Edgy gamer designs features things like multicolored LEDs, sharp edges, complex logos, edgy product names, sci-fi fonts, clear plastics, etc.
'sensible designs' on the other hand are things you wouldn't think twice about if you spotted it in an office setting.

Canadian here. I visited by American friend and as I was taking my shoes off, he told me that it's okay to leave them on. Alright. Well, his carpet was absolutely filthy. It was completely matted down and there were dirt stains everywhere. I don't know how people can live like that. It sorta looked like this picture here from google images. The medication essentially reduced the size of all the pores on my face, after several months of treatment, I became acne free. No longer having bad breakouts on the tip and side of my nose or around my mouth. I do rarely get tiny single spots once in a blue moon, but they are completely unnoticeable and harmless. A side effect of all this is that my lips seem to be chapped more often, but I don't mind that at all, better than having acne.

Honestly, to me it's a racist trope that basically states that Asian characters are not allowed to have their natural black hair. This could be a reference to anime, but those characters have their entire hair dyed a bright colour. But this, the purple hair streak, it's a sign of poor character design.
