I love ice cream. Cakes are fine. Cookies, it depends a lot on the type of cookie. Pastries I can mostly do without, because they aren't worth it to me. Sweets/candies I generally stay away from. Chocolates (esp. dark) are great in tiny portions.

I do enjoy chocolate covered fruits, though.

edit: I don't really care for biscuits, pies, gelatins, or puddings.

But it's silly how teams like Alabama can win half their games every season just by showing up.

yeah, if you showed me a picture of "King Arthur" I doubt i would be able to identify it unless it's the Disney character or someone pulling a sword out of a stone. There's no "canonical" look for him, unlike every other character on this list.

Add in the fact that it's a very Britain-centric legend, and I would guess he doesn't even make the top 500, honestly.

I would also like to know who Nanis thinks is more globally well-known than Mickey Mouse.

Steins;Gate (PS3)

Took me a while to sort out my thoughts on this visual novel. This is really my first ever "pure" VN, and it was an interesting experience. I'm pretty sure that I liked it, but there are a lot of qualifiers on thatit's a very flawed experience.

First, one of the strongest points about this game is the science fiction aspect. I'm not super into science fiction, but the science in the game is explained at a level that is understandable to a layperson, without traveling too far down any rabbit holes or overly obsessing on the details. It's very accessible.

The other strong point is the "true ending" storyline, which resolves in a satisfying way. Some of the side endings are also nice and fun, even if they don't always make sense. Unfortunately, the "true ending" is locked away behind the silly and convoluted phone email system, which makes it a chore and practically impossible to get on a natural playthrough. It would have been a lot more impactful to just have that be the normal ending, or to at least make the trigger something in the endgame so you don't have to start over again to get it. I wasted an hour or two making different game choices before finally just consulting a guide.

I get that they want to reward you for "work" or whatever, but making some of the most impactful scenes hidden behind arbitrary/invisible choices robs them of a lot of their significance. For instance, I waited the whole entire game to see the resolution of Chekhov's Jellyman, only to discover during the 100% cleanup that I missed the only Jellyman scene because I didn't call the right person at a certain time. By that time, I had already seen Mayuri die dozens of times, so the scene had zero emotional impact.

I generally dislike anime because of certain aesthetic and thematic tropes, and while this game avoids a lot of them, the tropes it embraces are some of the worst thematic ones. The inclusion of some of these (the "trap" character and nonstop normalized sexual harassment of female characters) threatens to ruin what is generally a very good story. The catgirl crap, while also annoying, is at least tolerable in comparison.

The storyline twists were a mixed bag. I feel like most of them are very heavily foreshadowed, so much so that Okabe kind of comes off like an oblivious idiot for not noticing them. Of course Suzuha is a time traveler, and of course Moeka is an untrustworthy person who never should have been allowed to send a D-mail. The only things I did not really see coming were Mayuri's death, which of course was designed to be shocking, and FB's identity, which was not very important in the end. On the positive side, there were a few plot points that I deduced only a minute before they happened, which is really the perfect way to design a good twist.

I wish the last chapter was a little less contrived. I had been waiting since the prologue to see how the time-travel questions there would be resolved, and was hoping it would be Okabe and his friends coming up with some way to save Kurisu. So when it just turned out to be "Suzuha time travels again and tells him what to do" I was disappointed. I still really liked it, but I felt like the problems were mostly conveniently solved off-screen.

Still, as I said at the beginning, I overall liked the game. I had no expectations going in, and did not expect to come to enjoy many of the characters like I did. I understand why it's such a popular time-travel story.

I don't really mind when an anime gets a crappy live-action US adaption out of the blue. The anime is still there when it's all said and done, and you didn't want a live-action US version anyway.

It's much more upsetting when books get a crappy live-action adaption, because you hoped the books would get a great adaption and now your hopes are dashed, maybe forever. And worse, the crappy adaption is now what people think of when they hear about the book.

Jak 3 (PS3)

I played the first two Jak games on PS2 when they were new. It was my brother's system and he moved out, taking the thing with him. So I never got around to the third game.

I bought the Jak PS3 collection for myself in 2012, but after playing through the first two games, I think I was just kind of tired of Jak games. I played maybe an hour of Jak 3 before I decided to take a break for a little while. That break ended up taking 10 years.

I came back to it finally this year, as part of my goal to finish all my ps3 disc games. I started the game over, and this time it was fresh enough that I made my way through it pretty quickly. I enjoyed it! I'm not sure if it's better than Jak II and it's certainly not better than the first game, but it probably is easier than either of them. Much more forgiving checkpoints this time, although a couple of missions still had some frustratingly long periods between saves.

