It's all DC as far as I can tell, and after DC dark animated features with Zatana, Constantine, and Swamp thing so I have faith. But it's a live action Constantine and Etrigan that are kind of important if we're doing the Preludes and Nocturnes arc since both characters feature prominently in Dream getting his symbols of office back.

afaik, Lady Death has always been an indie title. I'm not aware of the imprints being owned by either of the big houses.

And even if it was owned by Marvel, I doubt the licensing rights would have gone to any studio since she's a more obscure character.

Death is cool, but she's easy to play. Don't get me wrong, she's the alpha goth chick and all. Delerium on the other hand takes a manic pixie cranked up to 11 and that's a hard role to play. Live action Edward from bebop tier difficulty.

Though to be fair I'm not even sure from memory if any Endless besides Death make an appearance in Preludes and Nocturnes so it may not even be an issue unless there's a shot of the gallery thrown in for fanservice.

You're vastly overestimating Delirium and underestimating Death. Death might have the goth look, but she's very happy-go-lucky and is among the most cheerful of the Endless.

Yeah, bubblegum goths exist, and Death is oddly one of the most relatable of the Endless except perhaps Destruction. But what I'm saying is I can think of a dozen actresses that could play Death. Delirium would be a very, very short list. If I were casting for the show, Doug Stanhope's GF Bingo would be perfect. And she wouldn't be acting, lol.

Oh. Considering there an *actual* character named Lady Death with her own solo comics, that's somewhat confusing. And considering that Death is used as a side-character mostly tied to Thanos, I would imagine the rights always stayed with Marvel/Disney because why wouldn't they?

And looking through the wiki, most of her usage seems to involve other properties Disney owns (Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, etc), so her rights are probably tied to those other franchises meaning Disney almost certainly owns the film rights. If Disney didn't, the company most likely to own the film rights might have been Fox since s/he's a cosmic entity.

I will mention that Fox had a Silver Surfer cartoon during the 90s which featured a lot of cosmic characters -- including Thanos (with "Lady Chaos" instead of Death), Ego the Living Planet, etc -- which Marvel apparently had the film rights to prior to the 21st Century Fox buyout.

In an effort to keep Captain America modern and relevant Marvel is making some changes, and this was my response.

Then Cap should be hooked on Oxy, Spiral to heroin, sell Bucky to Jeffrey Epstein's people for money, get scammed out of that money by robocalls, and live outside of a shopping complex between a Popeyes and a Chick Fila, begging for a hot chicken sandwich.

Making Cap modern and relevant is like making a darker, grittier Superman. It completely misses the fucking point, and is pretty much doomed to absolute failure.

With all the decontructionist shit and bleak grimderp universes in comics, I feel like every major company should have at least one objectively good character who can act as a sort of moral compass for all the other heroes. The one hero that everyone is like, "I would follow this person directly into Hell if they asked me to."

People can say "Oh, Superman is boring" or "I can't relate to Captain America" or whatever, but every time they fuck around with those characters I just wind up hating them. And I don't think it's ever resulted in even a single new reader actually buying comics, so it just winds up feeling like stunt bullshit (like how they pulled the "Cap's secretly part of Hydra!" storyline a while back just to troll the Internet).

Year of the Monkey here. 1980. I only fling poo on obsolete Internet forums, though. :-P

As far as comics go, I almost wish they'd do the opposite: Instead of making the characters 'modern', they go back and make comic books or movies that place the characters back in the time periods when they were first introduced (or first retooled to become the versions most fans know, e.g. the X-Men). I'd love to see, say, Doctor Strange in the '60s, a true '40s Batman, etc. They almost did this with the alternate timeline X-Men movies, but they kept taking bigger and bigger jumps forward in time.

That's just making a new character to contrast the original. Like Marvel did with the Sentry, or what Surpreme was for a while, etc.

Those sorts of characters are one thing, as are one-shot What If/Elseworlds type stories, but when you do it to the actual character in-continuity is when I think you really fall down.

That was a large part of what made the New 52: The Nineties Strike Back so terrible creativity (and Geoff Johns more or less said this straight up when they were working on Rebirth).

On a similar vibe, I didn't mind when DC introduced Azrael as "grimdark Batman" or Marvel had Captain America replaced by John Walker (originally the Super-Patriot, later the US Agent), because the entire point of both of those storylines was basically to emphasize that darker versions of the character would be worse than the original. The Manchester Black/Elite storyline for Superman was pretty much the same thing - it was basically "THIS IS WHY SUPERMAN NEEDS TO BE THE BIG BLUE BOY SCOUT", rubbing your nose in the idea.

