A lot of this had to do because the usual suspects all got drawn against each other in the last matches before getting to the top 10, letting these guys take the spotlight for a change. Also a couple of nice DREAM RUNS and yeah, this awesomeness happens.
Shame about Dunsparce though, almost got in, but faced Tropius just before the top 10.

While I think the lack of exemptions if you got tested (including the incubation period and whatnot) raises a good point, other people who engage in risky sexual activities are banned from donating. At least, they're here. I think it's 3 months if you had a new sexual partner, and that's with using a condom.
I don't know how long it takes, or what the nature of the ban is, if you didn't use one.

Hi,

Recently I've been playing quite a lot of Blood Bowl but simply matchmaking matches. I've been meaning to play in a league for some time now and then I thought, why not a board 8 league?

For those of you who don't know what Blood Bowl is I'll give you this link seeing as this is one of the best introductions to the game I've come across:

All in all it's a turnbased board game based on [American] football that is incredibly violent, has rpg elements, you level-up your guys, features 23 races/teams. It's built for league-play and is remarkably balanced for a game with so many options. Moreover, it's loads of fun and it's easy to get attached to your guys (or gals) which clashes with the violent nature of the game creating loads of tension and excitement.

A lot of that comes from that it's a dice-based game and rolling a one means that the action fails, usually resulting in your guy getting on the ground, or worse, in the injury-box, and more importantly ending your turn. As you can fail your first (and thus last) action of your turn, your really need to manage risks and always plan so that even if it fails, you're still in a good position. This doesn't mean that the game is all about who gets the luckiest rolls. Prioritizing your moves make up a big part of the game, e.g. moving your guys first (no chance of failing that) before attempting the riskier things like blocking, dodging or passing as well as knowing the odds and choosing the skills that you think will be most useful on your guys. That said, there will be some games where the dice are completely against you (or in your favour).


Interested? Good. If we can get some people together we could form a (small) league and start a season. If we can get enough people, I'll make a new topic explaining all the specifics of joining, etc., don't worry.

As I mentioned in the topic title, it's free, all you need to do is register an account. Then you're as good to go. The client itself is Java based, shouldn't be a problem for anyone, I guess. It's easy to use.

Reading the rules might not be a bad thing however.

Don't be intimidated by the amount of pages, 3/4 of them are just background fluff.

Now, perhaps you're thinking: "Won't I get completely slaughtered if some blood bowl veterans join the league while I'm a complete newbie?"
The answer is: "Yes." To counter that, it's probably best for those who've already played it (myself included) to pick one of the weaker teams (stunty) like Halflings.

Also, you can play some matches on fumbbl to learn the game. The best way to do that would probably be joining this group, which is specifically designed for new(er) players to play matches against experienced coaches who'll give advice. Uh, partied harder, I guess. Honestly, my first time was actually one of the worst given that I have no memories of what happened for an hour of two. Nothing major happened, or at least nothing somebody told me afterwards. Thankfully that (lack of) experience made me more careful, never gotten that bad again.

I assume they wouldn't test the blood because testing might be expensive. It's probably easier and cheaper to ban gay men from donating than it is to just test all of their blood. If the statistics say that gay men have a significantly higher rate of HIV than the general population, then it makes sense. It sucks, but that's probably the best way to go. I would assume that blood is randomly tested, however.

I think it's the same here (Belgium), at least i know gay men can't donate, dunno about lesbians, but since they aren't mentioned on the questionnaire I just assume they're allowed to.

Botanicula is really good and Universe Sandbox is more of a model than a game, but still fun it you're into space and all. Haven't played the other games.

Zachorn, if you really want this to be accurate you'd best count my vote as a rejection, because as I said, my best friend did come here at least once, the rest was purely hypothetical.

Eh, rejection, based on the fact that my best friend probably came onto this board once during the contest season as he sometimes browser gamefaqs. And even if he didn't: the chance of meeting cool real life people who once for 2 minutes browsed the board and never being able to talk to them would be annoying in several situations (co-workers, etc.). There's also always the chance that someone I like/love (besides that friend) somehow got on here, how slight it may be, and that isn't work the risk imo.

If I however had a (magical) list of people I wouldn't be able to talk to again in real life, things would be different. If I saw no one I knew on there then I would probably agree on any price someone propositioned me that would be somewhat substantial: anything over $500 or so. But I'd probably try to see how much I could get out of it. Hard to put a price on it myself, so I'll go with the $500 as long as the previous clause counts. If not: no.
