It used to be illegal for black people and women to vote or to drink alcohol. I had an open offer to the community that anyone who actually wanted to re-translate BNW would have any help they needed from me and that we'd offer their "vanilla" patch as an optional translation. It was, quite simply, a bluff I never expected to be called on given that anyone who ever expressed interest in it saw the amount of work that would be involved and nope'd right the fuck out. You can't just slap vanilla's script onto BNW and call it a day - it would break a lot of things and there'd me a lot more that would just be factually incorrect with what's changed in Brave New World. The "vanilla" patch is literally just Brave New World with a personality-ectomy - a dude went through the script, looked for any line that could possibly be considered interesting, and reverted it to the "style" of vanilla by making it as bland as possible. I hate the vanilla patch with every fiber of my being. It was made for a vocal minority of people who will bitch about a mod for having the audacity to be different at all - a group of people I had no interest in ever appealing to in the first place. It bothers me not because it exists, but because it's widely misrepresented as something it's not: Brave New World but with the game's original (and, let's face it, completely garbage) script. And that's not what it is at all. Even if disabled via the registry, it can only be stopped entirely via deleting or renaming the directory where the process lives. Timeline, similarly, can be turned off in the settings, but can only be fully disabled via the registry. These on their own are not of particular import. The significant point is that Windows 10's telemetery service - DiagTrack - can not be disabled via the settings and MUST be disabled via the registry. Finally, there's Windows Update. Windows Updates have been known to continually undo changes such as the ones mentioned above, and the fact that Windows Updates can not be disabled by the end user in an easy manner, any OTHER steps you take to disable intrusive policies don't really matter. Automatic Updates can, in theory, be disabled via registry hacks. However, the behavior of the WUpdate process itself is highly suspicious. In short, you can disable the service all you want. Windows will let you think it's been shut off for good. What will actually happen is that a SECOND process which can't be disabled will just necro the Windows Update Process every 24 hours or so. It's particularly deceitful and the kind of behavior that "legitimate" software should not employ. Your two options for killing the Update process permanently are to assign it improper credentials so that it can't log in or download Windows Update Blocker. Timeline is basically Cortana's (oh, fuck off, censors) little brother: same invasive bullshit with a new look and name, as if we can't all tell it's just Cortana with a fake mustache and a wig. Joking aside, the short answer of what Timeline does is RECORD EVERYTHING YOU DO ON YOUR COMPUTER, which should be alarming even before you consider that Windows 10 also has a service called DiagTrack (renamed in a 2015 update to the less sinister-sounding "Connected User Experiences And Telemetry Service") which quietly sends data back to Microsoft. Assuming you run the batch file from the folder it came in, everything should be there and that check will pass. I recently picked up a laptop with Windows 10 on it and... well, anyone who knows me knows that breaking Windows is kind of a hobby of mine. As there seemed to be a good deal of interest in everything I was doing, I decided to go ahead and write up a script for people. http://abusemynipples.biz/misc/win10.zip This is a rough (and hopefully final) draft of my script. In addition to the standard disclaimer of "you're hacking your operating system, maybe make a backup first?" there's also the fact that this is, again, a rough draft. I've tested it pretty thoroughly on my own system, but that doesn't mean it's not possible for me to miss something.
