Id like the option. I made a lot of friends at my job and wed often go to lunch or hang out and talk. I miss the social aspect of going to the office. I miss the face to face I used to have with my hiring teams. And if they werent getting back to me on items, I could easily walk into their office. Now all I can do is slack and wait. Its nice to get out of the house too. I feel like Ive been at home for the last 2 years and it gets exhausting.

Mine was a month after delivering my baby and my husband took me to a fancy Japanese place where I ordered the expensive af omakase. Had a difficult pregnancy where I could barely eat anything the entire time combined with not going out during the pandemic and things just finally were opening up. Best meal ever. One of the omakase courses was some wagyu beef. So delicious.

Pretty normal right now. The recruiting industry is exploding as all these tech companies want to hire like crazy. Weve never been in more demand. I get solicited with a job opportunity daily these days. 3 recruiters on my small team quit since I joined a few months ago. I actually took over some candidates that one of them was working with and she kinda ghosted a few. I had to smooth things over with them. It sucked.

If you just pan fried it then it wouldnt really soften much and youd end up with bitter crunchy eggplant. Better to bake it. You can still probably fry it but you would still need to bake it first to soften it.

Yeah I wasnt talking about SF particularly, just that its very possible someone bought a $70k house in 1988 that jumped to $900k now in that kind of market but its not the norm when looking at total US numbers.

The last year for housing has been bonkers though. I believe just 2021 saw around 20% median increase. And were on track for another 20% for 2022 according to some estimates. My current house estimate went up over $100k already and we just closed it in November (SoCal market). Low inventory and a rush to lock in rates before they climb is driving some kind of frenzy. Wfh is allowing tech people to buy up all the cheaper housing in full cash, locking out local families from owning. Its definitely a shit show.

A home not in the Bay Area in 1988 would have been more like $20k to $30k.

What is $20k x 11 ? $220k

So it seems you are infact incorrect. My parents home was a $30k home.

@Cleo_II
What am I incorrect about exactly? As I said, US median 1988 housing cost was $210k adjusted for inflation. At the time it was about $85-90k without so I dont know where youre pulling 20-30k.

Here is where I pulled the data: https://dqydj.com/historical-home-prices/

I agree that the cost of housing has gone up. But its closer to double than 11 times. I still think housing being twice as more expensive now is still a very significant increase. The market demands a two income household so a single parent buying a house is extremely difficult today.

The median price of homes in 1988 adjusted for inflation is around $210k. So yes prices of homes have nearly doubled since then. But not 11 times more. The OP depends entirely on the market. If that home was in the Bay Area before the tech boom there, then its a pretty unique kind of situation.

Also that salary adjusted for inflation is around $60k. You could still buy a house 3x that at $180k in a lot of markets just not in any of the urban centers or HCOL states.

Not to say wages havent stagnated or anything. Just being objective about the post.

Ive been extremely careful throughout the pandemic. Wear my mask. Order groceries. I only eat outdoors and wear a mask inside anywhere I go. Social distance from people. Wash my hands constantly.

I had what felt like very a mild cold for a few days. Just some slight congestion. But then I lost my sense of taste and smell on Tuesday. Went to get a PCR test and here it is. Positive. Today Ive had an absolutely horrendous headache. Other than that and some congestion, thats all Ive had for symptoms. Probably have the vaccine and booster to thank for that. No fever, cough or aches. Taste and smell came back already. But this headache is the pits.

Its either from a creepy drunk guy that randomly came up to my face while I was outside a week before my symptoms, or our new nanny who is in her mid 20s and probably goes out and stuff. My daughter had a mild fever and runny nose the day before my symptoms started. And she seems completely fine even though Ive been sick for a week. So part of me wonders if she had it as some point.

Im 57 and was 140 lbs before my kids. Now Im 122 lbs and maintain that weight without working out. However, I never eat out. I do not buy ready made foods ever. I only drink water or unsweetened tea.

My kids both have unusual allergies (tomatoes, potatoes and peppers) so it makes it easier to never cheat and order out. If I do and an allergen is in the food, Ill lose a night of sleep with them vomiting until its bile. They also have a dairy intolerance so I dont use cheese in my cooking, although at times I will use butter sparingly.

That being said Ive gotten good at making quick from scratch meals. Always have frozen vegetables that you can steam. I use rice over pasta (its low fodmap so it agrees with me better than pasta). You can get a rice cooker to make it even easier (a good Japanese one). Pan cooked chicken is easy - a little bit of olive oil, salt & pepper on the chicken, sear both sides and then cover and wait. I bake meatballs so after mixing and rolling them, its another put in the oven and wait thing. Slow cooked pork is also easy (I do make a gravy with the drippings so that is the most work intensive part). The pork i sear with some salt, pepper and rosemary and then put it in the crockpot fat side down with a couple tablespoons of cooking wine and water all day on low.

The hardest part is getting a few things down that you can make without a lot of effort.
Ugh managing all those allergies must be tough! Congrats on losing weight post kids. Its so hard.

Im pretty good at the cooking front and have been better at making quick and easy meals. My instant pot has been a life saver.
