Eh it's more like Disney in general has this motive to appear woke so a lot of their movie choices seem more artificial. Black Panther was a great movie though. They can be pandery and good at the same time.

I'd argue that film representation does have some value, but film studios really try to oversell this to make themselves look progressive.

Many people have a very hard time understanding criticism of "woke" ideology as being different from a progressive ideology. Woke generally refers to a much more performative (dare I say virtue signal) set of actions while progressive is more matter of fact.

Frankly, I don't care what the leads of a film look like, but Feige has made it very clear that the MCU will be making very strong pushes for diversity going forward. If these films are like Black Panther then great. If they're like Captain Marvel and Falcon and the Winter Soldier (by far the most I've ever been disappointed in an MCU film/series) then I won't be too excited.

In a greater sense, I'm getting really sick of the Marvel formula and Marvel humor. It looks like they're trying to make their movies more diverse, but not trying to fix any of these issues.

The Suicide Squad is a great example of doing something different with the super hero genre. MCU stuff tends to feel the same even when it is different. The MCU also seems to rely on a lot of callbacks to obscure side characters showing up.

Like I would probably never accuse a DCEU film of pandering if they had a film full of non white leads, because they've never given any indication that they care about performative politics so I'd assume it was 100% because they believe in what the film is.

It comes off as forced diversity but in reality up until a few years ago, the former higher ups wouldn't green light anything that didn't star a white dude. They wouldn't even let a girl be ghr main villain which they re-wrote in iron man3. Now they can finally make those things and probably happening all at once and people are crying about it

I thought Abomination was fine in an otherwise generic movie and the weakest of the MCU. Glad he got brought back, there's potential there still

...but man, if Shang Chi beats up abomination when it took a lot out of the Hulk to do it, I don't know if I can handle that kind of power level boost

I'm not even Asian, but is anything not starring a white dude pandering?

Some of you really want an Avengers movie starring Iron Man, Cap, Thor, Hawkeye, Spiderman, Star Lord, Winter Soldier, Loki (multiple variants minus black one), Dr Strange

One was a series against the prime spurs they had no business being up. One his best teammate blake griffin got hurt and one he himself got hurt.

My order:

Falcon>wanda>black widow>loki. The last 2 are close and could swap

Falcon was far from perfect. The villains were super lame. The leads were good. Zemo, US Agent and Isaiah bradley were good supporting characters. Finale speech was corny but I did dig the captain america suit. Walker vs sam and bucky was a great fight, maybe the fight of phase 4

Wandavision gets points for creativity and suspense. The suspense is better than the actual story. Wanda and vision are a great duo. Supporting characters aside from Agnes suck. Ending was ok at best

Black Widow is fun beginning to end. You can't shake that it is late and taskmaster sucks (they really should have used another villain in this movie). Widow's family kill it. Had great action. Ending was abrupt.

Loki is very polarizing. The rest felt like contained stories and this felt like an advertisement for the future. I did like the ending and the reveal but some parts in between were filler (that train episode). Time travel always come off as bs to me

Marvel has dropped 4 things this year. Which did you like most? I've enjoyed all of them I guess, nothing reaches their top tier but nothing in their bottom tier either. I guess falcon is my favorite, I'm probably in the minority and acknowledge it is a mess in places (Karli/Sharon) but it was consistently fun with great side characters

Yeah I believe the budgets of the 3 shows were in line with movies

So I don't think he'd do the series for $600,000

The ending was fine but the show was very uneven and to me the weakest of the 3 shows.

It gives me Age of Ultron vibes, the immediate product suffered but it set up a lot of things going forward

I'd say the list of decent to good villains

Red skull kind of before he became a floaty guy

Ultron though he could have been more

Dormammu/Surtur. Not amazing villains but cool enough as giant cgi monsters

Falcon was all around fun time with 2 good leads, some amazing side characters in John Walker/Zemo and some good scenes from Isaiah Bradley. Karli and Sharon sucked

Wandavision had 2 great leads, an ok villain and meh everyone else. The suspense was better than the resolution but plus points for originality.

Black Widow, loved the family, Red Guardian and Yelena killed it. Some of the best fight scenes in the MCU. They completely botched Taskmaster.

Not just Yelena but even Milena is better

If you like Black Widow then watch Infinity War and Endgame to see the rest of Widow's story play out

Fine Karli is worse, taskmaster did look good in fights.

Both villains were lame. I say taskmaster is worse. Karl is D lister in source material too but taskmaster is pretty cool in comics

Marvel had gotten good at their trailers not spoiling too much but here they pretty much gave the movie away.

I will say falcon and the winter soldier was better

Yeah it lands in the middle for me. Not the heights of endgame, iw, ragnarok but not in the low tier of hulk, thor 1/2

Where Loki

5/6 episodes so far. I am not as high on it, the last episode will determine where it lands

I know it can be difficult to compare shows to movies but I got more out of those 2 shows. The action in the shows does not compare. I will admit that but Black Widow I felt had good action even by MCU standards so that isn't a knock on the shows.

Loki I won't rate yet because it still has one episode left. Could go either way.

I still enjoyed Black Widow, Red guardian and Yelena were highlights. Taskmaster was the lowlight. Was Taskmaster worse than Karli? I have to think on that.

I give it 2.5 but since that is not an option I will give it the generous 3 star.

It falls into that mid tier of MCU movies with the likes of the first captain America, Ant Man
