In her wikipedia page, "Tifa was designed by Tetsuya Nomura and was not present in early versions of Final Fantasy VII, as initially, the game was to have only three playable characters; the protagonist Cloud Strife, Aerith Gainsborough and Barret Wallace." Cloud was always slated to be the protag, it seems. Tifa was just made up later to balance out with Aerith. Of course, the significance being that she's trying to be snarky on purpose by using an English loanword in Japanese to appear more aloof, and that wouldn't work in English since "bye" is just a regular word to us. So they changed it to something that would sound snarky and aloof in English. An actual translator on the game came out and even explained this. Garfield and Emma's chemistry (and performances in general) is just so stellar that it's a shame they were saddled with less than stellar movies. And I'm just glad that thanks to NWH, people are finally realizing how Andrew was like the perfect live-action Spidey. Though part of it depends on how much you love tedious grindy stuff, cuz the License Board kinda requires you do. Also, make sure you're always playing at 2x speed.