But to be fair, Brightburn always kind of looked like crap to me, and reviews don't really seem to differ from that assumption, so I wouldn't really hold it up as an example that "Dark Superman" can be awesome. Though to be fair, I also didn't watch it, so I'm only talking third-hand here.

Ironically, "Dark Superman" as a concept usually works best when it merely twists his whiter-than-white nature in slightly different ways. The Justice Lords storyline in the DCAU or the Injustice universe plot, or even stuff like Red Son. But again, those are mostly fun because they contrast with the core concept of who Superman IS, and work because they don't really replace the original. It's sort of the same reason why some of the best scenes in the Justice Lords episodes were the ones where Batman was basically arguing with himself, contrasting the two versions.

Which is what I was going to respond to your earlier grimdark Superman with. It was also one of the somewhat rare passable DC animated movie adaptations. Granted, it was *also* made before DC started to shoehorn comic arcs into their animated movie universe

Family drama aside, threat of a hurricane destroying Florida put off for a week, and it will, then we have to see where it goes in the gulf before we panic. We must not panic! Now that all of that is done I can focus on video games.

I i finally started Octopath Traveler, and I'm having a lot of fun. I just hate that I have to hand wash all my dishes because my dishwasher broke. Sorry no family drama. But at least we got our replacement dryer, and won't have to go to the laundromat anymore. No family drama!!

I am going to enjoy the game before my Wife's new work schedule starts, and before football season starts in 7 days. Go Cowboys! I mean sports re against are Geek terms and conditions.

Happened to see some newer MtG cards on display today. The visuals are still pretty neat. I still can't see myself getting back into the game any time soon, between some of the weird new mechanics, the cost, the lack of a community, and the demands on time from other interests. I still kinda want to design my own CCG eventually, though.

Also, as weird as it sounds, today I was thinking how it's a bit disappointing that we never got a sequel to that mediocre Green Lantern movie. That ending had me hyped.

Speaking of movies, I guess the final Joker trailer is out and... I'm still not sure what to make of the film:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAGVQLHvwOY" data-time="

Should I be excited for this? At some moments (mostly ones we've seen), it looked intriguing. A lot of the rest is whatever. I will say that learning that Thomas Wayne was intended to be played by Alec Baldwin is a major letdown. I suppose, if nothing else, it's an interesting experiment that could lead to similar treatments although apparently nothing else is confirmed just yet. I doubt it'll do better at the box office than the bloated, overproduced DCEU films.

I know the following is going to happen to my Cowboys this season, because lot of these things always happen to them. Some might be specific year to year, but in general it's set in stone.

Jerrah Jones will take some of the Johnny Walker Blue ruining through his veins, instead of blood, and declare that the burning ship isn't on fire after a 4 game losing streak.

Dak will hold onto the ball way too long, and fumble a lot, get sacked a lot, and get hurt, or throw a lot of interceptions, or all of them.

Zeke will get over paid, show up sometime in the season just to get hurt.

Jason Garrett will clap. A lot.

We will win a Game we have zero logical reason of winning, and everyone will over react especially Jerrah.

We will end up 8-8, and next year's Superbowl hopes will begin in January.

Saying all if that we are winning The Superbowl.

My whole philosophy with women is to be like a catchy song. If I'm around long enough, and say enough funny, charming, and smart things, they will eventually remember me, realize how awesome I am, and then bam... after ten years I'm their man. This is a long term plan for a girl you want to marry.

Now if you just want a chick to bang just be an A Hole. The bigger the A hole you are the more they like you. Money and being well dressed helps, but mostly if you just want a fling, be a jerk. I wish it was more complicated, but the type of girls that are hot and you want to just be with for a short while aren't impressed by your charm or sophistication. They want a good looking jerk who can help their social media ratings. My personal belief is that a girl under 30 really isn't worth dating. they aren't ready.

And yes... Jerrah is apparently going with Pollard as the featured back. His ACL will tear by the third quarter.

