The general consensus is that these things are useless yet a few times I've popped open a stall to see the cover still sitting there and a few times I've seen pieces of toilet paper carefully placed all along the seat to cover it just left in place.

We are work buds but I feel like the shoes are an elephant in the room but I have never brought them up. He is like 5'6 by my guess and the shoes raise him up to maybe 5'8" or something. I'm 6'1" so he goes from being around 7 inches shorter than me to being around 5 inches shorter than me.

Hell this conversation about baseball was more memorable than 99% of Mass Effect Andromeda to me.



The factions, the companions, the random ass weird interactions and questlines you can find out in the wastelands it was all so so so much better than Mass Effect Andromeda that my nostalgic brain is now thinking of Fallout 4 as a 9.5/10 while at the time I thought it was an 8/10.

I would be against implementing it where I live but I would be open to it if it succeeds in other states/countries.

The potential pitfalls are obvious. If you pay people to do nothing will they still be as willing to work?

The one saving grace of it I can imagine is that it could possibly induce some people to keep looking for work instead of making disability claims. In the US we have a problem with the disability program in that the number of disabled people rises when unemployment rises and people that get on disability very rarely leave it because it is an all or nothing thing. You can't start working at Denny's or Walmart and still collect your disability check. So we have situations where there are counties in west virginia and Kentucky where the rate of people collecting disability is 5-10 times the rate of states like Colorado or California.

I don't actually believe that somebody has pissed in the gene pool of people that happen to live in poor counties across the US (or Puerto Rico). It is an issue where they have run out of their allowed unemployment and have rolled the dice and made a claim for some invisible ailment that there is no objective test for.

I've been analyzing the lyrics to the song "Hit 'em Up". It is a bit cerebral but if you read between the lines you can see that Tupac was saying some pretty inflammatory stuff.

Lets examine a few lines

Now if you view these lines on their own they are fairly harmless but when you put them side by side like this you can draw some pretty significant conclusions.

I would hope so. We are talking about a high end console that hasn't been released vs most pcs.

Most PCs couldn't keep up with the 360 or the PS3 graphics wise the year those consoles came out either.

Yes and no.

Active duty military pensions are fucking ridiculous. If you get to 20 years they start paying out immediately and for the rest of your life (even if you joined at 17 years old and retire at 37) and its pretty damn generous.

Basically if you are wiling to stick it out you can do your twenty and have a pension the rest of your life that will cover the basics along with giving you permanent access to base facilities anywhere in the world, health care, and other perks.

But generally people can't just stay in the military into old age. The oldest person I've knew in the military was a guy that spent a good chunk of time in the Army as enlisted (up to E-7 Sergeant First Class) and then he switched over to Warrant Officer (google it if you don't know what this is) and worked his way up to CW-5. At his retirement ceremony even the officers and Sergeant Major talked about him being the oldest guy they had served with.

And a 16:36 2 mile run is easy, too.

You'll be fiiiine.

I failed 0 PRTs during my entire time in the service.

Its easy if you are doing PT 5 times a week but I saw plenty of people fail the run when because of deployments, shift work, or details they were on they weren't required to do PT in the mornings for a long stretch of time. They almost always ended up working their way back up to the level where they could pass it.

And of course there are the people that ride profiles and end up just digging a hole for themselves. Can't run because of a profile then at the end of the profile they can't run because they are fat and then they feel like they are going to die in a formation run so they go and get another profile and on it goes until they get discharged.

By the end.

I went to a fairly long AIT (7 months) and basically they would just make the people that were failing to hit 60/60/60 on their PT test do extra PT in the afternoons after classes and they weren't allowed to wear civilian clothes or go off base either.

Explanations like this make sense but they ignore a few things.

1. African Americans have disproportionately benefited from many government programs for generations. Public housing, healthcare, financial assistance for low income people, Affirmative action.

2. The achievement gap exists around the world not just here- It is tempting to point at an explanation like this and say "eureka! I've found the reason for the gap!" but what about the rest of the world? If we ask ourselves "well Ok, if we tripled public spending on housing, education, and provided free health care would it put people on an even footing and close the achievement gap between racial groups" and we can go look at other countries and immediately and find that the answer is a definitive "Nope".

I'm not saying we shouldn't try but be realistic in your expectations of what would actually happen if we ramped up affirmative action into overdrive or even gave direct reparations to certain groups.
