the game mechanically, just wished it looks more modern. I know when myself or others wished something like GoldenEye would get that treatment, that's all we want (thank you, GE Source!).

Which ofc is different than wishing some old games would get modern sequels, or would spruce a game up to modern mechanics standards as well (Skies of Arcadia and Eternal Darkness immediately come to mind).

Can't watch the direct, I'm stuck on a film set in the boonies right now.

The one disappointing thing is not a lot of *new* announcements. As good as it is to see and get more info on stuff like AC and LM3, seems like most of what was shown was known. That said, BotW2, with an actual gameplay trailer, is very surprising and awesome. And NMH3 finally has me happy. And while I never played/cared for the Dragon Quest games, and I don't have the fond nostalgia memories of Banjo like a lot of people do, both additions make sense, so that's pretty cool.

Will be looking forward to reading up on the new IPs and stuff when I'm home. Am hyped for what I've seen, and there will be plenty to play in coming times for the Switch.

Also, not surprised or disappointed MP4 wasn't shown...I mean, it was only like, what, 7-8 months ago or less than it was announced that Nintendo gave the game to Retro to start from the ground up?

I plan on seeing Godzilla this weekend. Saw JW3 and Aladdin the previous weekends. One crazy line-up in a row.

Wasting taxpayer time and money is the right path. Ok

When even Pat Robinson thinks the legislation goes too far...

Well Id say you know you done fucked up, but Alabama ranks 50th in education. So I doubt they learned anything from this.

Tbf, the only reason Robinson is against it is he knows it is too extreme, even for the conservatives current SC. So if this is the case to hear and they throw it out, there goes another attempt at challenging Roe for like 10 years.

That was exactly my point about Robinson.

Got it.

Right. You could see the reveal coming for ToS's big bad, but he resonated more for sure. ToV's big bad was just... "Oh, we're doing this. And we beat him so now he's going to try things our way for now. Yay?"

Exactly. It was way lame overall. You could feel like they just wanted it to be Alexei, but then realized the game wasn't as long as they liked, so they threw him in instead.

I would have been more bothered if the overall plot wasn't a boring series of loosely connected plot threads that appear and are resolved too quickly, with little consequence to the overall story.

Which were you less surprised about, duke being the big bad or little mithos being yggdrassil

Probably the first one. Random enigmatic stranger who is powerful and mysterious and looks like your typical Shonen eng-game boss anyways. Then again, he appears so infrequently and you know so little about what he's doing that I barely cared about it. And when it's revealed he's the final fight, all I do was shrug. It was anticlimatic.

Compare that to Yggdrassil, who you know you are gunning for since mid-way through the game at least, and the story does a great job of building up reasons to take him down...as well as showing him to be a sympathetic character. Once a hero, now willing to die for what he believes. It was far more impactful.

I remember this being a fun debate back in the day when ToV first came out but...I'm just not seeing it. ToS has a way more interesting plot and themes, cast of characters, big moments and surprising twists, and just overall cohesion. Heck, while the battle system is definitely better in ToV, I'd take the fun of unison attacks over the over limit system any day.

Still a fun game though, but I feel it was a bit of a let down compared to what I was expecting.
