I love how you have these self aware jokes in BNW. So when the guy said I can reset my game to get that info for free, I said to myself "fuck it, i'm over leveling and have half a million GP he can have it!"

Though I did not realize the conversation restarts if you talk to him again so I might have paid his ass twice.

Well, what happens is a guy says he has some important info to find treasure. You pay him 100,000 dollars for it. In this mod of the game BTB added in the guy saying "Now go and reset your game so you can get this info for free" and in that moment I decided to keep it as is because the self awareness was too real.

I felt called out, and it worked!

He only takes your money once.

I just realized that you're playing an older version since that doesn't happen anymore in 2.0.

A LOT has changed in the current update. 1.9 is trash compared to it.

probably not going to upgrade any time soon since I am very far into it though i would when I play this again which I assume I will do within a few years.

So BTB I was curious what level do you think is good enough to beat the game with?

I love over levelling so while I am probably 3/4ths of the way done with the world of ruin I am all level 35-45. I know level isnt everything in this game and you need to use skill and strategy moreso than in the vanilla game, but what would you say?

I just really want to see what you say even if I am going to level the fuck out of my characters regardless because grinding is a disease.

You're expected to beat the game around your mid to late 30's. A lot of vets like beating the game AT 30. Wouldn't recommend doing so any lower.

I'm not even playing the current version(1.9 vs 2.0) but I can say this is definitely worth it. I havent played vanilla FF6 in like 20 years, but just seeing some of the changes over the original make me think this is absolutely the way to play the game.

People talk about a game like FF8 being broken but it appears vanilla FF6 was too(though, good characters and story can make up for it whereas FF8....ehhhh)(ps i still love ff8 despite it) to a large degree. Attributes not really doing what they should, needing to lowest level game it to get the most out of Espers, etc. Takes care of all that shit, and 2.0 as I was reading takes it a step further. Game is also more challenging(compared to vanilla FF6 which apparently is very easy) I hear, which is good. A lot of these boss fights take time and skill rather than just brute force. I like it. Its challenging but not hard. Hard work will get you through it just fine.

The only real complaints I could see anybody having are the Dialog changes that have added in referenced and BTB charm. You can revert back to vanilla dialog if you want. And some of the items are a little "meme-y" such as the Red Bull Item curing 200 HP and giving your character float. But I was never that attached to vanilla FF6 to care about the Dialog, and in places it is hilarious. The items I think are a nice touch too.

This is 100% not true and something I need to address. I had an open offer to the community that anyone who actually wanted to re-translate BNW would have any help they needed from me and that we'd offer their "vanilla" patch as an optional translation. It was, quite simply, a bluff I never expected to be called on given that anyone who ever expressed interest in it saw the amount of work that would be involved and nope'd right the fuck out.

You can't just slap vanilla's script onto BNW and call it a day - it would break a lot of things and there'd me a lot more that would just be factually incorrect with what's changed in Brave New World. The "vanilla" patch is literally just Brave New World with a personality-ectomy - a dude went through the script, looked for any line that could possibly be considered interesting, and reverted it to the "style" of vanilla by making it as bland as possible.

I hate the vanilla patch with every fiber of my being. It was made for a vocal minority of people who will bitch about a mod for having the audacity to be different at all - a group of people I had no interest in ever appealing to in the first place. It bothers me not because it exists, but because it's widely misrepresented as something it's not: Brave New World but with the game's original (and, let's face it, completely garbage) script. And that's not what it is at all. It's an attempt to make Brave New World look like something it very much is not.

tl;dr please don't use the vanilla patch.

Sorry, it's a... touchy subject for me. Seeing someone stream Brave New World and then finding out they're using the vanilla patch is like taking off the blindfold and realizing that the person you're fucking is your mom.
