I used to use Firefox, but Brave became my preferred browser a while back. The built-in ad blocking is really nice and being able to earn a little BAT is a nice perk.

I only use it on certain sites.

Take IGN for example. I don't go there much anymore but they did something that prevents normal adblockers from working properly. Brave is the only thing that works for me there.

One of their biggest points is, "the vaccine doesn't stop you from getting it". Then they refute statistics that say tons more unvaccinated people are dying than vaccinated. Or it just gets silent real fast.

Yep, everyone ages differently. Someone guessed I was 24 the other day and I'm way older than that.

So many people are hung up on age though. You see it in dating apps a lot; a specific age range people want. When I didn't put my age in an app I was getting contacted by a lot of younger people. Never met any of them, it was just for fun mostly.

I remember opening up presents as a kid and asked why there's a Toys R Us price tag on them. My mom said Santa sometimes shops there. Deep down I knew the truth. And I became a huge liar in grade school. I figured if it's ok for my parents to lie then it must be normal.

I'm fine with it if it lowers the cost of food. Paying people a living wage is making things too expensive. Every time I go to McDonald's the meal comes to over $8. Even at the grocery store the prices have skyrocketed recently. I mean it's nice that most people make well over minimum wage now but my wage hasn't gone up with theirs and I'm paying more for everything.

I seen a video of her girl holding her mixed kid in her arms while yelling at the dad and calling him the N word. I try not to hate people. But holy fuck, some make it impossible. It's like you could just immediately envision the battle that that kid is gonna face growing up trying not to hate itself because of it's fucked up environment. I hope the kid realizes it's mom's a piece of shit early on instead.

I gave people stuff that I would use. It became impossible because my parents hate everything. And no I wouldn't have the balls to give someone their gift back. But that's what led to stopping presents so I'm glad she did.

I used to hang out with a white girl who had a black kid. I figured there's no way she could be racist. Then she started making jokes about black people and I was like, do you do this around your son?

this is why i hate the tradition of "buy everyone you know something. it doesnt matter what it is, just buy something". just imagine how much shit ends up in landfills at the beginning of January. or just over the course of the year as people clean out and discard unwanted crap. imagine how much less waste we'd have if we just stopped this tradition.

I never really thought about the amount of garbage it produces. Not just the items themselves but packaging, gift wrap, shipping materials, etc. When we were exchanging gifts there were always 2 large garbage bags full of disposable things, then my brother and I would leave with 2 large bags full of stuff knowing we wouldn't use most of it.

I still buy them for my parents and siblings, but I could live without the gift exchange. It's more about seeing everyone anyway.

Yeah that's what we decided. We usually have seafood at Christmas now and it's just the immediate family. All my cousins are married and do things with their families/in-laws or whatever. Not sure what they do. After my grandparents died it's like everyone branched off for the holidays.

I was in the same situation. My parents got me so much random stuff every year that I had nowhere to put it. I literally had bags of stuff piling up in the living room to the point where I had to throw most of it away. Probably could have donated it but just wanted it gone.

Why would it be creepy? A lot of women are into older guys. I've had chicks with a bigger age gap than 9 years hit on me. And also much older.

My family already has everything they want. Gifts came down to the point of guessing what they may like. And I hated pretty much everything I got except the shoes.

Mom would buy me clothes that didn't fit every year then be like "take them back" and I never go to those stores. I still have the last jacket she bought that must have been made for an ape with super long arms. She got the tall fit clothes constantly and I told her no one wears bigass clothes anymore. That $100 didn't even cover all I spent on them. The entire cycle was pointless. Gift giving is pretty much for kids who can't buy their own stuff.

People are genuinely more afraid of the vaccine than covid. That's what I've been told by every unvaccinated person so far. The number of deaths from covid are meaningless to them. They don't understand it.

That said, my antivaxx dad got really quiet once he contracted covid. He didn't want to talk to anyone. Maybe towards the end he couldn't talk to anyone. I'm sure he was regretting his choice until the moment he died.

Not exchanging gifts seems like such a bleak fucking existence.

I found it to be stressful and awkward. First there's the thinking about what to get. Then they buying, Then sitting around watch each other open up things no one really wants.

After years and years of doing this it got really old. I think it was my mom who suggested stopping gifts after I got her this essential oil diffuser and she gave it back to me saying they're bad for you. Before that I got her an ice cream maker she never used. Just a fucking waste.

My family stopped doing the presents thing about 4 years ago. We decided it's a waste of money since we buy what we want anyway. If kids were involved I guess it would be different.

Did she not think any of her 50k viewers were fat?

good luck, law may look simple but the fact is that the law is decided by which party can throw more money at it, and i doubt you can pay for better lawyers.

you should shop around for another job in case, because lots of businesses love to find a reason to fire a worker trying to sue them. they'll say you've been 5 minutes late once and fire you for that.

Yeah I sort of feel like I'm done after this. I think I'm in the right but I didn't word things properly. I'll see what happens Monday.

I just emailed my attorney and asked his advice on the situation. There's no backing out at this point. It just had to be done.

It definitely sounds like you're in the right here, but without documented proof that you've worked or been on call for your lunch breaks, you may struggle to get anywhere in terms of past hours being paid back.

Going forward, every time you're told you have to either stay or do something during your lunch bang it in an email to whoever handles your hours, that way you have a paper trail to fall back on. The fact that you can now prove you've raised the issue with them means you should have a case for paid lunches from here on out, although you may have to right the last few years off if you don't have any proof you did it.

