I interned there as an HR analyst a year before I got hired full-time as a programmer. The interview for the internship was a total joke, the person who interviewed me (who was actually the executive director of the organization) basically asked me 3 questions and then was like "Okay, you're hired!" She was impressed because of the prestigious school I went to.

I worked under her for a year and she felt like I performed beyond expectations so she recommended me for an open programmer position. I worked that job for a year and got promoted to senior developer, which is the ceiling and where I have been for two years now.

I'm a software engineer for local government and don't like it very much. I don't think I ever really loved coding much, but at this government job most of my coding is in 10+ year old versions of PHP. I only recently am using some of the skills I learned in college because I've been writing a few APIs lately and I did the research to make sure they were written in a RESTful, object-oriented way.

It's very tempting to stay at my job because I have amazing health insurance, the pay is decent for the amount of work I do (which is barely any) and they are moving me to 4 days per week remote (which is funny, because I worked fully in the office during the pandemic), but I do sometimes worry that I will get to a point where I won't be able to move to a different job because my skills got so much worse.

I am mainly focused on fixing other areas of my life right now, so I decided that I will prioritize those first (especially getting my health in order) before thinking about switching jobs. I do have passions, I just don't have the energy to pursue them most of the time.

My dad could be verbally abusive at times, his rages were very scary. He used to threaten to kill me a lot but never actually did much beyond spanking me.

I had an abusive sister who moved in with us when I was in high school (she's 20 years older than me) who also had very scary rages. She went through psychotic breaks but refused to get help, and ended up homeless recently after trying to kill my mom and ending up in jail.

It seems like my life wasn't that bad compared to many others, but I remember being suicidal as a child, so I was sensitive enough for it to affect me. I actually just recently got diagnosed with complex-PTSD and am doing EMDR for it. Hopefully it helps.

I can't even imagine what my scalp would be like if I didn't use conditioner. I have very dry skin.

VELA and MUTE can easily 10x from here. Both of them are the premiere exchange for their respective L2s, Arbitrum and zkSync. They're still both below $50m MC, and I can see them by 30-40% from here before having a massive bounce on major events. Such as Arbitrum releasing a token or zkSync launching main net.

Pendle is definitely not garbage, it has lots of utility. Look it up. I've been there since the beginning and am certain it's going to go up. It will easily do a 10x from its ATL, although I think it might do more like 50x. In two years we'll see who is right.

what are your favorite Alts?

I have ETH (is that really considered an alt anymore though? lol), SOL, AVAX, and PENDLE. I highly recommend looking up Pendle, it's a micro-cap with some amazing potential. The basic premise is they have designed a way to tokenize yield-bearing coins and separate the coins into a yield component and a principal component, kind of like derivatives trading with stocks. I've been in the community for a while and was there even at its ATL (3c, it's 14c now) and they, in my opinion, will be very important in the DeFi community very soon.

Also, I think the flippening could happen this cycle (2024-2025). Arbitrum makes ETH very powerful.

I expect that this is just a retracement. I wouldn't be surprised to see lower levels sometime this year, but I think before those lows, we might see a retrace to something like 40k BTC which could really trigger some good price action in the altcoin market. My plan is to accumulate and then when alts get high, I will sell so that I can reinvest with more capital.

Lol I remember he came back a few years later and was a graduate student with a ton of publications and was really fit and seemed to have his life together but barely anyone on CE even noticed.

The moderators have gotten a little better lately about handling some of the worst offenders but yeah this place can get pretty toxic pretty fast. Makes it all the more sadder that I wager most of the peeps here are mid to high 20s into their 30s, and they'll just brush things off with "don't take CE so seriously", which I myself have learned to do, but I also still understand that as bad as CE can be, it can be a refuge for some people as their only outlet.

I spent a lot of my childhood/teenage years (~11-17) posting on CE and I remember I was made fun of horribly back then especially towards the beginning of my posting here (age 12-14 especially). I can see why, really - I was incredibly annoying and was looking for validation and love on CE (cue laugh track) that I wasn't getting in real life. I was overly vulnerable on a place that I should not have been. The mindsets on here contributed to a lot of rigid thinking I had about myself (no one could love me because I was ugly, I was beneath other people, and so on), and I associated a lot of my stereotypical "nerdy" characteristics with shame and tried hard to suppress them.

I'm not blaming CE. My childhood was simply sad no matter how I explain it, and I was abusing myself by posting a lot of the inflammatory content that I did when I was younger. I wanted to be treated badly, which is why I did it, even back then. My subconscious was smart enough to know just what to do to receive the ire of the internet, and I did this up until 2019. I had many different usernames and always had many alts (funnily enough I have only one now) and I used the alts to abuse myself in the later years too.

It's not just CE, it's probably the vast majority of the internet, and the world. But there are a lot of hurting people on here, who project their own insecurities onto the boards constantly. Many of them are made fun of too. I just never learned not to take the internet seriously until a few years ago -- people feel free to express mentally ill views on the internet, it's the nature of the internet itself.

I remember there used to be a lot of incel-type viewpoints here and I used to subscribe to them. I believed no one would ever love me, and I was certain of it. I started dating a really nice, nerdy guy with an amazing personality a few months ago and it feels so surreal. He is very, VERY shy (and I used to be REALLY shy), a stereotypical nerd (like me lol), and someone that a lot of CE (at least back then) would probably have thought negatively of and I probably would have dismissed him had I met him earlier. I haven't known him that long yet, but my guess is that we could really be in love with each other eventually... Not a fake "love" born out of desperation or a feeling like I will never get someone who treats me better, like I have had in other relationships. (Or he could end up being a total asshole. But he seems like an incredible person).

I never even dated until I was 24, only did casual relationships because I assumed no one could ever actually love me. Again, I'm not trying to disparage CE, I don't even know what it's like here anymore, and those were my issues, not CE's issues -- but there definitely was a lot of toxicity on here and I didn't really realize it.

My guess is that most people on here are in their 20s and 30s+ at this point. But if there's anyone younger, or just anyone who doesn't realize it yet -- don't take this place too seriously. There are a lot of hurting, traumatized, individuals on the internet and the internet is the only place they feel like they can express those negative sides of themselves.

They usually are kind. I've had many pitbulls and they have all been so sweet. It's a shame the bad ones ruin it for the good ones which are the majority

Yeah it is weird. Lots of drugs are less damaging than alcohol yet alcohol is so accepted. I even watched a video once about how heroin is potentially even better than alcohol
