I'm trying to ween myself off coffee. I don't have much experience with tea besides milk tea (of the roasted variety) but I wanna try others. Problem is I'm not a big fan of bitter so regular tea isn't my favorite. And I'd like something that comes all as is and I don't have to add sugar and honey or whatever.

Any tea expert opinions are welcome

I really don't do caffeine anymore, but ya, I used to take either of those on camping trips.

Its specifically bergamot, if you know what that smells like. Its more floral/perfumey than a lemon or orange, idk how else to describe it

Hm I see

My only experience with it was in high school when a buncha friends and I went to a boba spot. Someone had ordered an earl grey milk tea or something but left or they made an extra. So they asked one of us if we'd like it for free and my friend claimed it. They said it tasted like fruity pebbles so I was like wtf <__<

Omg i dont think it should taste like fruity pebbles... honestly just go to a coffee shop and order a cup of it to see if you like it. If you don't want to commit to buying a bunch of bags

You shouldn't be drinking Earl Grey with milk, you can place a slice of lemon in your earl grey, but never diary, or non-diary alternative such as oat, coconut, soya, etc.... Only a slice of lemon.

I love it, but I have to switch between Earl Grey and others so the flavour profile doesn't lose its potency.

Oh yeah I wasn't gonna put milk. I was just saying that the only real positive experience I've had with tea are the different milk teas lol

Bergamot oil. The fruit itself is a citrus fruit about the size of an orange but limier in complexion. It's very fragrant, so the oil is used for lots of different things.
The fruit itself sounds pretty terrible though: it's almost as sour as a lemon, and bitterer than grapefruit.

I love the scene where a maid brings him tea after he requests Earl Grey tea and he takes a sip, makes a face, and goes, "Are you sure this is Earl Grey?
"Why yes, of course."
"Because I would swear it's Darjeeling!"
Darjeeling is good too, of course, though it's definitely much darker and more bitter. Even a novice tea drinker could easily tell the difference.

My personal favorite tea is lapsang souchong, a pine-smoked Chinese black tea, but you're probably not going to find that in a bag. Loose leaf tea requires a bunch of paraphernalia to make, so it's not something you should start with.

TC, look into pu-erh. Its dark and malty and has a more coffee like mouthfeel than youll get from standard black teas, let alone whites, greens, or oolongs, all of which are more delicate. I usually source from local Asian grocery stores when possible. Otherwise Yunnan Sourcing will work. If you find a website that offers a sampler, Id try that. It can vary in taste, some being velvety smooth and some being so earthy as to almost taste like drinking dirt (honestly its not bad, just oddly familiar).

Really its less tastes like dirt and more like tastes like dirt smells. Its not unappealing, but youll know exactly what I mean if you experience it.

Numis Emperors Pu-Erh is a good starting point and can sometimes be found in grocery stores.
