If your employer fires you because you're Christian, Muslim, male, female, Black, White, Jewish, Arab, Hindu... that's illegal. Whether the group is a majority or minority doesn't matter. We're a single cooperative country. States have different demographics, different cost of living, different tax revenue, different spending needs. If one state brings in more tax revenue than it needs... and another state brings in less than it needs, but quality of life would increase with it, why doesn't it make sense to distribute that money to the state in need? The alternative, assuming you let people change their state residence, is to require people to move in order to gain state benefits. This not only inefficient (it's more efficient to move money to a state in need, than it is to expect all the people to move)... The only inclusive and specific language to use here is "people who menstruate." It would be incorrect to say "women" or "females" in this context. Not all women menstruate. Every if you want to be a trans-person denialist, not all people assigned female at birth menstruate. i.e. those who have not reached puberty, those in menopause, or those with amenorrhea. JK was mocking the use of specific and intentional language. Her suggestion of saying "women" instead of "people who menstruate" was, at best, medically or scientifically exclusionary and inaccurate. It's not tracked in any official way. Sick days aren't a thing either. If I'm not well or have appointments, I just let my PI know and I take the day off.
