This. I get lost in my own head and start pondering things that are just generally more interesting to me at the time than most conversation. Id rather smoke alone than at a party or with friends.

Why the downgrade?

My political beliefs would have a very isolating effect if I were to shun everyone who felt differently. Still, its poor intellectual practice to just dismiss people with whom you dont agree, regardless of the strength of your convictions.

I will refrain from commenting on this being a left wing thing because pointing out commonalities between the rival factions is usually dismissed on CE as bOtH sIdEs.

So with regard to the noisy progressives, it does seem like the loudest online are usually contributing nothing of value to the real world (so far as improving society is concerned at least; Im sure theyre good friends and good parents). At least the ones I know personally. They have no idea how change works, so they fancy themselves activists for arguing online and not shopping at conservative business. This is not activism, of course, but they do it because it feels good and it requires no sacrifice. The same could be said of the tip jar warriors. Theyll chide others for not tipping enough, but they wont put forth the effort required to make meaningful change, like requiring employers to pay a full salary. Why? Because its easier to throw extra money at a problem than it is to organize in the real world, which requires time and effort that most people would rather spend on personal enjoyment. Anything than an occasional trip to the ballot box is too much work. I dont blame them though. Its very easy to feel insignificant and helpless. Many people want to do something to help, but they dont know what to do.

But thats not the whole story and maybe shouldnt be your focus. For all the sententious ones online, there are plenty out there working together to achieve a common goal.

Its nonfiction, but Ive been wanting to read Dog is Love. The author makes the case that our dogs do, in fact, love us and attempts to provide scientific evidence to demonstrate it.

Slackware seems like itd be a lot of work, even compared to something like Arch. Its been a long time since Ive used linux though, so that might not be true anymore.

TC, look into pu-erh. Its dark and malty and has a more coffee like mouthfeel than youll get from standard black teas, let alone whites, greens, or oolongs, all of which are more delicate. I usually source from local Asian grocery stores when possible. Otherwise Yunnan Sourcing will work. If you find a website that offers a sampler, Id try that. It can vary in taste, some being velvety smooth and some being so earthy as to almost taste like drinking dirt (honestly its not bad, just oddly familiar).

Its always amusing to watch the punch Nazis crowd go off. Very often the people who advocate for such barbarism are of the sort where their punch probably isnt going to hurt much anyway. They seem to see themselves as the second coming of Pattons army, fighting off the genocidal scourge taking over the continent.

But obviously there isnt any rational justification for walking up to someone expressing some evil view and slugging them for it (the burden of proof, by the way, is on those who would argue otherwise). It would probably satisfy some primitive instinct, I suppose, but I doubt its likely to change anyones mind, in which case its no more than violence for its own sake. No one who isnt pathological would argue that violence is inherently good.

I think people who want to silence ugly ideas with force are just lazy. Rather than put forth the effort to change minds, they just want to chase off the bad guys so they dont have to think about it anymore. I think thats likely to hinder progress.

I cant tell who is being sarcastic in response to this and who is not because I dont know what the fuck shes doing.
