I had (and still have) a Sega Genesis (with Sega CD) during 1994.... NOT a SNES.
During 1994, I got hyped from this music and intro:

Streets of Rage 2 (intro):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIPjPTnH3Gc

and I got crazy with joy when I saw this (Shinobi 3: The Return of the Ninja Master):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrX0kOUybno

And felt chills when I heard this (Phantasy Star 3: Generations of Doom):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jqa3YCpD1K8

and jumped in joy over this (Sonic 2):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMRW1nEtb7I

Of course, Genesis had very awesome support from Konami during 1994.
I loved playing this Genesis exclusive (Castlevania: Bloodlines):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_9osjZIyS8

and Contra : Hard Corps, another Konami exclusive for Genesis (granted, this game was freaking way too damn hard, but nice game):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xx7_HZZF3_w

And of course, I played Capcom's Street Fighter 2: Champion edition on Genesis during 1994 on my six button Genesis controller:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7lq6jztCyQ

1994 was a good year.
I also had the Sega CD (attached to the Genesis) and during 1994, I loved playing RPG's like Lunar: Silver Star Story:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiLLN5U9w2U

and VAY (another Sega CD RPG):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNvK0OBxNiI

and Snatcher (a text adventure / RPG style game... I even had the Justifier gun which I used during the shooting scenes):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZuyUShtcn94

Sega Genesis with Sega CD was a damn great combo during 1994.

Actually the one I played the most was a Mega Drive game called Zero Wing, most well known for its hilarious translation, one of which is "All your base are belong to us"

Except I lived in Korea back in the days and had the Japanese version. Had no idea what it said and always skipped it of course

Genesis wise, I actually don't remember the titles, but Thunder Force wasn't one of them sadly

Lmfao I got modded for saying I suck dicks at. It's just a phrase. It doesn't mean anything. Too bad that doesn't mean anything for them either. I do wonder about them sometimes. I wonder if their private parts shrink so hard that it creates some sort of a vortex. A vortex that sucks the goods in the world and turns it into the cesspool that it is today

This is true, Sonic 2 did come out during 1992. However, I didn't play Sonic 2 till early 1994 (I didn't get the Sega Genesis till December of 1992 (it came with the original Sonic), I was a little late.... but I did get the Sega CD at the same time WITH my Sega Genesis during December of 1992..... NOT a bad add-on when you get past some of the shitty FMV games and get to the great stuff, like RPG's like Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, Action RPG's like Popful Mail, and text adventure point and click style action RPG's like Rise of the Dragon. Some of the action orientated games like the sequel to Eternal Champions on Sega CD were also really great.
As for Sonic and Knuckles, I got that AND Sonic 3 during 1995, so I eventually caught up on the series, despite being late.

Sega Genesis had some really enjoyable RPGs.
While not as good as Shining Force 2 (that was released during 1995) I remember playing the original Shining Force on Sega Genesis during 1994 and that was a GREAT time. Such a great game:

I also remember playing Landstalker during 1994.... such an awesome action RPG for Sega Genesis. I love this game. One of my top favorite games of the entire 16-bit era of gaming:

Playstation wasn't released till September 1995 outside of Japan.
Playstation released in JAPAN ONLY during December 3rd, 1994, but it was more of a TEST launch than a real launch (1995 was when the WORLDWIDE launch took place).

Also, the JAPAN ONLY December 3rd test launch only had really ONE main attraction.... RIDGE RACER. That was the ONLY game during the December 1994 Japanese ONLY test launch that actually utilized the power of the 32-bit Playstation.

All the other games released during December 3rd 1994 in JAPAN ONLY during the TEST launch were Japanese ONLY releases like TWO different Mahjong games (I can't find footage of the original 1994 games, but this is the latest one for PS4.... this is NOT something that shows off the power of a new system and NOT something that appeals to most people outside Japan (hell, this is rather niche even IN Japan):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tv8-5kijUg

Another 1994 game released during the Japan only TEST launch was Gokuju Parodius Da! Deluxe Pack.....
This is a 2D shooter that looks like it can easily run on the 16-bit systems (SNES, Sega Genesis, etc. Keio Flying Squadron on Sega CD has similar graphics)... it definitely doesn't show off the power of 32-bit Playstation (granted, it is a fun game if you like 2D shooters):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GDpsxH7SGo

There were a FEW other games released during the December 1994 TEST launch, but the ONLY game that actually utilized the 32-bits of the original Playstation was Ridge Racer.... it wasn't till the September 1995 WORLD WIDE launch when they had a bunch of games that showed off the 3D tech of the 32-bit Playstation.

