The reception to the gameplay seems pretty dang positive all around.
but the reception to the battlepass / rate of progression is super negative. Hopefully they make some changes there. It feels so slow.

I never thought about that before, so I looked it up to be sure. The answer is mostly no.

shielded enemies dont take extra damage from headshots, but if the damage from a head shot would drain their whole shield + do more damage, the headshot kills them. So sniper rifle headshots are lethal regardless of shields, and battle rifle bursts can potentially finish off a shield + do a headshot. Three bursts should kill a full shield enemy if the last burst hits their head.

yeah, I think so. And theres a standard FPS sprint + climbing up ledges to make it a bit more mobile than classic Halo.
And theres something like armor abilities, but theyre limited use instead of just on a cooldown like in Reach. One of them is a cool repulsor that can knock back enemies and deflect back grenades (and maybe rockets? Not sure yet))

other little things:

shotgun feels worse. Doesnt just one shot blast fools anymore, but I think it fires faster / has a bit more range to try to make up for that.

plasma pistol no longer EMPs vehicles, but there are new shock weapons that can do it.

theres an updated plasma carbine that seems like an attempt to merge the old carbine and the plasma rifle, which is totally removed

pistol seems ok? Not the best its ever been, but not bad I guess.

it feels like Im playing Halo, so good. Im punching dudes and throwing grenades around, having a great time.

I dont have a great memory for the specific gameplay differences of the various games, but at least superficially its reminding me of Halo 3 because they brought Brute stuff back. And Im into it, because the Chopper is super cool.

N64 theoretically has a fantastic library to subscribe to if they actually gave you a substantial collection.
Its full of games that are fun for like half an hour once every couple years, so you dont want to actually buy them outright for $10 like they used to charge on the VC.

but the stuff theyre offering now is mostly the stuff I would rather just pay $10 outright for and not worry about being subscribed to another thing. Just let me purchase Ocarina from you, you turds.

finished Terra and Ive been blazing through Ventus now. the game really moves fast when you know what youre doing

i enjoy that you can sort of sequence break to get to some treasure chests youre probably not supposed to by using quick dash in the air. I got Super Glide and dont have normal glide yet.

also used my advanced melding knowledge to get EXP walker as quickly as possible this time so Im like comically overleveled. good stuff.

when I was trying to figure out whether or not to do Critical mode I think I saw someone claim the hardest part might be the beginning of Aquas story. Id hate to finish 2/3 on Critical and run into an unbeatable wall, so I decided to start there.

and it went fine. I just grinded a little early on and had like no problem.

finished Aquas story first and shes alright. I enjoyed playing as her at least. The combat system in this game is pretty neat.

oh and the concept of a x-blade (pronounced exactly the same as keyblade) is so fucking dumb. Between that and the various Ansems and stuff its like Nomura just wants to make conversations confusing.

I actually feel bad for Nicktoons, since that was some low budget cash grab that the devs obviously put as much into as they could with what they had, meanwhile if this is real I would assume it's going to be an actually fully backed major release and will likely eat it's lunch.

I dunno, I feel like this select screen doesnt look any more budgeted than Nicktoons and the broad WB branding feels even more cash grabby to me.
