you win on nightmare by cheating yourself to a higher level. the stats the fight are determined by your level (for no reason and you can't even grind then!) and on Nightmare you have to be like 15 levels higher than you probably are now. You cannot grind that high unless you like doing thousands for fights for 1 exp

some are, depends on the terms and contracts. example, i don't think there's any argument when it comes to Mega Man, Snake, Sonic, Belmont or any of the other 3rd parties - those are all very obvious licensed characters, trophies, tracks, etc. but there's plenty of first party tracks and arrangements because it's in-house at Nintendo, fully by Nintendo employees.

nah, there's a notable difference once you involve a third party who isn't working with the game. you can have a song completely unrelated brought in, you can have a song involving unrelated third parties brought in, and you can have a song that's made for the game (and isn't subject to copyright or whatever).

once you involve somebody else it's totally relevant in the conversation of licensed songs. the amount of involvement and the country will play a role in that, for Otherworld i'm not sure Bill Muir gets anything or is involved as Square seems to have no problem chucking that track anywhere it wants. Eyes on Me, there's a problem somewhere and it's probably Faye Wong specific. for something more removed but still relevant, Simple and Clean had Nomura directly get Utada to do and it would be a licensed track where Utada is credited for lyrics and composition. all are fair game when talking about this.

Eyes on Me is the classic example for this. despite it being composed by him, the version FF8 uses isn't always on the official albums because of - most likely - licensing issues with Faye Wong. it also released on her album prior to the game's release, even if it was explicitly meant for FF8.

ok but when people are colloquially talking about licensed songs, they are very much not talking about a song written for a game by a member of the sound team that merely had another band perform it, anymore than people would call anything Uematsu arranged for FF7R licensed

While I agree that I would get greater enjoyment out of reading about characters I know, part of the purpose of this project was to learn about properties that rwlh wasn't necessarily familiar with, and to dive deeper into these selections. The fact that the write-ups are as thorough as they are make them remain interesting, and in a roundabout way, they achieve the same feat for me in that I get bite-sized kernels of each of these IPs. In that regard, I find that the book characters are the most interesting.

Also just to clarify when I said Harris leaning right is not surprising because in two party systems elections are won from the centre: this is not a good thing and people absolutely should complain about it. My post was only ever to say that the issue is systemic not caused by individual bad candidates. To change it the system needs to change above all else.

The mention of FPTP is kind of interesting though as while FPTP is an awful system that creates a pseudo-democracy where only a minority of voters matter, Im not sure FPTP is actually the key culprit in two party systems. Hear me out here. America is a pure two party system with only two viable options in any election (as even independents caucus with a party), sure. However, other countries that use FPTP have multi-party representation. There are 14 parties in the British parliament (8 not counting Northern Ireland), 5 in the Canadian parliament, and a truly wild 38 in the Indian parliament (7 if you are sensible and group the alliances together lol). Now you will look at that and go ah, but those are countries with two dominant parties even though theyre not two party systems and you will be absolutely right! It just shows that other parties can still get a foothold even in FPTP. This years UK election is a great case study in how smaller parties used FPTP to their advantage.

Whats more is that lots of places with proportional systems can still have two party systems. Malta uses STV, only two parties are represented. Places like Germany and Ireland have proportional systems but at least until recently have been dominated by two parties. So you can get a two party system even without FPTP. So changing the system is a big step, but you also need to change the political culture to get away from the two party system and everything being done in the centre. Based on other countries that will likely take decades. So yeah FPTP should be gotten rid of but theres a lot more to it after that.
