Just to get ahead of the ball here, Lois Lane was black once, and that did not change my opinion as to the legitimacy of her being Lois Lane. The key ingredient is being a tenacious journalist. can I just say that I think Zendaya is actually playing a new MJ meant to evoke memories of multiple of peter parker's girlfriends and not just "mary jane watson?" I would argue that she's meant to embody the smarts of carlie cooper and michele gonzales, who had been recently introduced in the comics. which isn't to say that they're going to introduce a "real redhead MJ" in the future or anything, just that this is actually more like a new character than just a race-swapped MJ.

yeah, like i said, i forgot about the "call me MJ" scene, but i personally took that as just a nod to the comics. i didn't take that moment to be a big reveal where we were supposed to go "ahhh, now i get it! she's mary jane in these movies!"

as for the "even STAN LEE said she's mary jane!" thing that a lot of people apparently thought was a slam dunk that completely destroyed my argument in the baldwin topic, it seemed like he was just asked for commentary on the wrap article and he responded with "oh if zendaya is playing mary jane, i think that's cool"? it didn't seem like he had inside information on who all the actors in homecoming were playing. also, i know we all love stan lee, but he got shit wrong too sometimes. go look up how he took credit for stuff jack kirby did at marvel for decades or the hilarious alan moore video where he explains how lee said he created captain america when the character was actually created by joe simon and kirby - lee wasn't even working at marvel/atlas yet at the time.

i can see both sides, though. not going to say you're objectively wrong if you say "i think zendaya is mary jane," it's just a different perspective.

I mean, if you want the technicality that she's not quite literally "Mary Jane," okay. But they've made it clear she's the "Mary Jane" stand-in for this version of Spiderman in the MCU. There's not going to be a "Mary Jane" because this "MJ" was created to take her place.

She's not literally Mary Jane, but she takes the Mary Jane character spot directly.

So if you want to argue "That means saying she's playing Mary Jane is inaccurate," you're technically right. But she's basically playing the essence/role of Mary Jane.

Lasa has displayed a distinct inability to step back during disagreements and question if he's right or not, to stop himself from just blindly arguing that he must have been right now matter how many arguments against him there are or how clear it is that literally everybody watching how offbase he is. Every single person that steps in and comments gets a nitpicky argument from Lasa that doesn't really mean anything but Lasa believes it wins him the argument.

even now, I don't think he believes anything about his actions in that topic were wrong, he's just finally been convinced that his original argument was wrong and has ceded that point. i dont think he regrets the way he acted and will do it again the next time a vaguely similar event occurs.

I understand Lasa doesn't feel good about being called out- but sometimes when you are being very hard headed and unable to hear anything outside your own perspective, you need calling out.
