I do prefer playing Phoenix as well I just disagree playing as a smart guy is inherently a problem. There are a lot of instances in fiction where it is done successfully and not all of them are told from the perspective of someone else.

(Even Sherlock Holmes isn't always through all forms of media-- watch BBC Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch if you want a good example of a portrayal of Sherlock that is definitely from the perspective of Sherlock himself)

I like the BBC Sherlock, but even then, the character plays it close to the vest and doesn't share his deductions with the audience until the moment of truth. So it's not necessarily Edgeworth being smart that's the problem. It's that you're privy to his inner monologue, and he's hard to believably stump.

This is a minor nitpick, to be clear. I think it manifests itself more in the assistant character being largely useless. What's Kay going to tell Edgeworth that he doesn't already know? It's why they should've just had Gumshoe be the assistant because the bar has already been set low for him.

I think they're both good with the right stories to tell and challenges within them.

I mean Sherlock Holmes, you know, people love that guy. Doctor Who. Batman. You can have super smart protagonists that people love just fine.

Edgeworth Investigations has pacing and supporting cast problems-- he's still fine there though. "Everything else" sounds about right.

Right, but Holmes stories are told from the perspective of Watson, not Holmes, for a reason.

I'm not saying I don't enjoy playing as Edgeworth, but I think playing as Phoenix is a more satisfying experience overall.

Also Sonic 2 should be here over Sonic 1. The only claim Sonic 1 has to being on Rushmore is being first, and I don't think it's enough in this case.

I know I made this argument for the Genesis Rushmore, too, but every 2-D Sonic game follows the template set by Sonic 2. There are no other Sonic games like the original.

Voting for Sonic 2006 is like voting for Donald Trump for Rushmore

Sure there's some comedic value to be found but let's be real they both suck

Needs no elaboration, but I'll give a little anyway. He has one of the most satisfying character arcs of any character in a game I've ever seen. Every step of his journey is believable and feels earned.

We seem to be in a recurring pattern of "Tenma meets new character(s), they learn he's a murder suspect, but by the end, they're convinced he's innocent."

I agree the first AAI game makes Gumshoe look bad, but I think they actually do a good job making him look like a competent detective in AAI2. He even finally gets a raise at the end!

They do make him a bit too dumb after the first game, but he's still funny and charming in the other OT games, so I don't mind it that much.

I agree! I like Gabranth, but I don't have the bandwidth for an FFXII redemption project.

He's the perfect lovable oaf in the OT. I think AJ and AAI1 did him a disservice, but he's pretty good in AAI2, at least.

I imagine we'll see him in AA7 if it ever happens, but who knows!

2nd from the bottom is Gabranth and I don't see him improving his STATS anytime soon

Zack is such a big deal in Rebirth that the game literally gives you the option to skip all of his content in NG+

I'm kinda surprised I'm the only vote for 2-3. It's by far her most active case in the series. The AAI games and the post-timeskip games should have taken note of it because the assistants tend to be so passive in investigations and let the lead characters do all the talking to witnesses and stuff like that.

Maybe he's just ranking them based on gameplay

Can't let Seifer get hard booted in the opening round, at least!

FFIX is notoriously slow because every single attack has a custom animation, and you have a 30 second intro to every battle (or it feels like it, at least), to boot. The fast forward button does some heavy lifting for that game.

Also wow that character ranking might actually improve if you completely reverse it