At my work I'm the only person who does my job role, so I often have to take calls or quickly pop to my desk during my lunch. I send an email every time, and because our pay is done in fifteen minute increments, even if the call only lasts two minutes I end up with a quarter of an hour's overtime pay for it.

I've thought about this for so long that I'm certain I'm in the right. As others said maybe I shouldn't have mentioned the lawyer part. But I've played this game with them before. I was always ignored. So that's why I threw that in there.

See, that is where you fucked up in the past. Don't train somebody for a position you were passed over for. Let them know you are obviously not qualified to do the job of a supervisor, so you should not be expected to train others for the position.

I really like my current supervisor. But when she was hired I was told by the person who said to take breaks in my office that I had to create accounts for her. Like all the accounts we order things from. And I'm still doing half her job for no more money.

I could have had them by the balls if I wanted. There was a point where only I had the power to order anything for the plant. But I didn't act on it.

I'm also still the backup supervisor at a $15 paygrade. Making more than that now after 5 years but that's still the paygrade. She makes me do half her job with no compensation.

I'm about done with this place. Monday will see some changes.

My mom tried to do the same thing when the the retirement center she was working at didnt have enough employees and nurses staffed there. She got wrote up on some minor bullshit and used it as an excuse to fire her.

That's a shame. People need to stand up and fight if they believe with reason that they're being done wrong at the workplace. That's how laws are made and enforced.

A company my size should know better. They throw away more product weekly than I make in a year. They won't be missing anything if I'm compensated.

I'm not sure how much more context you would need that I haven't described in detail with links and screenshots even.

I'll just give some background of me at work.

I was hired as a mechanic. The person in the parts room got injured so they stuck me up there, where I've been ever since. They took $1 out of my pay for going there.

Since then, when the supervisor would quit, I've been responsible for all purchasing. For keeping the place going. For buying parts, chemicals, ingredients, whatever. That was all on me. For making peanuts. To make sure they stay in business. Then I had to train my new supervisors because they wouldn't hire me for the position.

And all the while they've been fucking me out of 30 minutes of pay every single day. Would this not bother anyone else?

I highly doubt they'll take it that seriously.

And their lawyers can't rewrite the law. It's not complicated.

they're going to tell you that you need to note when you cant take time off to eat lunch on a case by case basis and that there will be no blanket decision on paid work lunches. they will let you declare you worked through lunch and pay you for it, but they'll get pissy if you do it every time and you'll get annoyed dealing with it and stop. they also get pissy if you set up a form letter and just change the date every day instead of wasting your time filling out the same damn thing every time.

you probably wont see back pay, and if the business is of any size you're going to lose your shirt if you try to sue them.

According to the Maryland department of labor website I'm entitled to backpay.

And yes they're a huge business. They've been buying up every major food company for years. But, they're not above the law. The law is simple in this case.

Oh, and my coworker who's been there 10 years longer than me said he's down for a class action lawsuit. He'll have my back on everything.

You fucked yourself by letting them know in the first place. If you were going to pursue legal action you should've talked to an attorney went to the labor board and filed an official complaint then consulted with all the other employees trying to be as low key as possible

Now they have time to plan ahead before you even get things rolling

Once you bring up attorneys and lawsuits theyre going to escalate it above the management of the site to the corporate office and it will be out of their hands to make any decisions.

Though if youre pursuing years of back pay, then your managers probably cant do that anyways.

I thought about this as well.

I hope they do escalate it.

Things like this are among the many grievances most employees are afraid to tackle. I mean if this grows into a huge thing it could be ground breaking. I'm in a position in life where I can afford it.

Make sure to actually forward it to your attorney if you sent it.

Also Maryland is an at-will state so make sure you havent been late or had anything else (even minor) that they can use as justification for firing you.

HR is gonna be up your ass, but I applaud you and hope it works out.

Oh I'm a model employee. I've only called out sick once in 2 years. Just got paid for my sick time I didn't use. They have nothing to throw against me.

I can't leave my area. I mean I "can", but if someone calls me on the radio I have to be there to keep things running.

So it's a working shift break like described on the Maryland labor website. I don't think they can deny me compensation for it. This has been eating away at me for too long. My 2 coworkers feel the same way but would never step up.

According to what I read, if an employee has a "working shift break" they are not to have lunch deducted from their paychecks.

It's been understood that we in the parts room have a working shift break. We are not able to leave the parts room to get lunch or just enjoy some time to ourselves. We're always expected to be in the parts room. Kathy Stewart even told Kevin and I that we need to eat lunch in the parts room. Which is in fact, a working shift break. To be paid.

So my question is, are we entitled to be paid for lunch and also back-pay for all the lunches that were deducted from us? Should we have something in writing that says we have to be in the parts room at all times even though it's "understood" that we have to be? Can we put a sign on the door saying the parts room is closed for 30 minutes?

As of now I feel as if our rights have been violated and we deserve to be compensated. I'd like to hear something by January 31st. I'll be forwarding this to my attorney and taking care of it myself otherwise. I enjoy working at B&G and sincerely like everyone here. But I also would like to be treated fairly. I've asked for things to change multiple times and never got a response.

Ah. I was under the impression that the movie was set during their I Love Lucy run.

Part of it was. It also has scenes before they were married and they got married at 23 and 29. So if you knew that beforehand it looked really off.
