I'm pretty sure it's a cookie thing, because after voting last night, if I switch accounts (on this same computer) it still shows the "Thanks for voting" banner instead of showing the matches again.

It's a small deterrent against people at least attempting to cheat, as opposed to the old days when the poll would be actively sitting on the home page for the full day.

I have Sans beating Bayonetta to face Geralt. It's a bit scary because of Geralt's unknown status, but I can see him plateauing and losing to Sans, which then means that Sans made it through 4 rounds without the assistance of a rally. Somehow I feel like I'd give Ryu H better odds than Geralt for beating Sans, but this goes back to the earlier round where nobody can say whether RH would beat Geralt to get there.

Bayonetta has seen her second game, and her first game ported to practically every system, and the announcement of her third game. Not speaking to how much overall strength she has, but her Smash boost should be negligible compared to her natural series boost.

This poll really depends on how you define "naming after" a character. What if you pick a name that you like, and you are aware that it exists as a character, but that did not influence your decision on the name? You can't really intentionally avoid using character names. There are probably hundreds of thousands of characters and nearly every semi-common name has been used for a character at some point.

If nothing else, they'd be too lazy to make an account but they'll still vote with their single unregistered vote, just like a normal rally. "Backfire" implies people coming over to vote for Wario/against Monika, which isn't going to happen.

I've been saying since the bracket came out that Monika was my most feared rally. This is enough to make me change my bracket. Monika > Wario for sure, and then I'll have to go reconsider the later ones.

Sure it's early, but if they care enough to link it before the contest even starts, then they'll be pushing even harder once the matches come up.

On a more serious note, this match truly did suck. 67000 votes is a horribly low voter turnout, and it was blatantly obvious that Tetris wasn't going to do squat against Zelda 1 in the next round because of this.

Pokemon Trainers had a disproportionate boost in Rivalry Rumble because they're literally labeled as "rivals" in the game itself. That's why they seemed overly strong and pretty much everyone else performed as expected from the individual characters.

I've been thinking of it. Not that it's finalized but that's how I picked it in my first runthrough of my bracket.

I'm also kind of worried that if Kirby wins, this could be one of those weird ones where the rematch flips. Crono has a reputation as an elite character here, so if he loses, I could see people pushing harder for him the second time.

I don't see why making stars cheaper/more plentiful is a flaw. It's just a stylistic change over the previous games. Sure your numbers of collected stars will be higher than you're used to seeing in older games, so what?

I've been watching a few people I know play it. I don't have a Switch yet, and as such I've followed literally nothing about the game until the day it came out, so I went in with 0 prior knowledge.

The board mode is legit back to basics. The ally system really spices up the core gameplay without completely changing it, as do the character dice blocks. It is cool that they also included the "free roaming" board mode from the 3DS versions along with the classic board mode, even though I know that the classic mode is way more popular. This may be the first Mario Party game that feels like it has multiple different "main modes", as opposed to the board game being the main mode and a bunch of tiny side modes. Some of the minigames look like they're not completely boring for the first time since the Gamecube, which is important since they're back to being played after every round (unlike the past few games).

In short I'm impressed, and this is from the perspective of me forming my own opinions from watching gameplay, not from reading what some random on the internet tells me to think.