That kind of strategy requires a long-term in. As such, it doesn't seem terribly viable. And, honestly, that's a fuckload of time waiting to be happy. Granted, I guess it beats some people I know who wanted to propose after a single date or knowing them for a week, before ultimately getting engaged within 6 months. Man, what a mistake that is! Some of them have been married to those women for decades now! =p

My personal belief is that if a girl is single in her 30s, there's probably a good reason for it. Plus if you want to date a 30 y/o, why not start while they're still in their 20s?

It does happen. My wife and I got engaged less than a week after meeting in person, and we will be celebrating our ten-year anniversary this Halloween. She was in her 30s, I was in my late 20s, but it all worked out. Maybe because we had both been in bad relationships before and had a good idea what not to do.

For the married people, or people living with a lady or guy friend, do you find yourself always pulling their hair out of your hair or food? I bring this up because I just found a long red hair in my head of hair a minute ago. Growing up black, all of my family's hair was short and black, and this just never happened.

But now at least once aweek I find myself finding long red hair in my hair, in my bags, and worse, in my food. Which is terrible because I do 98% of the cooking, and I still find myself eating hair. I had rice and beans and hair yesterday after dialysis.

Apparently red heads shed more than normal women, or that's what my wife tells me. I have not been to Google to confirm this, it must be true or I wouldn't consume so much hair. Therefore, I'm asking if this happens to any of you too.

No, but neither of us really have really long hair these days (hers is medium and mine's medium shortish). And I've never really heard that any specific ethnicity or hair color is worse than others for shedding, but I've always had pretty thick dark brown and she's Indian, so it's hard to relate to your situation.

Even back when -I- had really long hair, I never really wound up with hair in my food. I WILL say that longer hair is almost always an issue with shower drains, though. But I can't even imagine a scenario where -I'M- the one cooking and I still wind up with someone else's hair in my food. I'm not sure that's ever happened in my entire life.

He screams into the night "COWBOY SHIT!"

"Lets get out of here Hunter Horse Helmsley!"

"I'M A FUCKING HORSE"

Tonight I *finally* learned how Animorphs ended. I was glancing through some wikipedia pages and, through some mild wiki-walking, I stumbled onto the page of the actress who played Rachel in the Animorphs show (who is older now, but attractive). It was then that I realized I didn't know how the series ended and that always bugged me somewhat despite not being all that into the franchise. (I had seen at least part of the show and read a few of the books.)

Of course, the first kinda drawback is that I didn't remember who most of the characters were. I knew Tobias because he was trapped in the form of a bird from early on and Rachel because she was Toby's crush. Jake I barely remembered just from being the leader. And Visser-Three I remembered simply because he was the villain (and, to a lesser extent, I remembered Ax because he was adjusting to the human world).

The other mistake was just reading the entry for the last book, instead of the last few ones. Kinda robbed myself of context there. All things considered, the ending was... interesting. Rachel died a hero's death, which I hadn't expected but YA novels have a penchant for killing characters off to make stories more poignant. And her sacrifice was apparently in vain. The good guys win, Visser gets put on trial at the Hague (I lol'd at the detail) and sentenced to live hostless in a cube. Jake feels conflicted after Visser's lawyers point out that he's a war criminal as well, which was an interesting touch.

And then there's weird cliffhanger bullshit ending where they track down the escaped ship (that Rachel's death was intended to disable) which has merged with Ax and they ram their ship into it. I had wondered if it was the start to a new series, but couldn't find anything

Otherwise, I guess they had this weird subplot in a connected spinoff or soemthing where Elminister or Ellister -- or let's just call him Grandmaster -- became a godlike being and engaged in a conflict with another godlike being, where various beings worked on their sides. Why the fuck does the franchise need any of that shit?

Oh, plus the books were apparently heavily ghostwritten, which I've heard is kinda common for this sort of genre fiction.

I suppose all of that might have been interesting if the show continued although, as far as YA shows based on book series go, I was more bummed out to see Spooksville end (and I guess Goosebumps). The show had some promise and I liked the original book series's concept. I will say that the chick who played Sally on it (Katie Douglas) is super-cute now. She appeared in an episode of some really awful children's horror anthology in an episode about a traveling circus that also featured the guy who played Death on Supernatural (Julian something or other), where I didn't even recognize her other than thinking she looked a little familiar. I guess she's also on a show called Mary Kills People which I keep meaning to check out.

YA book series kinda seem a natural choice for adaptation into a show so I'm always a little surprised that we don't see it quite as often as we do. Granted, most have had a middling (or worse) reception, so that's probably part of it.

