Well there is a bump, just not in year 1. In year 2 once you get the 5% pay bump, you start making more. But it's lame to get a promotion and actually make less

Just as a reference point. I got level 3 recently in the Denver metro area and here the salary ranges are required to be listed and the bottom of the range was actually a bit less than I make now but the promotion ended up being a 23k raise because the actual amount I got was closer to the middle.

Just because you see a listed range for a job doesn't mean that is actually a realistic minimum.

This is the elephant in the room. Traditionally unemployed people have taken open jobs. Something happened/ is happening during the pandemic that is caused a large number of people across many countries basically drop out of the workforce.

This was actually one of the very first lessons in basic training in the Army. The Army patrol caps come with a straight brim and the Drill Sgts tell you to bend it so you don't look like a moron.

This feels bad to reveal but my old grandfather that was in WW2 and was generally a tough guy without any health problems his whole life until he had a stroke at about 91 and lived to 94 and slowly regained function between 91-94 back to the point where he was walking and talking almost like he did before then he died of another stroke and my grandmother randomly told my Dad and I at dinner after he died that he would wake up crying afraid that he was going to die at any moment after the first stroke and she would have to sing him to sleep.

She was old and fairly senile but it did hit me hard to hear that. He was your classic stoic strong guy but feeling that weak made it hard to keep up his walls apparently. If she hadn't told us that we all would have thought he was fearless going to the end but she just felt the need for some reason to tell us that he wasn't. It was a single conversation but how do you forget something like that?

Honestly? I don't think there was much gas left in the tank with the end of the main franchise.

In the military it actually is mandatory every year and sometimes more often but I wouldn't support it being mandatory for civilians for two big reasons.

1. The Flu is a lot less deadly than covid.
2. The Flu vaccine is a lot less effective than the covid vaccine in most years.

I've always been partial to the OICW and XM8

They were cool and seemed futuristic but realistically they weren't enough better than M4's with 203 launchers, particularly the M8. Ultimately a lot of concerns about m4's jamming were fixed with better magazines and the M4s they currently issue are about as basic and extensible as you can get for an assault rifle.

If you are up to it I would invest in yourself and go back to school to get a job that pays more than 40k a year.

They also lost about 2/3 of their stock price from before to after the release. It was a huge flop from a company that only makes one real flagship title every 4-5 years. Its going to hurt them severely.

Having educated parents is a bigger factor. People that grow up in an environment with two college educated professional parents don't realize how much of a bonus they have on basic tests like the SATs.

I dropped out of high school and joined the Army after slacking and not doing any school work as a junior or senior. I scored in the top 1 or 2% on the SAT, GED, and ASVAB mostly just because I grew up with a lawyer for a mom and a mechanical engineer for a Dad that met while they were both in grad school at UC Berkeley.

Way ahead of you boss.

Fun fact the Phillipines actually has people that look black. They are probably the original settlers of some of the islands and are called "negritos" (little black person in Spanish) because they are very short, even compared to most Filipinos.

I could see them doing something like saying that they are part black from the such and such isles and part Valyrian. From the perspective of the Targaryens the fact that they aren't from westeros is less important than the fact that they are Valyrian.

That being said the TC is right that this family isn't black in the books. With all the info dumps on minor characters and minor houses in the books its the sort of thing that Martin would have mentioned.

It's been awhile since I played it but I'm pretty sure Loghain was close by when Duncan said only a Grey Warden could defeat the Archdemon.

Its made pretty clear that the Grey Warden's hide the true nature of their connection to the dark spawn. Saying "we are the only ones who can defeat the X" would probably just sound like some cocky horseshit to someone like Loghain especially considering his low opinion of the order due to them, in his view, shirking their duties during the war against the Orlesians.

He didn't know that at the time. The point that people make is that you actually can learn more about Loghain's motivations and character if you recruit him. He isn't some power hungry dictator. He serves like a soldier once its clear that he has lost power and he is willing to sacrifice himself to save Ferelden.

The point people usually make is that he isn't a monster. The recent history of Fereldan is that the kingdom was conquered and then fought for independence from a neighboring kingdom (the Orlesians) and it was a bad war with raping and pillaging suffered by the people of fereldan.

He hates Orlais with a passion and thinks that the king's weakness will lead to the kingdom being conquered again.

Hell no. I would guess I have about $3,000 in fixed expenses at the moment between mortgage, HOA, insurance (health, car, home), utilities.

The mortgage and HOA alone are about $2,250.

Yep, see shorter guys all the time say they're 6+ ft when I'm 5'11. then those same people turn around and say that I'm really 6'1/6'2 or some other bs. Makes me think if everyone else measure their height with their shoes on since that's the only way their listed height would make any sense.

I do the opposite. I'm 6'1" and when other dudes tell me they are 6 feet tall when they are clearly several inches shorter than me I tell them I'm 5'11"which usually leads to some sort of panic/existential crisis.

Soul Calibur 6 is actually known for having 'last gen graphics' but even ps3'ish graphics are way ahead of Dreamcast.

I'd agree that Soul Calibur along with Sonic Adventure and a few other launch games for Dreamcast at the time had jaw dropping graphics its a bit silly to compare them to newer games.

Soul Calibur looks dramatically worse side by side than it's own sequels along with an endless number of games from more recently with all sorts of art styles.

Not sure it crept up on me honestly. For a long while (more than 5 years) I was doing a 5-6 a night then I realized I was doing more like 7 then 8 then on monday morning I realized I had gone through a 30 pack of selzers in about 3 days then I just decided not to pick up another case after work.
