Decided to suck it up and deal with the default controls... died quite a few times due to my muscle memory hitting R1 after dodging, which of course just results in me standing there motionless for a solid second before realizing oh yeah that's not the right button but too late there's a sword in me

I forgot to mention the Burial Blade as another Skill+Arcane weapon. Although you technically can't get it until the end of the game, this isn't exactly true either. You can technically get any weapon you want from the chalice dungeons as long as you know where to look.

I only just got to the Ailing Loran chalice and wow yeah the aesthetics are way better than the first two chalices. I know I've gone through these once before bc I remember fighting queen Yharnam, but it's been a long time

enemies are taking a lot more hits in this dungeon though so I might need to come back later... how many chalices until I can get one that allows me access to the burial blade?

Started another new character, so that's three I'm running now. Decided to go pure skill (with just a bit of arcane) and immediately went after the Blades of Mercy. Which involved getting Henryk to kill Eileen for me

The learning curve for these blades was steep, I died several times (I'm talkin' several times) against regular mobs while trying to get used to the shorter range. I'm used to having a bit more space between me and enemies

But once I got the hang of it holy shit did I start having a blast. Possibly my favorite weapon in the game now, makes it so much fun killing anything that stumbles into my path

Plus got the Saif and converted it to fire which has also been useful

a huge problem with the chalice dungeons is that the first two or three chalice dungeons are pretty much the worst ones.

I always wait til I'm a higher level so it's easy to just blitz through the early chalices

since yeah they are kinda boring

Started my bloodtinge character and actually succeeded in using the werewolf in the beginning to clip through the gate (it took me like 20 tries) so I could instantly get the Cainhurst summons. Also went into the shadowed woods early which I guess breaks Eileen's questline. Unfortunate. She's the only npc that matters.

Now I have the Reiterpallasch super early in the game and it's kinda neat... Not sure how I feel about it, might use it until I feel comfortable going for mah blood katana

imo learning the parry timing for winter lanterns is the best way to deal with them. You waste nothing but a single bullet that way, since the frenzy meter will fill right as you're in the riposte animation which negates the damage.

Just a reminder that I did post my PSN above, though, and I have over half of the chalices unlocked already. If you want some help, I can join in. Co-Op play makes the Chalices a lot more fun, anyway.

Funny enough I already have you, you were on my "now playing" tab for Bloodborne. Not sure which username you used to go by here but it's been many years since I added anyone from board 8 lol

I usually prefer to play solo, it's a personal challenge for me to beat every boss on my own. Though Chalice dungeons do get to be a slog after a while, so I might be down for co-op later. My PSN is SoulChaser17 btw

I really wanna try a Bloodtinge build bc I was always interested in using the Bloodletter. Boy it takes a long time to get that weapon.

My current strength/arcane build is going pretty well, got my Holy Moonlight sword and made it to Nightmare of Mensis. Been chipping away at some of the chalices but I'm not so good at some of these bosses. Like the Undead Giant, his second phase is tough to get a handle on for some reason.

Apparently beast blood pellets don't work as well with the moonlight blade

Honestly it's been a long time since I fought Laurence, maybe I'll have a different opinion of him after I go for my Beast Claw build. But my memories of him are pure frustration and no fun. And that bias has been confirmed by countless sources over a lot of time.

Granted I'm not as familiar with him as the other bosses in the game, maybe I just haven't faced him enough personally to grow to like him yet.

Out of curiosity, do you have a least favorite boss in the game?

Rom has extremely telegraphed attacks as well, you can always tell what she's gonna do like an hour before the attack is launched. It's just the damn spider underlings that make the fight any sort of challenge.

And don't get me wrong, they're annoying as fuck, especially for someone impatient like me. I don't even bother trying to kill any of them, I just rush Rom for a big attack and then bail out before getting swarmed.

Hit and run tactics suck and in this case it's not even risk free, you gotta be careful and find the right openings. The meteor attack usually leads to those openings...

but yeah fuck Rom agreed she's second worst boss after Laurence

Just grinded my teeth for over an hour on Ludwig, trying to beat him underleveled so I can get the moonlight blade early, but MAN. HE DIFFICULT. I have done this before but I don't remember how underleveled I was, maybe I'll advance a little more first and then go back.

The only times I was even able to beat his first phase was when I used a beast blood pellet, which I have now learned are VERY effective. But I have none left...

and of course each time I got to his second phase he annihilated me immediately

still one of my favorite bosses

Good point, I forgot about that. I understand sometimes they gotta reuse assets to cut corners and save time, but man it's always a bummer when it happens.

The burial blade is the one I always wanted to use but never got around to getting a good enough build to NG+ for

Currently using the boom hammer on a whim and it's surprisingly pretty fun

Also always wanted to use the claws with full beast mode but you have to beat the actual worst boss in the game to get the rune, which discourages me

Regarding the Beast Blood Pellet, it actually has a bonus damage modifier that increases the more you attack.

Yeah I mean I knew all of that, was just curious to know how much extra damage it actually gives you. Like when you first pop it is it a 1.1x modifier that works its way up to a full 2x when the bar is full? What kind of variables, etc.

As for the Chikage it's perfectly feasible to get early. Fighting Logarius is a challenge, but it's not even close to impossible. Just takes some time to get the hang of him. Use the Saw Cleaver, get it to +6 and you shouldn't have much of a problem on your path to the blood katana.

Man I love this game. Used a beast blood pellet for the first time against blood starved beast + fire paper and I barely remember the fight, it was over so quick.

Never actually researched how those beast pellets work, see speedrunners using them all the time to maximize their dps. What exactly is their damage modifier?

Whirligig Saw and Beasthunter Saif are fantastic and are easy to get yeah. The saw in particular simplifies a lot of encounters, I would consider it a cheap weapon.

The Saif's moveset is so stylish, one of my faves.

Don't like the Amygdala Arm at all, feels too clunky for me.

The final area in the dlc is one of my favorites in the entire series. Fishing Hamlet is such a cool place.

The final boss is a nightmare in every sense of the word.

The Rakuyo is the toughest weapon to get, probably in the entire game.

And for the Church Pick there's a hunter wielding it in a cell just after the first boss, you gotta progress first to get a key then go back.

Would you recommend just doing the max push ups you can once a day or should it be multiple times a day?

Only started listening to this band a year or so ago, and their songs have gradually been growing on me since. To the point where I'm full on in love now. I chose the ones that I personally have listened to the most, but I know pretty much all of their tracks are gold.

If that first "oh shit" moment has people pissed off then yeah as I figured people are just babies.

Not only did I figure it would happen, I could tell almost exactly how it was gonna happen once the new character was introduced. So it didn't take me by surprise at all, but even so I was still shaking with anger during that scene and I loved it. That was real emotion.

My only worry now is that the rest of the game will be as predictable...