Tonight I *finally* learned how Animorphs ended.

It actually ended when the main characters were actually 20-30 years olds and woke up in a pile sweating in their furry suits. Surprise.

I never liked the TV show, but I was a big fan of the books back when I was a pre-teen. Always kinda wanted to go back and read the whole series since I never finished it

Not even those books did it for me back then. I liked the premise, but it wasn't for me.

Not gonna lie, Animorphs was a big part of my childhood growing up. I still think the alien lore and details are pretty damn impressive for YA books, and that they hold up well today. The insight of what it would be like to morph and have to battle the natural, often overwhelming instincts other animals have was a really neat touch that the series easily could have brushed aside, and instead make a focal point of how morphing works. The books usually don't shy away of details of the kids getting their animal bodies sliced open and bleeding out during battles, and get into everything from the main character committing genocide against another species to end the war, to torturing and starving out enemies and allies alike to try and save them. Basically, it could get pretty mature for a YA series.

"Ax" was actually my gamertag/player name choice for a variety of games for a long time in honor of the character actually. Some in the local Smash community here still refer to me as "Ax" (I don't really use that handle anymore, though).

I kinda watched the TV show when it was on, but I've always thought that Netflix or something should take a stab at making a mature series out of the books. With a decent budget for VFX and SPFX, it would serve as a pretty interesting Sci-Fi show that could easily flirt more with adult than YA audiences. I've kinda had it in my mind to write a script for maybe a full season script for a concept for fun (although I alreayd have a backlog of shit I told myself I would write, namely an Arkham Horror series that I've already started).

Otherwise, I guess they had this weird subplot in a connected spinoff or soemthing where Elminister or Ellister

Ellimist. He actually pops up through the books on and off throughout, and yeah, he's basically Grandmaster. There's a follow up book that explains how he becomes a god-like being and how he ends up becoming connected, and how what happens in the Animorphs is basically a cosmic game between himself and Crayak (and equally evil god-like being).

I mean, finding out in separate book at the conclusion of the whole series that he's basically manipulated everything is kinda an asspull, but since it doesn't affect anything other than a retro sense if "It was the god-like alien all along!", I guess no harm, no foul.

Kinda related: I got around to playing "To the Moon" recently, and there's a bit in the game where you have to answer a completely out of left field Animorphs trivia to proceed through the game. You can find out the answer in-game, but I knew the answer right away, and it was one of those rare, nerdy, "this-is-something-just-for-me" moments.

Same. I was trying to find them one-book/Kindle,since while there's like 60+ books total, they aren't very long, and I figured someone would have made a "complete: edition or something by now.

Strangely, either they basically don't exist in e-book format, or they do, but are comically overpriced (I can't remember which), making getting them in a legit manor is impossible or prohibitively expensive.

Thankfully, there are plenty of...non-legit options of in the internet for this type of stuff.

While we're on YA...was anybody into (or does anybody even remember) The Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper?

I'm kind of surprised with the popularity of series' like Harry Potter that no studio seems to have taken a stab at it. The writing is good for YA and it is a bit darker in tone than the usual also-rans in that general wheelhouse.

Jokes on you, they DID take a stab at it. A movie came out for it a few years back that was apparently so god-awful that it was out of theaters in like, a week.

I know PO has talked about the series before, and I've chimed in a few times. I didn't finish the series and honestly don't remember much of it. For whatever reason, I guess I was never that "into" it. But I think I'd be more into giving it a re-try now. And I think it could survive in a TV format or multiple movie format. Of course, "if done right" is the metric-shit ton keyword there. Plenty of books that deserve big-screen treatment haven't been given the proper accordance (BBC is attempting a His Dark Materials series after the movie shit the bed. That said, I think Kidman still makes for a good Coulter).

To be fair though, we were and are by our own admission, nerds. Had the Kindle been an option when we were adolescents, we certainly would have owned them and loaded them up with books like seasoned frequent fliers. I would have literally moved half as much shit between 4 different apartments over the course of 2 decades simply because I wasn't dealing with 2 stuffed book cases and another several haphazard stacks of books because they all would have fit neatly on a magical cracker of a device.

The popularity of the Kindle, and e-readers in general is very high with adults and voracious readers in general but in this day and age, how many tweens and teens are rolling around with the equivalent value of a quality used car in books on their various devices?
