When people say live within your means, they mean dont get into debt. Theres no logical reason to reject extra spending if you can do so without going into debt.

If I had a trip I wanted to go on and knew I had a year to get the funds together, Id put in some crunch time at work and also do some scrimping until I had the money.

Many employers dont offer that kind of time off, even with a year of preparation.

Why are you ripping on people for wanting a good life and a decent standard of living? Look, if employers arent going to pay a living wage, then naturally people are going to have to turn to alternate revenue sources in order to supplement their income and raise it to the levels that real living requires. Back when Ron Paul was running for President, he said that Libertarians and Conservatives didnt want to abolish warfare or charity, they just wanted it to be handled by the private sector rather than the public sector. I guess we can thank assholes like you for proving him wrong and demonstrating that abolishing welfare and charity entirely was in fact your real aim all along, and the claim that you only opposed public funding by taxation was in fact a lie. It wasnt really taxes you opposed. It was charity itself, both public and private.

The biggest problem with FFXI was that the subjob system effectively forced everyone to play the first half of the game two or three times before they could play the second half, which caused a significant number of players to quit after getting to level 50 or so on their preferred job. If there had been no subjobs (or subjobs were automatically leveled), and advanced jobs didn't have to be unlocked (or started at level 30), I think the game would have been a lot more popular.

Right-wingers need to stop falling back on the incorrect assumption that there are just endless jobs available to anyone who wants one. Conservatives never seem to recognize the fact that companies actually turn away the vast majority of applicants they get. Workers are not 100% responsible for getting a job. At least 50% of the responsibility lies with the company who has to actually GIVE people jobs!

Most visionaries need someone to rein them in, or they start to get carried away with their own ideas and their work becomes incomprehensible.

Lack of funds can be a sufficient limiter ("art through adversity" is a thing), but usually once you're a "name" artist and can get people to just throw money at you, that's when things start to go wrong.
