In my view, it has a more interesting world than its contemporaries, the music is flawless, and the minigames are excellent (even if tetra master is a bit difficult to comprehend at first). 100% agree with your opinion. FFIX is not only my favorite FF game of all time, it's my favorite game of all time, for the reasons exactly stated in your post. The whole point of Final Fantasy, for me, is that its meant to be fantastical. FFIX had so many non-human and wonderful characters and creatures spread throughout the game, and the whole aesthetic of the world was so fairy-tale-esque and old style. I want to go with Classic because apparently its more tactical (although i didn't notice this in the demo), also it will be easier so I can enjoy the story part, and then try Normal on a second run through.
