No, they moved because of cost of living, amenities, and (to a much lesser extent) career opportunities, none of which are related to social media. We're more of a darling for traditional media who does those top 10 lists about best city to move to.

I was there a few months ago and this had a like 75% success rate. I would definitely recommend buying a physical metrocard as a tourist to avoid any issues. Also, always use google maps for subways, since it tells you time-specific routes and maintenance detours, which the street signs do not.

Around Times Square I do think getting Halal Guys at their original spot on 53rd is totally worth it. It still hits.

Most of my fav Manhattan places are in lower east side, including Chinatown. Mei Lai Wah, Scarr's, Ivan Ramen. There's so much stuff though, just get something nearby, no need to go out of your way. For bagels I kinda prefer the chains like Tompkins and Brooklyn Bagel but again, get whatever's closest. Delis like Katz's and Russ & Daughters are super overrated but I guess you gotta try them.

Brooklyn and Queens have my fav places, but it's so spread out so it's hard to recommend. Wonderville is an indie arcade with a bunch of cabinets and at any given time is filled with gamedevs. That area has great clubs and such too. Prospect Park and the botanical garden are always great (though I've never been to Central Park, that seems like the one to visit instead).

Also I'm pretty sure you can just speak Spanish by default and it will work with most people.

City Owned Grocery stores would concern me, because they have mixed results. If someone can provide evidence of them being mostly successful I'd change my mind. But I feel like that's going to be one that people use to cite the failures of socialism if it doesn't work out.

NYC is so rich that most socialist policies can work through sheer force of revenue. The biggest risk is that the policies work fine and then everyone wants to do it in their own town even though it will fail disastrously.

Rent freeze is so dumb, but apparently it's like the most important policy in NYC so he has to go for it. It's like putting a bandaid on a severed arm.

80% of our media is also left-wing, mostly owned by right-wing billionaires, and 100% of the media supports our wars. 100% of them support sending our teenagers to shoot at you and your neighbors (they honestly can't tell the difference between you), and then come home and commit suicide in their 30s or 40s. Since both the left and right agree on that, we must call it "fair and balanced".

Honestly though, you have every right to talk about the US or NYC. There's probably millions of New Yorkers who agree with what you said, and definitely millions of Americans who do.

If the idea is right/wrong, then it is right/wrong regardless of whether it came from a foreigner or not. There's some things that are impossible to understand from different cultures, but that's rare.

Why would Dems ever support it to begin with? It strictly only helps non-establishment candidates.

This should boost its implementation because 1) it's likely the first and loudest example of RCV that the average American has been exposed to and 2) it worked to get young people involved.

Yeah the Soleimani attack is a good analogy. I think Trump, Netanyahu, and Khamenei are 3 peas in an authoritarian pod, so they do actually understand how to "negotiate" with each other using missiles like this.

The difference with Soleimani though is they accidentally shot down a civilian plane, which stopped any further escalation out of sheer embarrassment. That's another similarity with Trump - embarrassment is the absolute worst outcome to them. So maybe there's a way to create some embarrassment in this situation too.

That seems pretty common in the military. But at the end of the day a job's a job. When I worked with AWS I had a bunch of socialist anti-corporate coworkers (I wasn't socialist but definitely anti-corp).

Completely unrelated: I ended up trying out my idea of not paying taxes, completely accidentally because my ACH failed and I didn't get notified until now. So they summed up all my fees and sent them to me. They even found my unpaid quarterly estimate fees from a few years ago. So however incompetent the new admin is, it's clear they are absolutely desperate for tax money. All of this came after I filed my return though, I wonder what would've happened if I didn't.
