Nash has said in an interview that he gets health insurance coverage for being a part of the screen actor's guild and stars in a movie every few years or so as to maintain it. At least I think it's the screen actor's guild. It some union. |

Batman, Captain Marvel (Shazam), The Shadow, and Captain America fought original villains in their film serials. Strangely, the now-forgotten Spy Smasher was comic book accurate and featured The Mask as his adversary. Superman likewise fought an original villain in The Spider Lady before going up against Lex Luthor in the sequel. Captain Marvel was the first to make it into a film serial. Superman was the first to have a feature-length movie with Superman and the Mole Men. It was theatrically released, so it counts. I can't help but look back at the early silver screen portrayals of superheroes and feel there's a bit of overlap when it comes to movies based off of video games. It's too new to be fully respected by Hollywood, so writers and directors do whatever they feel like rather than trying to capture the spirit of the property in question. But that's for another topic. |

Some people like working for the scum of the Earth even if it places them in jeopardy - sometimes because it places them in jeopardy. It's like the people who smoke because it causes cancer. They think it makes them tough. They want to see if they can be one of the ones to survive. In the specific case of Vader's troops, they want to be a part of the fascist right arm of the Empire no matter the cost. History is full of people like that. |

This looks kinda... it looks like it would make a good courtroom drama and that's not what I think of when it comes to superheroes. I will say one positive though: Warner Bros. seems to be letting the filmmakers pursue their own artistic vision instead of telling them how Batman should be. It might not be my preferred Batman, but I like that the direction of the character seems to be in the hands of creative artists and not the suits. |

I can't imagine any place being more likely to hold onto physical rentals in the streaming era more than us. Bruce Wayne looks emo, the film appears to have a very grimdark aesthetic, and on the whole it looks like an R-rated drama that's ever so slightly trimmed down to reach a PG-13. I think the grimdark fad is as dead as the zombie movie fad. I think superheroes who take themselves too seriously are missing the point of superheroes. And I don't think Batman should ever be written in a manner to fully exclude his originally intended target audience: children. My fondest Batman memories are watching The Animated Series as a child. A generation or two before me, it would have been the SuperFriends or the Adam West series. A little after my time, there was that weird cartoon where Joker had dreadlocks and a monkey-like fighting stance. And there's that weird WWE crossover with John Cena. I haven't seen it, but I am curious who has the stronger plot armor between Bats and Cena. This film looks like it desperately wishes it came out during a time when a good movie was No Country for Old Men, the best show on TV was The Walking Dead, and The Wire was the show that you talked to your friends about around the office water cooler. It's not far enough in the past to be able to bring it back and make it new again. It just feels like it's chasing yesterday's trends. |

I'm super sleepy and I made some boneheaded mistakes on the energy level, snow level, and hanger level. That said, I still beat it on one continue. I might do another play-through just to get revenge on the random soldiers that managed to get to me on this play-through. |
