Honestly I like when genre-mashed games execute their concept.

Some facets of the game, of which some feel inspired by other games:

• Roguelikes - every run takes place in a new alternate reality. Intel gathered from killing enemies in other realities is used to purchase upgrades/new party members to choose from default. Adversaries (marked bosses on the map) that you fail to kill will be waiting for you on your next run, as the evil empire youre fighting against probably sees them as valuable assets for living against the Star Renegades.
• Turn-based combat, with the interesting caveat that each turn takes place over 60 seconds and most attacks have a base speed and delay time on the enemy hit by them - if you knock them past 60 seconds they dont get to take their turn, and if you act before them it is a guaranteed crit (and vice versa). Not really sure which game inspired this but Im sure it has been done before. Health lost stays persistent through the map, but shields recharge after battle. Theres also a front and back line for your and the enemy parties. The game has 15 total party members to choose from (with 4 more listed in the future on the roadmap) each with their own sort of role they fit in - theres tanks, damage dealers, supports, disablers, and more.
• Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor - Adversaries that wipe out your party get promoted, and end up on a future planet with a level increase to match it. I have seen an Adversary I killed on a previous run get brought back to life. Also, the ultimate Nemesis - One of the heroes you win the game with gets killed in the next reality you go to save, and an evil clone of theirs is the final boss of all subsequent runs until they are killed - after which you can use them in a party again and one of the triumphant heroes of that run becomes the next Overseer.
• Pre-planning the map, as seen in strategy games. There are 9 total tiles you can breach into on a map, each of which usually has an encounter, and a building/chest that offers you a reward (for example, theres 2 different buildings that can increase the max shields/armor of a character - most useful for the tanks). I always try to route through the Adversaries and the enemies that open the sidequest dungeons on each map, for maximum resource gain.
• Camping is reminiscent of both Darkest Dungeon and Fire Emblem. You get camping buffs you get to spend time points on, and you can use these buffs to also build affection between your party members - giving them access to shared passive buffs in battle, combo attacks, and even children (called progeny in this game, which are more like future heroes inspired by the pair) that can be unlocked for future runs.

I still salty about the Reddit mods that removed my post on the Overwatch sub about hitting 1000 lootboxes. They said it was boring, repetitive content. The constant stream of Dva bombs and Genji blades are A-ok though.

They did the same to me when shared a video of when I joined a game as it was ending and the enemy team was t-posing in their victory screen

That subreddit is honestly even staler than the game is though so where is the real quality control there?

So yeah, I did look into this more because I hadnt followed this after the initial fallout of the whole thing.

Nairo was accepted back into the community because it came out that he was raped and gaslit about it. Comparing ZeRos situation to it is hilariously disingenuous. He literally admits to to soliciting child porn and is lucky hes never had to stand in front of a judge for this. That fact has never stopped him from trying to control and manipulate the narrative though.

personally, I liked everything about Civ 4 but the combat.

say what you want about Civ 5, but giving cities a defensive ability was a huge leap forward. because in Civ 4, half your army needed to defend cities while the other half was attacking them. I can't tell you how many times I went out to do battle with an army, then they just walk past me and capture my city. I guess you can say "well you should have been paying more attention" but it's still stupid.

anyway I don't know if this answers your question but I wanted to rant about the supposedly "best" Civ game for a minute.

Unit stacking was also dumb as well. Im glad 5 did away with it

I'm enjoying the gameplay so far. So many new guns that are tough to get used to, but it seems like a really nice weapon sandbox. More than three BTB maps would have been nice though, but I guess it's going to be like Halo 5 with a somewhat barebones launch.

The progression system is hot garbage and I'd prefer if there was none of this Battle Pass nonsense. Seems like a way to needlessly complicate games these days. I guess that's the trade-off for it being free though. It's certainly rather lame seeing every player wearing the same armor at the moment.

The battle passes arent timed at least. You keep them forever and can work on which ever one you want whenever you want

They may attract people to your platform, but you also lose all the revenue from additional sales you'd get on other platforms. The Elder Scrolls are one of the best-selling series out there. There's no doubt they would be giving up a huge amount of money if they made it exclusive. It's a bad gamble to think you'd make up for that in console sales for a series like that. Most exclusives tend to be original properties where it's easier to make that decision and you don't risk upsetting an existing fanbase. But even then, you can get most of the benefits from both by just doing a temporary deal, and platform exclusives in general are becoming less common outside of Nintendo. Sony made the decision recently to port one of their exclusive titles, Horizon Zero Dawn, to PC, and they put out a report showing that the port brought in way more money than it cost to port it. Whether Playstation sales saw any reduction as a result is difficult to estimate, and most executives aren't going to favor that incalculable hypothetical benefit over the proven profit of multi-platform sales. Sony probably would port games to the Switch (maybe they already do, for all I know) if it's a style of game that fits the hardware specs.