1994 was a great year for football on my Sega Genesis.
Both these games came out late 1993, but I played them during 1994.

Joe Montana II: Sports Talk Football.... Sega Genesis exclusive.
That was a freaking awesome football game:

Even better was Mutant League Football (which was Sega Genesis exclusive). This game ROCKED!!! This is my FAVORITE football game of the entire 16-bit generation.

Another Sega Genesis masterpiece that came out during 1994 was Crusader of Centy.
It's like Zelda (with a little Secret of Mana thrown in), but it's still VERY, VERY good (and it has a rather shocking mature plot twist later in the game. The game starts innocent, but does something rather controversial later on).

Crusader of Centy for Sega Genesis (an amazing game):

Did you have the X-band online modem for either SNES or Genesis when you were younger?
I never had that, but I remember seeing the commercial for it for SNES and Genesis (which I will post below).

During 1994 when it first came out, you could play certain SNES and Genesis games online using X-band (Madden being one of them). I WISH I had this when I was younger (would have been awesome to play games like Madden and Mortal Kombat on Genesis online), but my parents didn't get me an X-band..... most parents didn't buy this for their kids since this thing didn't sell well (a lot of people didn't understand the concept of online gaming at the time, despite this commercial explaining it very well):

I remember reading about this in magazines at the time during late 1994 or so.
Yeah, I didn't understand what the internet or online gaming was at the time (despite the magazines attempting to explain it), so I ignored the X-band. If I knew what online gaming did at the time, I probably would have bugged my parents to buy me one of these.
Also, I don't remember ever seeing that commercial for X-band on TV, but that is a cool commercial.

We know, it's just that many of us didn't have a SNES growing up, we had a Sega Genesis. Looking back at 1994, it seemed like almost half the kids in my school had a SNES and almost the other half had a Genesis. It was almost 50 / 50.
Both systems were very popular at the time and most kids only had one system (either the SNES or Sega Genesis) since their parents didn't have enough money to buy them both.

I say almost 50 / 50 since there was ONE girl I knew who had a Turbografx-16 with the CD (I use to talk to her all the time about YS 1 and 2 for the Turbo CD. I never had a Turbografx-16 or the Turbo CD growing up, but I had the Sega Master System and had YS 1 on it and had YS 3 on Sega Genesis, so I knew a good amount about YS). But she was literally ONE person out of close to a thousand kids who didn't have either a SNES or Sega Genesis but had one of the other systems out at the time.

Strangely enough, there was ONE kid who CLAIMED he had a Neo Geo, but none of us believed him since the Neo Geo games were $200 each (which is insane since games for all other systems cost about $50 on average back then). He could NEVER supply proof of any type either.

I didn't know anyone at my school who owned an Atari Jaguar.... NO one at my school owned an Atari Jaguar (I knew ONE guy who owned an Atari Jaguar but he was an adult who was in his late 20's / early 30's who lived in my apartment building... definitely NOT a kid). I knew NO one who owned a 3DO or the CD-i.

When I look back at it all, I was extremely lucky to be born into a family that really freaking loved video games. (2 brothers, 3 sisters, and my dad....we all played video games passionately...still do actually. My mom was the only one that sucked at them, lol). Because of this, we pretty much owned every relevant console at the time. (the nes, genesis, and sega cd was my older bro's, the super nintendo, playstation 1, nintendo 64, and gameboy was mine).

But yeah, I barely knew anyone that had a jaguar, and turbo graphix 16 back in the day. The only single person I knew that had a neo geo was a cousin of mine on my dad's side on the family, and they were pretty comfortably upper middle class. Majority of the fam. and friends had a genesis since it was cheaper overall compared to the snes.

