The first round is always seeded so that popular characters face popular characters (Waluigi v Aerith), and characters of much lower popularity face characters of similar popularity (Aloy v D.Va).

Hey, wow, this is the opposite of the usual accusation that it's "rigged" to make smaller characters always fight the big names in round 1.
