Wait what? I haven't heard this.

Announced at Disney's Investor Day presentation in December 2020, the animated Lightyear is officially described as being the "definitive origin story" of Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Chris Evans), the human space ranger who inspired the toy famously voiced by Tim Allen in the Toy Story feature films.

https://www.cbr.com/lightyear-director-toy-story-meta-premise/

EDIT: Actually, reading the link more, it suggests he's not a real astronaut. It sounds like it's a movie about a fake movie that inspired the toys.

But it was revealed beforehand anyway? I dunno, I guess if this was legitimately the reason then that's reasonable, but I'm not convinced it would look any different if they were doing it for completely cynical reasons.

Not officially, which is why they go the whole movie without saying her full name until the "Call me MJ" bit at the end.

Kenri posted...
Sure they can, just have a random one-liner about it and it's fine. You can get away with two characters coincidentally having the same nickname in a way that you can't get away with two characters coincidentally having the exact same full name.

Nah, not in this case. "MJ" is so ingrained as Peter's love interest that it doesn't work, unless the point is that he's picking between them as said love interest, but in comics/comic movies, that usually results in one dying or turning evil, anyway, which doesn't seem appropriate here. Them specifically having her go by MJ was an intentional act to show she was filling that role.

If she's meant to be the exact same character as Mary Jane why not just keep that name? "Michelle Jones" strikes me as a pretty obvious way of hedging your bets, so if the audience reacts poorly you can bring in the "real" Mary Jane later. Regardless of the weird way this argument went I'm pretty sympathetic to Lasa's original position (and I agree with Dels' last post too; this style of headline is super common and very, very tabloidy)

Eh, if they were hedging their bets, they wouldn't have had her go by "MJ," since now you can't have another "MJ" without killing one off. Like Biscuit said, I think they just did it because it's the MCU and they want to try to be clever about everything.

I mean, if you want the technicality that she's not quite literally "Mary Jane," okay. But they've made it clear she's the "Mary Jane" stand-in for this version of Spiderman in the MCU. There's not going to be a "Mary Jane" because this "MJ" was created to take her place.

She's not literally Mary Jane, but she takes the Mary Jane character spot directly.

So if you want to argue "That means saying she's playing Mary Jane is inaccurate," you're technically right. But she's basically playing the essence/role of Mary Jane.

"...Were they, though?"
"Yes."
"But they weren't."
"Yes they were."
"They weren't, though, here's proof."
"No but they were."

And it turned into the "comic book nerd rage" argument.

Well the comparison isnt really fair, because Sims has three tiers of expansions with different price points.

$20 Stuff packs - more chairs and clothes
$30 Game Packs - A new gameplay feature like new skills and their related career, plus some chairs and clothes related to it.
$40 Expansion packs - Multiple new gameplay features, multiple sets of chairs and clothes, and usually new world/neighborhood themed around that stuff.

While this is true, there are wide varieties in the Expansion passes, too. Some are great and add a lot of new gameplay, and some are "The same stuff you can already do but it's in an area that looks different."

Comparatively, the AC DLC is basically Expansion pass level, but for $15 cheaper. Or $5 more than "more chairs and clothes."

Either way, I didn't mean for this to turn into bashing/defending Sims. It just seems kinda silly to compare the two, especially when you consider this is one DLC pack for AC which was formerly a $40 game, vs. hundreds of dollars of DLC for Sims and most of it being the "more chairs" type.

The reason I ask is it looks like you could achieve what you're looking for with some simple flex. Put the entire thing (body elements and footer) in a div with flex-direction: column, then the inner parts that you want in-line above the footer in a div with flex-direction: row. This basically breaks it down into two elements: Your "body" and your footer, which the first div tells to stack, and then the div containing the "body" tells the stuff to be in a row.

Flex is much more versatile in general, so if you don't HAVE to use a grid, I'd suggest not to, as that's what appears to be breaking things, though I can't tell where, at a glance.

EDIT: I guess you'd actually probably want to have three elements in the "column," header/body/footer, but it depends how you actually have things laid out, which is tough to tell without actually seeing it.

lol the base cost of their full expansion packs is higher, at $40, but they go on sale literally all the time and have a ton of new gameplay

I'd heavily argue this.

Most of the expansion packs offer "new gameplay" in the form of "go to X place and do the stuff you can already do, except with maybe one or two new animations."

They're alright if you're a super avid Sims player, but I think saying "a ton of new gameplay" is being waaaaay too generous for a good 80-90% of the packs. Very few expansion packs offer something unique.

And that's specifically only the expansion packs. The other packs they offer don't give any new gameplay whatsoever.

"DeflateGate" is such a minor, inconsequential thing and it kind of highlights how people were just so desperate to "gotcha!" Brady on something that happens literally all over the league and has forever.

I'm far from a Brady fan. I just think it actually actively hurts an argument to use DeflateGate as a major reason against him being one of the greatest, because it's an argument that ultimately defeats itself.