I grew up with Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, and Nintendo Gameboy during my early years. During the 8-bit era, my father picked out the Sega Master System. I remember asking for an NES since that was the system 98% of everyone else at school had during the 8-bit era, but I'm glad he picked out the Sega Master system for two reasons:

1) Almost EVERYONE (officially, I read it was 90% of gamers in the U.S during the late 80's) had a NES during the 8-bit era.... so whenever I went to someone else's house to hang out, I would play stuff like Super Mario 3, Ikari Warriors, Mike Tyson's Punch Out, Duck Tales and many other NES games for HOURS (and almost all the games were great fun.... except Friday the 13th. My cousin had that game on NES and I remember hating it, but I loved all of his other games). So it felt good to go home and play on Sega Master System, which was something different that no one else I knew had.

2) I was a huge fan of Sega's arcade games at the time and use to play them like crazy whenever I went to an arcade and the Sega Master System had TONS of ports of Sega's arcade games (even if they were watered down 8-bit ports, they were still fun).

In regards to portables, I was given a choice between Nintendo Gameboy and the Atari Lynx (Sega Game Gear came out a few years later, so it wasn't one of my choices).... despite the attractive color screen the Atari Lynx had, I very wisely picked Gameboy since I wanted to play Super Mario Land

Also, many of the Nintendo Gameboy games released later (like Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening, which is my most favorite Gameboy game of all time) were a LOT of fun

For the 16-bit era, I went with Sega Genesis since there was an official convertor released for that system that let anyone with a Genesis play Master System games on it. Due to the backwards compatibility and the Genesis having Phantasy Star 2, a game I wanted to play badly after beating Phantasy Star 1 on Master System, the Genesis was my main choice over the SNES. Also, Genesis had Sonic and I had to play Sonic after seeing this commercial:

As for the other systems:
I NEVER owned a Turbografx-16 as a kid, but I did play a good amount of Turbografx-16 at my local Toys R'Us. They had all three 16 bit systems on display... there were LONG lines for the Sega Genesis and SNES displays, but there was NEVER a line for Turbografx-16, so I use to play Air Zonk at the Turbografx-16 display at Toys R'Us with NO one behind me.... which was cool because Air Zonk was a great game and I had it all to myself:

As for SNES, I knew A LOT of people with a SNES, so I use to play games like Mario Kart over at different friend's houses.
Also, I knew A LOT of kids my age with a Genesis (it was VERY popular, just like the SNES), so we use to borrow each others games
As for Atari, I knew ONE kid who had an Atari 2600 during the early 90's (which was a system WAY past it's prime at that point). Playing Frogger at his house was fun.

Remember playing madden 94 online? So confusing.

Sega supported the X-band A LOT more than Nintendo (which comes at no surprise since Sega had online multiplayer for a few of it's NetLink compatible games like Duke Nukem 3D for the Sega Saturn during the late 90's and Nintendo took FOREVER to accept online gaming). Sega also had the Sega channel, where you could download Sega Genesis games online and even Genesis game demos to try out the first levels of certain games:

Sega Channel for Sega Genesis even had some digital download game EXCLUSIVES.... like the Sega Genesis Sega Channel exclusive Mega Man: The Wily Wars:

I had (and still have) a Sega Genesis (with Sega CD) during 1994.... NOT a SNES.
During 1994, I got hyped from this music and intro:

Streets of Rage 2 (intro):

and I got crazy with joy when I saw this (Shinobi 3: The Return of the Ninja Master):

And felt chills when I heard this (Phantasy Star 3: Generations of Doom):

and jumped in joy over this (Sonic 2):

Of course, Genesis had very awesome support from Konami during 1994.
I loved playing this Genesis exclusive (Castlevania: Bloodlines):

and Contra : Hard Corps, another Konami exclusive for Genesis (granted, this game was freaking way too damn hard, but nice game):

And of course, I played Capcom's Street Fighter 2: Champion edition on Genesis during 1994 on my six button Genesis controller:

1994 was a good year.
I also had the Sega CD (attached to the Genesis) and during 1994, I loved playing RPG's like Lunar: Silver Star Story:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiLLN5U9w2U

and VAY (another Sega CD RPG):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KNvK0OBxNiI

and Snatcher (a text adventure / RPG style game... I even had the Justifier gun which I used during the shooting scenes):

Sega Genesis with Sega CD was a damn great combo during 1994.

The feels. Sega Genesis was also my console at the time
