Obviously such a vote would always fail given GOP control of the House, but the vote was 344-79. 128 Dems vote to table the resolution. (Technically this vote was not on impeachment itself but to table the resolution - i.e. send it to the shadow realm where it will never be seen again.)

States that Iran's stock of enriched uranium was not destroyed and that the centrifuges are largely "intact." It's believed that the damage to all three sites was mostly limited to above ground structures which were understandably destroyed but that the underground portions that were actually the core of it all were not.

The Senate was scheduled to have classified briefings on the assessment but those were cancelled and the all-Senate briefing was postponed. Mamdani has actually increased his lead this around against Cuomo since the early vote that was supposed to favor him, up to an 8.3% lead this round with almost 80% in, despite almost every prediction saying he had no chance of winning round 1 against Cuomo.

Round 2 should favor Mamdani even more, but it's not always super easy to predict ranked choice.

Gotta wonder if the nonstop Cuomo endorsements coming in from all the worst people and so many people on the right panicking about him may have actually been the best thing that could have ever happened to Mamdani.

Seeing a candidate like Mamdani find success is very encouraging to see. I hope it translates to the general election and I hope it further translates to positive, recognizable changes in NYC.

The last thing I want is for his platform to get stymied, undercut and watered down when it comes time for implementation.

I think the biggest takeaway tonight is that the Dem elites poured everything they could into defeating him and he still won easily while polling down by 20 points just a couple weeks.

Why would Dems ever support it to begin with? It strictly only helps non-establishment candidates.

This should boost its implementation because 1) it's likely the first and loudest example of RCV that the average American has been exposed to and 2) it worked to get young people involved.

I'll take anything over Cuomo so fine with me there. Fuck that guy.

As for Adams, he's Adams. Dude won last time around because of the democratic machine so when everything gets budgeted into that, maybe, but he's been so full of scandals that I'd imagine that's it for the race. Now the hope is that the next mayor won't suck. The bar is so low Bloomberg's third term was the last decent one we had and everyone hated that one.

I had been thinking that Mamdani could outperform the polls because the direction of travel was clearly in his direction. When you have that momentum and the last polls are done before polling day, it tends to continue and the further growth you have doesnt get captured by the polls.

Interesting too that Cuomos polling didnt move at all and was pretty much spot on for his final result. The people who supported him were always going to support him and there was no significant attempt to expand his base. Which allowed Mamdani to surge past him. Good example of how to campaign.

Hard to view this as anything other than deeply embarrassing for the Democratic establishment like Bill Clinton. They didnt need to weigh in at all, but they got involved anyway. Jumping on a sinking ship.

I mean, dudes running for mayor of NYC. Why do we really need to give a fuck about his foreign policy positions? Plenty of local issues to deal with in the largest US city. He runs for Congress, sure, but thats a separate issue.

Also, I think its bullshit that Cuomo (or anyone really) can lose the primary and then turn around and run in the general as an independent.

Honestly though, you have every right to talk about the US or NYC. There's probably millions of New Yorkers who agree with what you said, and definitely millions of Americans who do.

If the idea is right/wrong, then it is right/wrong regardless of whether it came from a foreigner or not. There's some things that are impossible to understand from different cultures, but that's rare.

I'm not so sure Cuomo runs in the general now - he got such a thorough ass-beating that it seems like wasted effort.

He ended up even being to late to register as an independent and went on to do a write in campaign for the election and actually won with only write in votes. Was kinda crazy.

i doubt money is an issue. Cuomo already had like 4x as much as any other candidate in the primary. Mike Bloomberg gave him $8 million already and could fund an independent campaign all by himself if he felt strongly enough (and he probably will - given Mamdanis plan to tax the rich)