The twists/reveals in the story were very predictable, except for the precursor thing which was completely out of left field.

Puppeteer (PS3)

I was prepared not to like this game very much, but to my surprise, I actually really liked it. It's a side-scrolling action platformer that came out pretty late in the PS3's lifespan. Sony Japan put it together, and clearly there was a lot of effort involved. It's gorgeous to look at, it's got a great style, and the English localization is very polished.

The game is presented as if everything is taking place on the stage of a Japanese puppet theater. The story revolves around the moon kingdom, which has been taken over by the animals of the Chinese zodiac. Their leader, an evil bear, captures the souls of dreaming children to enslave and devour them. One child, Kutaro, escapes his clutches but loses his head in the process. You control that child as he travels the moon, defeating the evil zodiac animals and collecting shards that will bring back the moon goddess and restore light to the moon.

Since Kutaro lost his head, he has to collect other puppet heads in order to stay alive. Each hit causes him to lose a head, but he can keep a couple spares. He also gains a few magical abilities throughout the game, the most important of which is a pair of scissors that can cut through most things. The scissors are used to defeat enemies, but more importantly also as a way to cut through fabric to traverse the stage. Most stages end with a boss that you will use Kutaro's skills (and a series of quick-time events at the end) to defeat.

The game is split up into 7 "acts" that each have a different theme (e.g. western, Halloween). Every stage is lengthy and unique and filled to the brim with detail and interesting things to interact with. As Kutaro travels through each stage, there is a constant narrator that tells the story, but also many other characters that are all professionally voiced. Just be prepared to sit through a couple hours of cut-scenes by the time you're done.

Although playing the game is not particularly difficult or interesting, I was impressed with the production of it and the story ended up being very enjoyable. It's a very charming game.

I'm actually surprised that there are some hardcore point-click fans who praise this game and hold it in high regard. Most probably nostalgia goggles at work. Coming 3 years after Broken Sword 1, even if it was one of the first "3d" adventures (which is what fans often boast about) it was still shite.

I have played the second game and yes it is more of the same. But more than anything I hate that the game's story just keeps finding reasons for the main character to remain in Syberia, utterly destroying what little character she's had. I honestly don't recommend it and just watch a Let's Play or something.

As for me, I hear that there's a 4th game now or something. And I am morbidly curious how the 3rd one plays. I hear alot of flak for it even amongst the fans.

Yes I felt like I was missing something because I had also heard some praise for the game from fans of the genre. But it didn't get better, unfortunately. I think I might have the third one in my library as well.

Syberia (PS3)

This is an adventure game that has aged just incredibly poorly. I'm not really sure if it still has a point in 2022. The game I'm sure was a novelty 20 years ago. It is set in a painstakingly pre-rendered world that looks a lot better than most games that existed at that time. That's really the only notable thing about it. The voice-acting is not-good, the story is seriously boring, and most of the characters are disembodied voices on the main character Kate's phone. For some reason, they decided to have most of the story take place on the phone, maybe because the artists didn't want to animate any more characters? It's really dumb and just highlights how poor the voice acting is, Kate's in particular.

The world feels dead. It's not unusual for these older adventure games to have fewer characters, but because of how large and grand these pre-rendered areas are, they end up feeling cold and empty, almost like a mausoleum.

The PC version was point and click, but the adapted controls on console are super janky. Kate is always bumping into invisible, uneven barriers. It would have worked better if they kept it as point and click with the controller. The puzzles are nothing to write home about. Slightly below average for adventure games, with a lot of them reliant on backtracking and trying things until they work.

Some of the full motion video still looks kind of neat after all this time, with the automatons. I will give it that.

I have the second game too, and I hear it's more of the same. After this, I doubt I am going to play it.

This is a 2D stealth puzzle platformer. I disliked the game at first, but once I stopped going for 'S' ranks on every level it became a lot more enjoyable. Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep: A Wonderlands One-shot Adventure (PS4)

I absolutely loved Borderlands 2. It was a fantastic game for one player or four players or anything between. I wrapped it up in 2019, coming back only for the free yet lackluster DLC that came out ahead of Borderlands 3.

Revisiting the game for this standalone bite-sized piece was really fun at first. So fun, it made me seriously consider doing the whole BL2 things again for real. But, by the time I finished, that urge was gone. I might play Borderlands 2 again, but not for a while at least. I got my fix here.

I think that the Dragon Keep DLC is still probably the best one from Borderlands 2, but it still has some flaws. The level design for the mines and dungeon areas is pretty bad. The dialogue/narration at the beginning gets really old after you play a few different characters. Despite it all, I had a fun time, though.
